I don't think GOTG will age well for this reason. In 10 years, will it feel dated?

(The answer is yes)

Of course it will. No one will care about the story in ten years. All the rides they are basing on movie stars and movies are all going to be dated a decade from now. And the park will feel lame for it.

And let's face it, any minute any of these people could be outed as a serial murderer, womanizer, grandma abuser, etc.

A bit off topic, But what's everyones opinion on Marvel Super Hero Island at Islands Of Adventure Universal Studios Orlando? I always found that area to be an extremely charming area but have never heard of people ever talking about the land, only Spiderman The Ride.

I didn't really care for Super Hero Island in IOA. I just didn't care for all the flat billboards and pictures of the characters plastered everywhere. for an environment that is mostly a metropolis I expect Disney to concentrate on making the area looked lived in with plenty of designed themed elements and ornate buildings. Keep the flat character billboards out of the land

I guess dumbo... Casey... and the tea cups should be on the chopping block too.

Don’t forget... part of bugs land was the response that DCA was too adult focused. I think bugs land swung too far the other way... but don’t forget the initial issue and repeat it

Casey Junior, Dumbo, and the teacups are much better developed attractions, that are part of the framework of a much better and more developed park. I'd take those over their Bugs Land counterparts any day. Yes, they appeal to kids mainly- but I'd imagine it's much more bearable for a parent to take their kid on Dumbo, Casey Jr, or the Teacups than it is to go on those awful bumper cars or the Heimlich Chew Train.

Yes. Bugs Land served a purpose very early on when DCA was worse than it is now. With Cars Land, Bugs Land is now a bit redundant, and I'm excited to see what is likely to be a much better land take its place.

Agreed. I think it will be a move from the flat comic book style of Marvel Superhero Island TOWARD the more textured and exploratory style of Diagon Alley. Still highly saturated, but more material and texture rich. More real. Do I think it'll be as good as Diagon Alley? Not saying that, but it should be, given that Universal is a real threat and frankly nothing disney is doing these days should be taken less than seriously.

There's no hair splitting here.

Disney isn't going to re-scope the park. They're making substantial investments in turning it into a miscellaneous repository for brand. Those additions will sit next to the last elements of DCA 2001/2012. The notion of "revisiting the overall projection for the park" is wishful thinking, not a serious assessment of what Disney is interested in doing. Perhaps you mean to advocate for more than simply a rebrand of the park, but if so, that certainly isn't an obvious part of the conversations that people are actually having.

The conversation around changing the park's name only comes up in the context of the Marvel/Pixar takeover of the park, when people are looking to find that "theme" that will make it all make sense. There simply isn't a "name" that will fix the intrinsic inconsistencies in the park.

Now you are fixated on attractions... the idea of the name, brand, and image... are all very much things Disney could swap without changing attractions to deal with the mashup they have now. Any such 'name change' would include branding, marketing, and how the park is positioned.. including even revisiting the AP for 2 parks topic...

What the park name, branding, and marketing ARE very important topics... not just throw-aways.

Which is why I think a name like Disney Cinematic Adventure or Disney Cinematic Universe makes sense for where the park is going.

I think the minute that a celebrity is introduced in a theme park ride it muddies the waters. I think it slams you into face first into reality and out of the story. It would be a lot easier and require a lot less back story to simply create a ride that features a sorcerer, than to have to explain why the cute, British guy is in a Marvel ride and what he's doing there.

Maybe...but I can't really think of any non-celebrity in an on-attraction human role that has served any better than if it were a recognizable face. I really don't think it matters much because generally if that ever happens (with some exception like MB) they're really just part of a pre-show before they send you along your way. If the whole attraction was their face though, I do see how that could be problematic.

To me, where you run into the issues, is when the celebrity is playing themselves -- i.e. Ellen's Energy. Because in cases like that, they're generally wearing current-day fashion and not covered up in special fx makeup so that when you see them in the attraction 10+years later it all feels extremely out of date and instantly makes everything feel a bit dusty and old.

Superheroes I think have a little more flexibility there due to the costumes and makeup that do a good job of concealing who they are, unless you're Chris Pratt and pretty much playing himself. :)

"The Guardians of the Galaxy will be joined by Spider-Man and the Avengers in what will become a completely immersive Super Hero universe, furthering the evolution of Disney California Adventure park. This new land will be anchored by the popular Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, in the adjacent space that is currently occupied by “a bug’s land.”"

The perfect compliment to GotG - M:B!, Marvel Land:

BTW, I'm sure this has been talked about on the WDW side, but these are some of the names they are considering for the name change for DHS:

•Disney Beyond Park
•Disney Cinemagic Park
•Disney Cinemagine Park (this one is rumored to be the winner)
•Disney Hyperia Park
•Disney Kaleidoscope Park
•Disney Legends Park
•Disney Storyverse Park
•Disney XL Park
