Canada Underutilized?

On my last trip to WDW I couldn’t help but think that Canada was by far the least interesting country in World Showcase. I like the facade as you approach but once you enter all that’s there is the small shop on the left, half of which is NHL jerseys, and the circle vision movie. I was wondering what everyone here thinks about it. Anyone have some ideas to spice it up? I know there were rumors of a log flume ride in Canada at one time. What about a restaurant? Canada is the only place in WS that doesn’t offer something to eat. Discuss.

If you've been in the circle vision movie (which was updated in 2007) then you've walked right by the entrance to Le Cellier as the movie lets out in the same area as the entrance to Le Cellier. Le Cellier is one of the more popular restaurants in World Showcase and one of the more difficult to get an ADR at.

Personally I think the new circle vision shows what Canada is like. We are such a diverse nation (yes I am Canadian and proud of it) that I think it would be hard to embody that in a flume ride or any other kind of ride.

Ah, that’s right, I forgot about it. I must not have noticed it this last visit because I was attempting the "drink around the countries". It still seems like Canada is missing something though.

Well what does Canada (the country) really have to offer anyway? After all isn't Canada a vast wasteland where it snows 365 days a year, everyone lives in igloos, plays hockey and wears flannel?:lookaroun

Opening all the original stores again on the upper level would be good - other than that the pavilion is pretty much all in use.

Which I think would be a great addition to the current pavilion. Walking around on that top level feels like walking through a ghost town. Quiet... A little too quiet...

Solving the issue between the supplier and Disney regarding Beaver Tails would be nice too. The Pavilion used to have more but cutbacks/disagreements got rid of that.

As for the new movie, I hate the re-recording of the song and I don't think Steve Martin is exactly a hoot, but at least I don't have to look at a clip of pre-Skydome Toronto anymore or other ridiculously outdated depictions of Canada.

Steve Martin? I believe the actor's name is Martin Short...Steve Martin works over at Disneyland (if they still have the 50th show up even though DL is now 53...)

If you're going to complain about the movie, could you at LEAST get the comedian right? It was MARTIN SHORT that hosts the new movie, NOT Steve Martin. Martin Short IS a Canadian whereas Steve Martin is from Texas. If you're going to insult our movie, could you at least be accurate about it.

As a Canadian who has seen both versions of the circle vision, I personally like the new movie.

I know there were rumors of a log flume ride in Canada at one time. .

How about a roller coaster themed to a crazy trip on the QEW?

:ROFLOL:

Living so close to Canada, and having several Canadian relatives I visit often (okay, plus the concerts and sporting events are better in Toronto than Buffalo :D), I cannot help but agree that the Canada pavilion seems a little underutilized.

I've never been to Western Canada, but the experiences unique to different Eastern Canadian cities like Toronto and Quebec could be better integrated into the pavilion, IMO.

A little restaurant or CS place on the top terrace would be good. At least we (Canada) have an attraction, which is more than many countries have to offer. And we have Le Cellier, the gardens, the waterfall. We're just lacking in stores (what do we have to sell anyway?) and a CS place. I don't know what Canadian retailers they could get to go in there. Do you know how hard it is to find decent Christmas presents up here? :)

Hear, hear! Canada may be a bit underutilized, but as far as WS goes, it actually is one of the better pavilions (which could be taken as a good thing or a bad thing. :lookaroun).

Well Canada itself is underutilized in that it's mostly tundra and wilderness. So in that way the pavilion is representative of the country.

I'm sorry I got the two mixed up as I often do. BTW, in case you didn't know I am Canadian and I still have major issues with the film. It's better in some respects (but still dated, They recycled the shot of the Banff Springs Hotel and it doesn't show the new hotel right next door that was there when I last stayed there about 4 years ago). The humor comes across as unfunny (even if some Americans still do think we live like the 1982 movie showed us) and the butchered one of the great original EPCOT Center songs and turned it into something completely forgettable (and by using some Canadian Idol winner, a cheap knock off of an American show, what does that say about us? Why not get some kid with a unique Canadian award like the GG award?).

It's fine if you and others like it but I just wanted to be clear about why. I don't care who the hell the comedian is (even if he's some random guy from Idaho in a Martin Short costume), all I know is that the film could be better.

Also if you want the Canada pavilion to be better and fast, just put a Tim Hortons on the second floor so I can get some real doughnuts while I'm in the state of Florida.
