OK, I have to share my happy day.

You know John and I sponsor a few kids. Well, we also have 1 writing buddy, who is a person who has a sponsor already but that sponsor does not write (usually corporate). So the sponsor relinquishes communication to me, or another hyper sponsor who wants more kids to write to. :D

Anyway, our writing buddy is named Xuefei and she lives in China. We were hooked up this past spring and we had not received any letters from her, though we have written regularly. I was starting to feel a little bummed and then today- what a surprise! Today we received 4 letters. The office in China must have saved them to send together, to save postage, or else they had to wait for a translator to come to the village. I'm not sure. But the letters are so sweet!

If you want to read them- go to my site, and click on her picture. Then scroll down. They are all on the same page.

*floating on air*

:) :) :)

Aawwwwee Erika you are so nice! You have a huge heart! If you were a guy, I would be in love with you! :animwink:

Seriously, it´s so sweet what you two do! :sohappy:

You and John are genuinely good people and your generosity and concern for these kids is truly commendable...:sohappy:

...The letters are VERY cute and well-written...apparently, her interest in foreign language must include English cuz she writes better than many of our own citizens. :)

...really proud to know ya.:)

Well, actually, her letters are translated from Chinese. But Joe in Nigeria writes in English! And he's only 8 years old! Except in his language, there are no correct spellings for anything and that means English words are often spelled however they sound  and not always the same way twice!

Wouldn't it be nice to meet these kids some day ...

...my wife took very special interest in a Laotian girl some 27 years ago...she was a student in her third grade class....the girl is still very good friends with her, we exchange Christmas gifts, we just attended her wedding and we will be attending a conference in which Dr. Huoy will be receiving an award for her work in bio-research.

...These kids NEVER forget and are forever grateful to those that reach out to them....

It WOULD be nice! I know some people who HAVE met their kids, and I know of other sponsors here and elsewhere who were once sponsored kids themselves.

That's a sweet story about the Laotian girl. It must have been exciting to see her grow and to watch the turns her life has taken.

Which reminds me... Have you guys seen the Overrated Disney thread that is going on? That stupid thing almost took all the flare I had because of the Big Improvements thread...

How can someone honestly say that parades, the most Disney element in the parks, are overrated?? They should start going to IoA or Six Flags more often... :brick:

Think about this, how does something get overrated. So many people like it that they keep talking about it so much, that when you experience it for yourself, it's hard to meet your pre-determined expectations. Things only get overrated because they are great ideas, that's what people want from a park, right? So now, we get mad cause JIYI wasn't up to expectations, and we get mad cause we get too hyped about the good attractions. No one can ever be satisfied today.
