Can't STAND it!!

I booked our August trip last December for the free dining promotion. At 180 days out, I made all our ADRs. Air is booked. Rental car is booked. Countdown is in the double digits. I'm suprising my kids (12,10), and I can't STAND keeping this secret any longer!! I feel like I'm going to EXPLODE! I have had so many near misses of just blurting it out!! 2010 was the first time in 10 years we didn't go. My 12 yr old begs me on a weekly basis to PLEASE take them to Disney. I keep telling her we still can't afford it--maybe next year. I suprised them a few years back, and I can't remember it being this hard to keep a secret. Is there a mental exercise I can do to keep myself from going crazy????? AHHHHHH!!!:veryconfu

How exciting! Just keep telling yourself that the looks on their faces is going to be worth not telling them. You can do it!!! Have fun:wave:

As exciting as the surprise will be I don't think it can make up for the months of excited antisapation that they are missing out on. The surprice makes a great video moment but i vote for tell them and let them build up the excitment just like you are.

Very jealous. We went Sept 2009, took a year off, then my sister decides to get married so there goes our Disney budget for this year. Right now we're looking at Ocober 2012, which will make over 3 years between trips. I don't think since 1983 when I started going I have EVER gone this long between trips.

Hang in there! I give you a lot of credit, I don't think we could pull it off. We will be there in August too and planned our dates back in October. I am with you on that countdown. At least it's double digits now! :sohappy:

Keep your secret as long as you can...You can tell them the NEXT time you plan to go and they can help in the planning. Enjoy the moment, it will be here before you know it.

:xmas: I vote for this one too. When we are going to WDW we start a year out and do all the planning and discussing. Its half the fun besides we always have things we want to look up or ask about or talk about. We are missing this year but going next year with the entire family from the Great Grand mom to the newest member of the family. Our now 4 year old grand daughter was 2 when she went last time and she keeps asing her mom and dad if Conner is old enough to go to Disney yet. :) Tell them the Truth (Genie from Aladin):ROFLOL:

How about you do something like tell them early, but make it a surprise...that way you can let them build up for the excitement and yet enjoy the surprise at the same time. I can't imagine keeping a secret like that for so long....

I think it helps if you have others you can talk about the trip with....your husband, friends, other family members. Many times its only my husband and I going to WDW and he isn't big on talking about a trip before it happens. For me, the anticipation lasts far longer than the trip, so I enjoy talking all things Disney with anyone who will listen. Visiting these boards help get me thru. Good luck and have a great trip!

I've been going through a similar thing. I'm going with my best friend and her daughter in about 20 days, and they think we are staying at an All-Stars resort. I just sorta kinda neglected to tell them that we're staying at Wilderness Lodge! It has been so hard to keep a secret because anytime they ask about specifics at the hotel I have to stop and think hard before I answer anything!

If you want to get Disney off your brain, DO NOT put the following on in the background while you sit at your computer.

Thanks for making it even HARDER!!! LOL! I know they will nearly have a heart attack when I finally tell them, but I'm going to do it! I have new strength from all of your well wishes, and I WILL KEEP THE SECRET!! Deep down I figure there are not many GOOD suprises in life, so you have to hang on when you discover one! I'm telling them that we are going to the beach for a week so that they will pack, and not think it's odd that I'm packing. We're only an hour from the beach, and are leaving out of the Atlantic City Airport--which happens to be on the way to the beach. I think we'll just say we don't feel like going to the beach after all, so what should we do? And just arrive at the airport. I just hope I don't wish the summer away!! Thanks!!

OMG!! poor lady! Those kids are mean! they don't even deserve to go to WDW!

Don't worry Diane, you won't have such luck, your kids WANT to go to WDW so I'm pretty sure they will be soo happy! My suggestion is do a scavenger hunt to give them clues. One per day for the week before or something and see if they figure out what's going on instead of just telling them. That way they'll be excited trying to find out where all this clues go.

Oh man Do I understand!! We booked the end of Nov and now have 96 days.. only one of my 4 kids know about the trip and the closer it gets the harder it is to keep the secret!
My 5 year old wants to go to Disney so badly he can taste it. I keep telling them 3 years.. 3 years.. meanwhile it's down to just 3 months!!

I think we are going to do something like this the 3 days before we leave... I don't want to tell my kids we are going anywhere else and have them upset at that..lol

I'm split!

On one hand, my planning side of me thinks that the anticipation is half the fun... but then again I've never been surprised on any trip before and I can only imagine how great it must feel!
