California Faux Pas?

In discussing what to bring, what to wear, etc. I'm somewhat curious just how sorely we might stick out. I'm representing (we live in Texas) and planning to wear my cowboy boots with a sundress & sweater on the plane heading out. I recently took my boots to Alabama where my parents lived but felt really weird about wearing them. My 18 yro & I love to goof around and always come up with some exclamation for exciting moments. A few years back we did the Cheese screams from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. This year we're both hung up on 'MERICA!!! Go around a corner fast in the car??? It's okay so long as you yell out 'MERICA!!!! Are we going to stick out like aliens in the super-cool California crowd? Juuuuust curious.....

Anything goes in California. A high number of its residents are transplants from other parts of the country and the world. They bring their style and culture with them.

So true. I was born in California, but none of my best friends I made there were. It's a very transient state. I remember hearing a joke once, "You know you're from California when you're originally from somewhere else."

Yay! I was kinda worried about wearing my boots. In Alabama (go figure!) it didn't seem like the thing to do. One of these days I'll buck up and flaunt my fabulosity regardless. I know it seems unlikely but my boots are actually quite comfortable. Not sure if do a whole park day beginning to end but to dinner or something is good.

In Southern California your style will work beautifully, but like Jarrett said you really need to OWN IT!

When it comes from the heart and you do it graciously, you can pull off anything you want.

Disneyland has a larger number of tourists from Australia and New Zealand, and you may pique their interest with your authentic Texas cowboy boots, so be prepared to chat with them in lines. The Aussies and Kiwis are always lots of fun to chat with, but be careful and don't first ask "Are you from Australia?" because if it's a Kiwi from New Zealand you just squashed a budding friendship. If they don't self-identify with national sports jerseys or flags, let them tell you if they are from Australia or New Zealand first. The Kiwis are particularly sensitive about that topic, but Aussies can take offense too.

There will also be many Asian tourist groups from Taiwan or South Korea led by a man waving a flag, plus small groups of "office ladies" from Japan (twentysomethings from big cities on a girls-only trip to Hawaii & California), but due to the language barrier it's harder to interact with them.

You wear what's comfortable for a full day of walking, and wear it with a smile, and you'll fit right in with the SoCal crowd.

One Little Spark...
This. The Disneyland crowd isn't anything special. It's not THAT much different than WDW. I've seen some folks that could easily be featured on a "People of Disneyland" site!
The only thing I'll note...you'll see a lot fewer people dressed like they are going on a long term camping expedition in the Appalachians than you do at WDW...

The dress is far more day to day. You won't see a whole lot of massive backpacks.

Fewer (or smaller) strollers, too, as I recall.

That surprises me! I've never gotten into cowboy boots, but with the weather getting warmer here cowboy boots will be out in full swing with shorts and skirts. Back in my single days I owned the southern dressing, wearing all sorts of UTK attire when I traveled. People thought that it was cute that I was from the South. I think you'll be totally fine in your boots. I've never felt out of place traveling to California.

In completely unrelated news I drove through Cleveland, GA on Friday on my way to a wedding. I didn't have time to head to the cabbage patch hospital, but I thought of you!

The weather is insane, it isn't supposed to be this nice all the time!

There's a reason SoCal (California in general, even) is often referred to as "paradise." Not to mention, the weather nowadays also has to do with global warming LOL.

SoCal's weather has a lot to do with the price to live here. We apparently don't have seasons.
