Doctor Strange has the sixth lowest box office gross of the 18 MCU flicks. The only post-Phase One flicks with lower grosses are Ant-Man and Thor: The Dark World.

Your pool of comparison is wildly successful movies. Just because he wasn't as wildly successful doesn't mean he isn't wildly successful. He was more successful then other IPs that have been parkified or IPs that people are clamoring to be parkified.

Even the most popular of movies are not seen by millions and millions of people. And even among people who are fully aware of who the character is, how many of them truly care enough to travel to see it? I'd say you have a whole set of people who specifically won't travel cause they could care less about Marvel.

And the same could be said for most of the IPs in the parks, even the most beloved ones.

Just playing devil's advocate here, as you know I like to do... Why would they be more apt to travel for an attraction/land they have no pre-existing attachment to or knowledge of?

They wouldn't. People only like things they know. It's why Ready Player One will make $500 million this weekend.

I'm friends on Facebook with the mom and dad of the little kid who asked Iger 3 years ago if they were changing the name of the park, and it threw Iger for a bit lol. They are the owners of Laughing Place site.

Oh neat. Huh I never knew that.

Well I still think the name of DHS needs to change, but that is just my opinion. But DCA does need to have a name change.

Fair enough but we've been through this before.
Six Flags over Texas used to be a theme park about Texas. The six original lands were Mexico, Spain, France, Texas (independent), Confederacy, and United States. One land for each flag that Texas has flown over its history, hence the name "Six Flags." Over the years, it's severely lost its theme, yet the name hasn't changed. Why? Because "Texas" is still the location of the park. There's no more of a fitting name.

The above is awfully comparable to Disney California Adventure. If DCA is degrading from a theme park to an amusement park too, there's no more of a fitting name.
While it's a stupid change, the pier is still a pier. Much like Cars Land is route 66. People suspect that they'll change the Soarin' film back one day. Marvel land hasn't happened yet. My point is, the park still has a loose California theme all around, and retaining a loose theme is better than just throwing in the towel.

But in the case of the latter, there can't possibly be a more fitting name than California Adventure. What would they rename it? Six Flags Over Texas never changed it's name. Now Texas is simply the location of the park, not the theme. DCA looks to be going down the same hole. It's becoming a high-quality amusement park.

The only way I see it changing again is if some CEO wants to place his own name on the dedication plaque, like Iger did with DCA, and I can imagine he might have the audacity to do with DHS.

They might not travel across the country to see it once, but if it is part of the collective Disneyland experiene, they'll experience it. One attractive thing about content being exclusive to the parks is that if people get attached/addicted to it, the way that you might miss a song and want to hear it again, you have to go to the parks. IP content certainly draws people to the parks but they are experiencing something related to the IP that is likely inferior to the source material. If you miss star wars you can watch the films or play video games. If you miss inside out, the mood swings aren't where you are going to wet your appetite. I am more a theme park nut than a movie nut, so with me and many others, I could get attached to galaxy's edge and want to visit it over and over without ever touching the films. With original attractions, they feel native to the park though and with no alternative for experiencing them, people are prone to getting attached and coming back. This isn't always the case but just my quickest answer.

I'm not sure what you mean, my whole point is they won't , and that's an unfortunate side effect of IP. All certain people need to hear is it's Marvel and a whole segment of people will lose interest . Even if the rides are amazing, they'll be turned off. All I'm saying is it's more limiting and alienating than something more general and non IP specific. If I say, "hey Disney just opened a new land with three awesome rides. A roller coaster, a drop ride, etc." That would probably be interesting to anyone with any care to ever visit a Disney theme park. But if I say "Hey Disney is opening a Marvel land with a Marvel drop ride, a Marvel roller coaster, and etc." I'll have lost the interest of a certain segment of the original group because all they hear is Marvel and know they don't care.

Yes, it will attract a certain segment too, but I have a feeling that most of the people it will attract would have been interested in visiting any new thing at Disney.

Are you forgetting there is a whole segment, the reason the Marvel is generating Billions, who would go that normally wouldn't be interested in Disney. That is the reason why Disney is doing this.
