Busy day in the MK today, additional Spectro added tonight at 10pm. Still no signs of that drastic attendance drop from what I can tell.

I just wish all the "doom and gloomers" who predicted empty parks and rotating park closures would explain how they got it so completely wrong.

Spring break is starting and then the summer crowds. I don't think WDW has slow times anymore.

Crowds

I was in the world last week and we pretty much walked on everything. I was very surprised! I'm not complaining, as it was such a great way to be there!

I think Disney has realized a major attendance drop has not happened. They adjusted the hours at MK for March 9th from 8pm to 11pm, then moved the magic hours there so it's open until 1am. Studios was adjusted march 8th from an 8:30pm close to a 9pm close. Magic hours were also moved so it's 12am, and an additional Fantasmic was added at 10pm that night. All in all they've added 3 additional hours, and 2 additional showings of Fantasmic in the parks over my trip. Good for Disney to actually extend hours and increase shows and parades when needed!

DHS was hellacious today as well....

TSMM was 180 minutes at one point, Tower was 100 (though it constantly fluctuated because several lifts kept breaking), RNR was 90, even Star Tours was 45 minutes at one point.

It felt worse today than it did when I visited in JULY. So much for an "off season."

Sounds good to me. Looks like I will be able to get some hours in at the Jungle next time I'm down there. I was worried I wouldn't be scheduled because of the supposed drop off.

Hey management, now that attendance seems to be good, how about green lighting some projects? Now's a better time than ever.

Not to be adversarial or side with the pessimists, but...
It is president's week when most of the schools in America are closed. Traditionally a very, very busy time @WDW so you'd really expect there to be crowds. Sure you could argue that they should be lighter in a recession, but I think the real test is what happens at the turnstiles during those non-peak weeks. Also, who knows: maybe the doom and gloomers were right at the time but Disney's marketing and discounts are actually helping their situation. I can't say I know how things are really going for Disney right now, but I do see lay-offs and apparent buget restraints, so it can't be too rosy.

Yes but we were told the Christmas season was always busy so "just wait until Christmas is over", then we were told "just wait until the marathon/MLK weekend is over", now we are being told "just wait until Presidents week is over". Next we will be told "just wait until spring break is over" and then "just wait until summer is over",

Just call me a skeptic cause I don't believe it anymore. (not that I ever did)

Perhaps people are leaving it as late as possible before booking given job insecurity.

Yep seems logical. Disney may have lost some of the luxury of knowing guest bookings 6 - 12 months ahead, but so far this year, attendance has appeared to guests as being very similar, if not higher than last Jan and Feb.

When I was there 10 days ago I would say the crowds were moderate, definitely more people that I had expected. We all know this week is one of the busiest of the year, curious to see how it stacks up to last years president week numbers.
Sat next to a cast member on the bus who worked in housekeeping and she said occupancy rates were down 50%, at least at the Contemporary where she worked. Said her hours had been cut drastically.
I think the promotions as well as the weather in the north have helped a great deal. I live in MI and have family in NY and we all have cabin fever.
I base hotel occupancy rates on discount codes, they usually speak for themselves. When levels are not where they need to be, the codes start pumping out. So based on that thinking Disney feels they need to continue promotions until august 15th,(actually really through september) so surely things must be off at least a little.

With the north wing gone and the BLT construction, this doesn't surprise me.

FYI - I was at All-Star Music in September 2001, and they told me the resort was at 100% capacity! I later found out that they had 5 of the 10 buildings closed, but the 5 remaining were full....

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

OT:
September 2001 was creepy, wasn't it?! Ghost town!
