I hope I am reading your question correctly, that you are NOT a DVC member and want to rent a Villa? If so, then....

Yes, and we are NOT DVC members I called February 2008 for Christmas week 2008....we rented one of the DVC Villas at Animal Kingdom Lodge without a problem, Ill tell you what, there were people here (DVC members) ed to holy high heaven about it because many were on some waiting list or something to that effect.

But, to answer your question, yes, you can because I have done it.

Who did you call? Private Party or a Broker?

Just call Disney like you would any regular room, tell them you want one of the Villas, done.

Your welcome JEANY :)

Well, not necessarily "done." Disney retains ownership in a small amount of points in each DVC resort. This basically means two things:
1: If the resort in question is in need of renovations, they can do it a few rooms at a time without shortchanging actual DVC owners.

2: Those rooms can be made available on a cash basis.

You can rent direct from Disney (when a DVC member uses their points for a Disney cruise or regular Disney hotel, those points become available for Disney to rent out via CRO), or from a DVC member.

Actually I have never had ANY problems renting the villas...ever, I have done it several times during the busiest of times in Disney, I do not think she will have a problem.

As far as shortchanging DVC owners, they have been doing it, there were DVC owners on a waiting list to get into the villa that I rented. In 2008 it was a blow out about me renting the villa and not being a DVC member. I think Disney sees the opportunity to rent it to me ($$), so they do knowing that a DVC person will just pick someplace else... I mean lets be honest, they already have your money.

But, back on subject, I don think you will have a problem trying to rent the villa you want.....I have done it a few times.

I stand by what I've written, but if thinking you're special gets you through the day, have at it.

Disney is not "shortchanging" DVC members by renting out rooms via CRO. Far from it, it can actually be beneficial to DVC members.

First off, as background, understand that there are two sets of inventory at each DVC resort – those that can only be booked with points and those that can only be booked with cash. The points inventory are vacation homes associated with ownership interests that have been purchased by members and declared into the Condominium Association. Declared inventory is available to members to book using points.

The number one source of cash rooms is actually from the Member points inventory. This occurs when members exchange/trade outside of the DVC resorts. This includes using your points to book the Disney Collection (hotels at the Disney theme parks and the Disney Cruise Line), Concierge Collection, and the Adventurer Collection (but not trading via RCI). When a member trades outside of DVC, the points used to book the outside reservation are assigned to DVD to rent out.

These rooms cannot be booked using points, as they effectively already have been. If I use my points to book a Disney Cruise, DVC has to pay DCL for my trip. They get the money to pay DCL by sending a room to CRO to rent to the general public. If the room was left in DVC inventory for booking by points, where is DVC going to get the money to pay DCL? This room, in a sense, is being used by a member, even though they're not physically there. It's being used to pay for their non-DVC vacation. This is how we're able to get stays at other resorts on our points, so it's a good thing for members. If DVC didn’t do this, we would have to remove the option to use our points at Disney hotels, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, etc. Many members appreciate having those options available to them.

Another source of cash reservations includes Member inventory that has not been reserved by members using points. Any Member inventory not reserved by members using points is made available to Disney CRO at the 60-day mark for cash reservations by the general public. This is actually beneficial to DVC members, in that the association earns “breakage” income on these rooms rather than letting them sit empty. Otherwise, our dues would go up.

Finally, another source of cash rooms are those points owned by the developer (unsold, acquired via ROFR, etc.). Since these points are owned by Disney, they are not available to be used by members, but Disney can rent them out, just as DVC members cane rent out our points.

Thus, there is nothing sinister or unfair about this.

No, DVC doesnt make me feel special....my family does. But thanks anyway.

DVCMIKE....I dont really care enough to read all that, I have a life and NO INTEREST in DVC....but thanks anyway, maybe it will be useful to someone else. :)

To the original poster...yes, you can rent them, have a wonderful trip with your family. But let me just say, sometimes multiple rooms with connecting doors works out better because you get more bathrooms, thats IF you dont want the kitchen....or you can rent the All Star family suites that have the kitchenettes which are also very nice, we have stayed in those too and are more economical if price is an issue.

Thanks JEANY! I think you can only rent points from a member though. Through Disney it is just a cash deal, like it was said, same as booking any room as opposed to a private transaction with a dvc member. The 2 bedrooms are great, love the kitchen and the laundry and of course all of the space.

any time Yanks07! Thanks for the info!
Jeany, Where are you looking at staying? We have stayed in 2 bedroom Villas @ Beach Club, Boardwalk and Old Key West. OKW has the largest rooms, Boardwalk has only lock off's (studio & 1 bedrm), BC has both dedicated and lockoff rooms. We love them all, but for location, BC or BW is tough to beat. Mike

I agree , OKW has large beautiful rooms, yes they are the biggest and the 2nd bedroom has 2 queen beds vs. 1 Q and 1 Sleeper Sofa as most others do. Can't go wrong either way but I would think OKW would be a bit less expensive.

Since you can't be bothered to read Mike's explanation of exactly how the system works, suffice it to say that your previous post which is quoted below is 100% incorrect.

As far as shortchanging DVC owners, they have been doing it, there were DVC owners on a waiting list to get into the villa that I rented. For someone not interested in DVC... you posted a number of time in the DVC thread. Shouldn't you be getting on with your life?

Perhaps they make you feel a little TOO special. Hot tip: When they say you're the most amazing li'l princess ever, or some other such nonsense, just know their opinion is biased and not indicative of the populace at large. Here's hoping that bubble you live in never pops.

As far as your diss of DVC Mike goes, here's another hip tip: Sometimes, people go out of their way to help you become less ignorant. To not only reject their assistance, but dismiss it out of hand, hurts you more than them. This is all stuff your family should've taught you, but I guess they were too busy telling you how precious you are, and now you unknowingly suffer the results of their misguided version of unconditional love. More tis the pity. Toodles.
