Lol then what was this post referring to being lost?

If nothing was lost, why complain?
I think what is being refwerred to as "Lost" is the whole original Polynesian lobby with volcanic rocks and waterfalls... Trader Sam's came in as part of that overhaul. It replaced an old arcade...whach in itself was no loss, but the lobby rebuild lost all of the charm of the original resort... It was puzzling that knowing how successful Trader Sam's is in California that they would have chosen to build the east coast version as small as they did, knowing the demand would be so high.

You have been here long enough to know that exploder posts drivel, and not facts.

Whoa, I have been here pretty long now. Unfortunately, I haven't been posting long enough to realize his foolishness. Thank you for pointing that out, and wonderful diction choices!

Well, there are some, such as us, that prefer the new lobby better. I will agree that Trader Sam's should have been much bigger, though.

I understand the loss of the lobby; that I was able to grasp thanks to monorail breakdowns. The old lobby was truly something. That being said, I find Trader Sam's to be a nice addition regardless of the resort overhaul. It is a tad small, but I feel like this adds to the atmosphere of the resort. Any time I found a seat there I felt special because there were only so many seats. It truly is a diamond in the rough.

And you are of course welcome to your opinion... The new lobby is what it is... it is not transportive and somehow magical the way the old one was...It's just a hotel lobby..and pretty to be sure... but not the charm and WOW of the original.

Well, you are welcome to yours as well, but the old one wasn't magical or transportive to us. Just in the way and not really charming at all.

Not to mention the replacement of a lovely tropical garden with poison green astroturf so you can see the bloody castle when you enter the Hampton Inn style lobby.

I agree about the size and scope of what they ended up building, We do love Trader Sam's...but it is not nearly as engaging as it's California counterpart...They really should have expanded the size and schtick in the bar...but I find they rarely play along at the same level of the bartenders in California....and because of the size of the space and crowd demand in Florida, you end up feeling a little like you should move along so other can get in.
It would have been amazing if they had actually restored full AA capabilities to Uh-Oah ...it would have added an awful lot to the Trader Sam's experience.

Yes it would have especially with the storm effect she once had in the Tiki room but thats not the WDW way anymore is it ...

It's true...the old stream leading to the pool with the spring head was beautiful...a magical little detail. I guess these days people just want open spaces and commercially available furniture you would see in any hotel. Kudos to the design team for actually creating the lantern installation overhead...if that detail were not there it could truly be any hotel USA. (except for the castle view out the back)...But now back to the Enchanted Tiki Room.. :)

That bar is one of the few good things about the recent changes at the Polynesian.

That being said, I can't help but wonder if Disney made the wrong call building it on such a small scale at the Poly. I have never considered the small size of this bar as a positive. Both the Poly location and the original at the Disneyland hotel are perpetually mobbed and unable to deal with demand, to the extent that I usually don't bother going because I'm not willing to wait half an hour or longer to get a space at the bar.

A larger-scale Trader Sam's, presumably at Disney Springs, with four or five times the capacity would have made more sense to my thinking, as with the loss of the Adventurers' Club there's still a demand for a highly-themed premium gimmick bar with a Disney touch. Jock Lindsay's was a good start, but imagine what Disney could do with a larger space and a couple dozen surplus animatronic parrots...

People may call it sacrilege, but I would honestly have no problem with most of the Tiki Room hardware being re-purposed into a Disney Springs bar. Rainforest Cafe for adults. After all, it was gimmick bars like Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic's that inspired not only Trader Sam's, but the original Tiki Room concept in the first place.

Why repurpose anything? They can well afford to create all new set pieces...they do not need to cannibalize attractions to furnish and decorate a bar... When you look at the assets and amount of money this company makes it is baffling that they have to close attractions to put new ones in or repurpose things from a viable attraction to create a new bar or restaurant.
and I agree the scale of the bar could have been much more ambitious to meet the demands...proper design and staging could maintain the imtimate feel of the original... Trader Sam's is another example of them undershooting the mark...

I'm not saying they should gut anything to build a bar but IF Disney were to close the Tiki Room because it no longer draws enough guests to justify its operating costs, it would be nice to see some of the hardware used in a way that guests could still and enjoy it. I'd rather see them end up in a bar or restaurant than in crates at Theme Park Connection.
