I travel for business and Hampton Inn is about the level Disney achieves, Trouble is they do Motel 6 service,

WDW at the moment does not operate a single hotel to the standard of your average Embassy Suites.

Which is freaking pathetic considering once Disney at WDW was the leader in the hospitality field.

What specifically does an embassy suites do that Disney does not?

You know what's funny?

Your comments regarding Hampton are greatly exaggerated. Greatly. Grandly.

I think Ford is exaggerating.

That said... the new Polynesian lobby is sub-Embassy Suites, especially if you know what was there before.

And just to turn it around a bit - what are some specific examples of how service (not amenities, theming, design, etc.) is better at Coronado Springs then Hampton Inn? Or even Wilderness Lodge?

I recently stayed at Uni's Portofino Bay, and I was repeatedly struck by how much better their service was then at the equivalent resorts at WDW (equivalent either in price or in stated luxury level).

Precisely,

I spend way too many nights in a hotel room and ive come to expect that the room be clean and everything in the room WORKS.

its not the theming or amenities like pools or shops when I'm equating Disney's hotels to an Hampton Inn

Im talking about the SERVICE or rather the lack thereof at Disneys so called deluxe hotels. When I check in to a hotel for an all too infrequent and short vacation. I expect the following

1 - undamaged room and furnishings
2 - clean unstained bedding
3 - no visible mold in the bathrooms
4 - working appliances
5 - a room key system that works the first time without repeat front desk visits
6 - Room available by PUBLISHED check in time
7 - timely cleanings based on advertised schedule

How is it that Disney for the past 2-3 years is completely unable to perform one or more of the items on that list ,

At Disney i'm renting premium rooms ie 2 BR and GV class rooms

And its BECAUSE of multiple bad experiences i have such a bad attitude here

Yet the biggest problem ive ever had at a Homewood Suites in the same timeframe is a dead tv and Ive had a lot more Homewood Suite stays than DVC stays and both provide the same room classes ( minus of course the disney theming and amenities like elaborate pools)

On vacation i expect an upgrade from my business travel experience not a downgrade.

As I write this i'm in a Hilton Garden Inn in CA Sipping the FREE coffee and reading the FREE copy of USA Today (WSJ weekdays) in the lobby waiting for restaurant to open.

Yet even in silicon valley im paying < 300 night here. And the service beats anything seen at WDW for quite a while.

Is there any thread where you will not bring up your alleged hotel experience?

Homewood Suites really are the best...

I don't understand how it's inconceivable to some on here that some of us frequently travel for work and stay in "real world" hotels

Do you know how utterly out of control some of those are?
Room damage happens. And when you're booked 110%, you can't afford to shut a room because some paint is slightly peeling. Furnishings can and should be replaced ASAP though. But sometimes you don't have the right table or chair and need to order it.
If there's mold in the bathrooms, well that's nature. Also fits into the unable to shut a room. There can not and should not a be housekeeper in a guest's room for several hours trying to get rid of mold when they have other rooms to clean. They get what they can get out and then go back later to fix it
Murphy's Law for the room key system.
Room availability, sometimes housekeepers get caught up doing other things whether that be running things for guests, or dealing with a trashed room.
And you have the gall to complain about not having a room ready by a published check in time but then reverse and say timely cleanings. I'm not saying it's not possible, but I am saying that housekeeping has more than your room to clean and sometimes a deep clean takes much longer than expected. In my experience, I've seen rooms trashed so horribly that front desk has had to help housekeeping with cleaning it.
Everything is not always going to be perfect and I understand you've had one too many bad experiences, but there's seriously no reason that you get this up in arms over something that, unless you've had years of experience running and working in hotels with multiple degrees in hospitality and hotel management, you really wouldn't understand how deep and how complex it becomes.

Alright, I said my peace. I'm ready to be crucified and labeled a pixie duster.

Because many of us that really travel all the time and stay in "real world" hotels know that he's full of crap. I have experienced none of the issues he claims to have had at Disney, but I have had every single one of those issues at both Marriotts (all levels except JW) and Hamptons.

Every single thing you just said applies to every hotel in the world, Disney or non, luxury or non.

And Disney can hire more cleaners. They can also (and frequently do) close rooms that aren't appropriate for guests. They can certainly afford to - Disney isn't on the razor's edge of bankruptcy, and their room rates are insane.

For what they charge, Disney should have the best people, people who "understand how deep and how complex it becomes," and they should have enough of them. Again, their room rates are outrageous.

Darn it why do you have to bring reason into this! Here I was sitting with my Disney rose colored glasses on and then I see your list and realize the Poly only ticked one of those boxes and that was working appliances. Everything else they failed on but hey I walked away happy somehow? I will say Disney made good on the fact that our room was not ready until 6.

So as we continue to derail the topic what we are saying is Disney hotels should be bought out by Hilton as those seem to be the brand that keeps being mentioned. Wonder if that would that be a bad thing, if they kept all the Disney touches?
