Carousel...love it, or leave it?

I like the ride, i would never go in it but I enjoy that it takes people away that would add to a line for another ride. I just don't see the huge draw. it looks nice, but so does the one in freehold mall in Jersey only that one is two stories and a half hour away from me.

I also to be honest HATE that whole thing about "Cinderella favorite" horse. specifically because there is the one, and you therefore are setting up children to be disappointed by not rushing for it first. when it's stuff like that I think they shoul just try to make it uniform, what we see as nothing may mean everything to a little kid so it's a poor setup in my view

Maybe it harks back to Walt Disney when he took his little girls for a ride on the carousel and daddy sat on the park bench; an homage to a beginning (and not throwing the baby out with the bath water) when making his park.

It's a classic. It makes Fantasyland magical. It's Walt Disney. It's an original. I love it. How can you have a castle without a carousel ? So festive at night...love it!

The carousel isn't a personal attraction interest of mine on my trips but I understand why it's there. The carousel is a lot more symbolic than people think. It's not just a ride going around in circles with music playing. It's more than that. It's feelings of nostalgia and fun. It brings you back to the first time you were a small kid and your parent, uncle/aunt, grandfather/grandmother or some other adult figure in your life put on you on that horse and you did nothing but smile and laugh throughout the entire ride and you got to share those feelings with him or her. Now, if you're a parent with children, you are essentially returning the favor to your children because they get to experience what you experienced as a kid. There's also an element of fun of going around circles while going up and down that words really can't describe it. Plus I would think for many young children, the carousel is probably the first amusement park ride they ever experienced.

Been on it twice. Both times were because I was with a small child who wanted to ride and I stood near them to ensure they didn't fall. (I'm one of those hovering adults, lol.)

Disney could remove their carousel and I'd be fine with that.

If Uni removed theirs, I'd be up in arms. That thing is like art. It's amazing and I love it.

I've never ridden the one in WDW, but that may be because I live a 5 minute walk from a fabulous historical carousel.
I would never say they should get rid of it, though. The carousel music is so perfect for the Fantasyland atmosphere.

Great responses folks but let me clarify...love it or leave it just means "do you enjoy it or no?" I would not advocate it's removal but we just never seem to care to ride it so that would be "leaving" it by not riding.

I think some rides/attractions in WDW or historic and some are just old, my opinion is the carousel is historic and should always be in the park.
I don’t have any children but that doesn’t stop me from riding the carousel. Don’t even pretend that I have to take one of my nephews or nieces, I just ride it whether they want to or not. I may not ride it every vacation but I like knowing it’s there for everyone to enjoy.

We ride it. Although the last time we were there it was shut down because some guy had broken his nose on something, and they were investigating. It seemed rather odd to me. It was closed the rest of the day.:(

Aw!:( I think Disney's is a work of art too. In fact, I think ALL "carousels" ( not merry-go-rounds) are art.:) I just watched the musical this morning. " When you walk through a storm...."
There is one @ Trimpers rides on the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland inside. they also have a miniature one. That is definitely a work of art! It's quite old too.:D
