I just hate that I"m forced to participate in today's pop culture. I'd rather quietly sneak out the back door.
Everyone knows who Mickey Mouse is, not everyone knows who Doctor Strange or Benedict Cumberbatch is, and to me, it's annoying that you have to watch a movie before experiencing a land or attraction to really "get" it.
But that's the thing... you don't really need to watch the movie in order to 'get it' or really know who he is anymore than you know who the ghost host is. Those pre-shows exist moreso not to explain (which, sure, they do as a byproduct) but to provide some semblance of entertainment during long queues. Early attractions were just a series of switchbacks that lead to disgruntled, bored guests and lots of complaining. That is where the idea of the pre-show was born (that and the necessity of needing one for Haunted Mansion to get under the tracks). Pre-shows aren't really all that necessary in order to enjoy the story of an attraction, they are there to disguise waiting as part of the attraction itself.
