I may be reading to much into Martin's wording, but "unauthorized removal" does sound to me like what you are describing.

I hadn't considered that before. Perhaps it was assumed stolen by Disney before an imagineer or other internal entity fessed up to removing it prematurely/without permission. Taking the logistical difficulties into account, this would certainly be a more plausible theory than three-guys-and-a-truck

I agree. And if it was employees saving what they could from going to the landfill then they should be praised for their initiative. It was the right thing to do in this case.

I have it on no authority that Buzzy had wire cutters stashed in his jacket and he was tired of sitting in the dark most of the time. He cut the hydraulic and control lines, and removed himself from his stand, took Hypothalamus with him and then made his way over to the Skyliner so he could finally die in one of the "Gondola's of Death" he had heard so much about recently. I guess he took the closure of WoL a decade ago pretty hard and finally found an "out".

I've heard rumors The Yeti wants to go that way too. Somebody better check his fur for wire cutters.

Unfortunately that's not how it works in the real world.
“Unfortunately”... if their method of saving something involved “unauthorized removal”, I’m not sure praising it would be great company policy... did something like this happen in the past and actually get praised?

All the time. It was the norm, not the exception. At least in this country. Now everything has a script or a rule attached.

Not sure where this generalized statement and certainty comes from, but ok!

From the past. It is called initiative. Thinking outside the box. Rising or falling by the decisions made by individuals. Now this is mostly verboten.

Crushed by over regulation, overreach, lawyers, bureaucrats and speech codes. This is why socialism is the destroyer of worlds. And creativity I might add.

Tangent over. Happy New Year! 🎉
