I blame Disney for lot of the mixed reviews concerning renovations because they should have done it over time through the years but instead they update everything at once and it feels like such drastic change. If management or whoever continuously changed and modernized some of the hotels and resorts it wouldn't seem like they got rid of all the theming or made it bland. I will say for the deluxe and moderate hotels it seems like they are mindful of certain touches that make them unique.

Let the merchandise be the show rather than it get lost in fancy displays.

Bingo.

I sure am glad I get to come here and read all the reasons I'm supposed to hate the new look of absolutely everything in WDW.

Either the theming is too bland because they didn't install huge plastic palm trees and neon colors in every guest area or they went too far by naming a restaurant after a cartoon crab. I can't decide which complaint is worse.

And...bingo.

The Banana Cabana was a favorite hangout of ours when it was just a hut. Now it’s awesome, and with food! I hope Mike is still there/back.

OPR had two prior pretty extensive renovations since opening.

The first was in the mid 90s. They got rid of the mannequins and scenes that adorned the upper level of the shops. ‘People’flying kites, planting in flower boxes, sitting in rockers. The store fronts were toned down in color and theme. A small beverage island was built. Names like Oriental Cargo and Cinnamon Bay Bakery were changed to OPR Pizza and Pasta Shop, and OPR Bakery.

Then in 2001 the Resort shut down and Captain’s Tavern was moved to Shutters, all new flooring installed, plus the addition of a centralized check out instead of purchasing at each shop.Beverage Island grew too. And a lot of the little nook and cranny rooms were opened up in favor of a large mess hall look.

This is now the 3rd major renovation, and by far the largest!

Jury will be out completely until we visit in December, but I am liking what I am seeing visually. A little concerned about the QS options (or non-foodie lack thereof), and no lunch has me o_O. But I can see where they made changes and it does look good. Can't wait to see it!

I feel like Landscape of Flavors (AoA) really achieved a nice balance of some unique offerings and special options for more adventurous eaters while maintaining some more plain/traditional options for those who want/need them. I hope Centertown Market can find that same middle ground.

We stayed there in 1990 and it was a mess of a resort, first stab at a moderate. Fixed at French Quarter and Dixie but repeated at Coronado. Unfortunately the fix to both don’t address the hellish frustrating walks to main building and main pool from many of the walks from guests lodging. The second fix is better than first stab but still is adequate to layout of POR or FQ Still the main building a nice improvement. I expect the same from Coronado, layout still being a problem kin both unless your in a $$$ preferred building

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.

I’m thinking Coronado will be fixed by the new bridges that will cut across Lago Dorado.

That being said, we pay for Preferred - Casitas 1, 2, or 3.
