News California indoor Mask Mandate is lifted

So if Day 0 was Monday. 6 days Quarantine + 5 days wearing a mask, that means I can enjoy a day at DL mask free (outdoors) trip and use my reservation on 1/15. I originally was going to take a nice 6 week break from the parks but looks like it’s only going to be 4. The holiday break was so abysmal that the family just needs to get out for a quick day trip. Between the kids being sick for 2+ months off and on (more on) due to my kindergartner son bringing back all those school germs, the crap weather (that we needed yes), me getting Covid and a bunch of other things that popped up. But thankful we re all still here and kickin and that we had time with family. Might be staying at the Grand Californian later this month. It’s kind of becoming a tradition to celebrate my nephews birthday and the cheapest rates of the year.

Oh and for anyone following along. I made it into the theatre that night with the wife and son. Daughter was with the babysitter, we re holding a large popcorn and my son was excited. Leaving wasn’t happening on my watch. Fandango should have had a disclaimer or something. I wasn’t even thinking about the damn mandate or I would have provided them with negative tests. The media or businesses (for what ve odd reason) do a great job of not letting you know that’s an option.

So long as you are symptom free, you should be good to go! Sounds like a fun and well-needed trip!

I'm past the 5 days here, but still having symptoms, so still stuck in isolation.

They should have gone all tuba:
https://www.news-medical.net/news/2...ents-vary-for-risk-of-virus-transmission.aspx

"The researchers found that the aerosols from these ten instruments covered ~20 to ~2400 particles/L, encompassing the range of normal breathing and speaking at ~90 and ~230 particles/L, respectively. The tuba has lower aerosols than if the performer was breathing normally, while the trumpet, oboe, and bass trombone produce more, compared to normal speaking. This means the tuba is a low-risk instrument for airborne transmission while the latter is associated with the highest risk."

I love that! 🤣

And whatever happened to Tuba Christmas?!?... That ridiculous yet fabulous massing of tuba players who would descend on Downtown Disney at Christmastime to play tuba-friendly Christmas carols?

For every article you can quote from the Socialist fun folks at Great Britain's The Guardian (why a British far left Socialist newspaper cares what happens 6,000 miles away in California is beyond me, but I guess everyone needs a hobby), you can find articles from more balanced and local sources that show California's exodus is a real thing.

Aside from the loss of a seat in Congress and an Electoral College vote, of course.

Here's some hard data from U-Haul as of a few days ago. 2021 saw more people leaving California than moving in by U-Haul, and placed California in first place in the unenviable "exit" category.

Yep. This quote here tells you what you need to know about business in California.

During the first quarter of 2021, New York had 15% of US venture capital money, Texas had 2%, and Florida landed 2%.

The analysis showed that California’s portion of venture capital money was 48%, down a bit but in keeping with typical year-to-year changes, but the state continued to eclipse its oft-discussed competitors.

I didn't know the status of venture capital investment was now a barometer of state population.

But the truth of the matter is that California just lost a Congressional seat in 2020 (and thus an Electoral College vote), while Texas gained two of those, and Florida gained one. It's a trend that accelerated in 2021, and shows no sign of slowing down in 2022.

Was that a clerical error at the US Census? Should they credit back a congressman to California from Texas?

I just got back from an exploration side trip to southern Utah. I had no idea how many brand new modern design houses there were around that region, and how affordably priced they were compared to Southern California. Like 21st century versions of Eichler homes, but with even more glass and vastly better insulation. Plus everything is new, the community is clean and orderly, and not a homeless drug addict in sight. And the government there treats you like an adult. I was honestly impressed.

If Paul Lynde could co-star on the Donny & Marie Show in the 1970's, fifty years later I could certainly slide into the social circle of St. George, Utah. 🍸

And I've been thinking about it since I got onto I-15 and headed back home....

So....you're mad that they weren't more stringent with COVID protocols prior to the game? The way you post in here, it seems you prefer less protocols and mandates. But because too many players popped positive, you now want to retroactively shame them?

I don't care about Covid, quite frankly. Because I'm vaccinated. And I only gained six pounds over Christmas instead of my usual 10, so I ate the Bachannal Buffet at Ceasars Palace last night to celebrate. I'm feeling good!

I'm just relaying the frustration and annoyance of friends from North Carolina who were amazed at the open hypocrisy of Californians, like the UCLA leadership. They sent the players to Sea World and the USS Midway and partying in the Gaslamp, with a big maskless pep rally with wind instruments and maskless cheerleaders the night before the game. And then cancelled the bowl game four hours before kickoff because a few kids healthier than horses tested positive for Covid with no or mild symptoms.

Half the UCLA team probably got VD from the girls they rounded up in the Gaslamp district the previous three nights, but it's Covid they cancelled the game over instead of chlamydia or crabs. 🤣

I like Norwegian one-hit wonders of the 1980's as much as the next guy, but if you really are scared of a mild virus and on the verge of cancelling a bowl game hours before kickoff, maybe don't do this the night before the game?

As for young healthy people not being impacted by COVID...Michael Lang would disagree. It is a rarity, but long term health impacts and death can happen to young fit people as well.

Key word being "rarity". On average, hundreds of American children drown in backyard pools or jacuzzis every year in this country. About 3,000 American children die every year in car crashes.

Somehow, we still have backyard pools and jacuzzis. And Disneyland has 20,000 parking spaces and encourages 75,000 people to drive their kids to Disneyland every day. Because death happens and simply living life carries risk. We don't shut down society because hundreds of thousands of children die every year in this country by drowning, and car accidents, and accidental overdoses, and flu, and other viruses.

So let's not set a different standard for Covid than we set for backyard pools or freeway driving.

Pretty sure a study conducted by the best universities in the nation is more accurate and beats out a study conducted by...

*checks notes*

Ah yes, the brilliant scientists at U-Haul. ;) Happy to see that company do something with their PR budget.

You've talked many times about business leaving California but the money is still being invested in Cali and not other states by a gigantic degree.

Yep, not only that but most of those large companies that "left" still have large operations here in California, aren't closing them down or forcing their employees to leave the state or find other jobs. It was really just a PR stunt by most of those companies, all they did was change the address on where they list the "HQ" or operations. And since almost all of them are incorporated in Delaware they aren't getting some big tax break anyways by doing that.

But canceling the game was due to too many players testing positive prior to the game. And I believe it has been pointed out that its not a CA rule regarding testing leading up to sporting events.

I can see your North Carolina friends being mad at the school's reckless behavior prior to the game which likely contributed to too many pops, but it doesn't sound like that's where their frustration was. They are frustrated for following a hard rule which UCLA didn't put in place.

I just think everyone has been taken by surprise wit Omicron. Just like you, I didn't really care much about COVID. I was vaccinated as were the at-risk people in my life. But I am surprised to see just how many vaccinated friends and family have been taken out of commission in the past few weeks due to this variant. The new variant lives in the throat rather than the chest, making it spread so much easier than we are used to.

Just an FYI, Fandango does have a link next to each theater name when buy tickets for that theaters specific COVID policies.

Just picking any random theater in LA on Fandango:

I mean I guess they could have put it up in big bold flashing letters, but the point is its there if you look. And even if the information is not specific to the local theater since Fandango covers theaters nationwide, its ultimately your responsibility to know what is required to enter a local business during a pandemic. Also I suspect that the local theater itself that you went to has signs up that indicate what is required to enter the theaters complex, all my local theaters have it up.

It’s ok. As I said, we all saw Spider-Man that night and enjoyed it.
