Can't STAND it!!

I booked our August trip last December for the free dining promotion. At 180 days out, I made all our ADRs. Air is booked. Rental car is booked. Countdown is in the double digits. I'm suprising my kids (12,10), and I can't STAND keeping this secret any longer!! I feel like I'm going to EXPLODE! I have had so many near misses of just blurting it out!! 2010 was the first time in 10 years we didn't go. My 12 yr old begs me on a weekly basis to PLEASE take them to Disney. I keep telling her we still can't afford it--maybe next year. I suprised them a few years back, and I can't remember it being this hard to keep a secret. Is there a mental exercise I can do to keep myself from going crazy????? AHHHHHH!!!:veryconfu

We are surprising our kids too! We are driving this time and just telling them we are going on a road trip! I think my daughter will flip (shes 6) when she sees Disney signs! My son is only 3 so I am not sure he gets Disney World!

I love to plan but I wish it was a surprise to me!! The wait is killing me!! Ha!! 74 days!

The planning and anticipation is good but we will have other times they will be in on the planning, especially when they are older. You can go to you tube and see a ton of surprise videos- they are great and so worth it!!

I saw that other you tube video before and were laughing! That is why we are not telling our kids we are going somewhere else, just a road trip. Kids are funny that way. They get something in their head and then are disappointed when it doesn't happen! I am sure they had a great time.

I've been going through a similar thing. I'm going with my best friend and her daughter in about 20 days, and they think we are staying at an All-Stars resort. I just sorta kinda neglected to tell them that we're staying at Wilderness Lodge! It has been so hard to keep a secret because anytime they ask about specifics at the hotel I have to stop and think hard before I answer anything!

That is a great surprise! We always surprise our kids only because their reaction is so great and they love surprises. Have a great trip!:king:

We are surprising our kids too. We are having a Grand Gathering in September and decided to wait until the morning of to tell them. They have gone almost every year and expect to go at this point. We bought a house this year so we told them we can't afford it. They talk about Disney daily and I always kid around with them saying let go to Disney today and my son will say no we can't you didn't get plane tickets or a hotel or book the dinners and I don't want the stinky dinners. I can't wait to tell them in September, they will never believe me.

I cant even believe those children acted like that, dont appreciate some thing like that!

The truth to that video is that they were going with their father to Disney in a few weeks, so the mother planned the trip to make the Disney trip with her more special than the one with their father since the parents are divorced.

Tell them now but in a special way. Let them experience the time before you go and get excited about whats coming. I was surprised once and didn't enjoy it as much because I was in shock the first few days and could't believe I was really there. It took awhile to set in I was really there!

We are going in July, my kids don't know yet...My wife and I debated on when and if we were going to tell them, we decided to just wake them up at 4:30am the day we are leaving wearing our Mickey Ears....I too can't wait..

Good Luck

We go to Disney every year to year and a half. This year we are going late in the year (September or December). Although the kids know the trip is coming (since we go often) I'm going to try and keep the details and the date a secret until we leave and/or get there. I'm hoping I can handle it!

I love surprises! We are going to our first disney trip in 9 more days and it's top secret. I can't believe i kept it in since dec. They have been wanting to go forever and now we have the means. They missed out on the planning but i have a great idea of what they like and have some great surprises for them. Like for my son it will be star wars weekend and he's a huge fan so that will be awesome. And my girls love princesses so of course we will be eating at the castle. We can't wait to tell them that morning during breakfast.

Just hold on..it will be here before you know it.

Like phineas says "ferb, i know what we are going to do today!"

You can do it! Keep it a secret! Really, you have only a few chances to surprise your kids with something like this before they're old enough that some of the innocence of it is lost. We've done it both ways with our boys (ages 9 & 4) in the last couple of years and have enjoyed surprising them a couple weeks in advance as well as planning a trip with them months in advance.
