Busy day in the MK today, additional Spectro added tonight at 10pm

I was at MK yesterday and yes it was busy. But I have been going this same week for the past 17 years. I do not think it was the busiest I have seen it. Usually when Mardi Gra Collides with the Northeast break it is a little busier, which i believe will be next year. But i can say that it was still very busy yesterday, which is good news, but as the poster above said this week is always busy.

What schools in the US are closed during "presidents week"? In Georgia, my child was not even off for the day!!

I'm going during to WDW this year during Spring Break (and have never been before) and expect it to be crowded beyond belief. I'm not worried, would rather be at a busy park than back in the world behind my desk!!

Let's See MA, NY, Vermont,RI, Michigan some years?. NH is next week. I know there is more those are just what i know for sure.

I disagree with your logic, it goes against human nature.

"Look, I can go for 7 nights for the same price as 4 nights, lets do it!" - thereby adding 3 days worth of meals and other purchases that wouldn't normally be there

"Wow, with this Buy 4 Get 3 Free Deal, for the same amount of money that I was spending for 7 nights at a value resort, I can now upgrade to a moderate resort" - guest is spending the same amount of money and getting more value, are now exposed to a higher level of resort, and may return there in the future instead of a value....

"Hey, look, we saved $300 with that 7 for 4 deal, lets splurge and treat ourselves to a character breakfast or two."

It is the rare individual or family that pockets the money they save from a discount package.

That's true in a general sense. There have been some examples of people pocketing money. Last year's free dining in Sept. and the Visa cardholder free dining in December were very good deals that didn't really lend themselves to making up the money elsewhere. Point taken, though.

This was the scene in Frontierland yesterday afternoon (excuse the mobile quality):

You literally could not walk through Adventureland. :dazzle:

Holy crap. There is no way I could enjoy myself with that many people.

OMG:dazzle: that picture of Adventureland terrifies me, I can feel the heat, smell the BO and hear the kids whining "I'm tired!". I am taking my 5 year old twin girls this year, can't wait but kind of dreading it too - but sort of in a good way:ROFLOL:

Okay, so schools up North get out that week. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.............wasn't everyone just out for the Christmas holidays?

Here the kids get a week off in April for Spring Break, then are done with school before Memorial Day (but they start around the 10th of August)

I don't have kids so I don't knwo what the current schedule is, but if I recall from my days growing up, here in Massachusetts we didn't have much time off in the fall, other than long weekends for Columbus Day and Thanksgiving. We had off maybe a week and a half around Christmas. Then we had week-long vacations in mid-February and mid-April. School extended into early-to-mid June depending on whether we had to make up any snow days.

And I know that this week is vacation week because the elementary school I pass on my way to work each day is deserted.

As a teacher up North, I can tell you that the February break is the most needed break that we have. Weeks of indoor recess and lousy weather make kids really turn off to listening, and all those winter "bugs" and viruses leave us all in need of a break.

FYI...I know of no school in Indiana that is closed for President's Week. Some schools were off on Monday for President's Day, but some had to use it as a snow make-up day.
Do you really think that resort bookings are down for the upcoming summer months..even with all these 'special offers' and 'deals/pin codes' that are coming out.? I am very surprised. And here I felt like we were the only family in America not going to Disney this summer. I guess that we have more company than I thought.
I called the Disney reservation number to price the first week of June with the 'buy4/get 3 free deal' and the only resort they offered me was the Beach Club.
Still out of my price range.
Everybody enjoy the empty parks this summer.:ROFLOL:

Check without the promo. I've seen lots of dates not available with the promo be available at normal prices.

Time for some reality checking for anyone who thinks things are fine at WDW (or anywhere these days).

Just got back from a very last minute (almost) week in O-Town.

And while the parks were exactly how I expected them to be earlier in the week (moderate to crowded), they tapered off as the week went along. Thursday was an extremely light day EPCOT for example while Monday TPFKaTD-MGMS was slammed.

Again, let's consider the following FACTors:
--President's weekend/Valentine's Day brings in many people, including locals;
-- Many schools in the NE and MW have winter break the entire week and are off, so this week is traditionally busy;
-- Daytona 500 brings many people to the area;
-- The parks were largely dead post-Super Bowl until Friday the 13th;
-- Most WDW resort guests are staying on the Buy 4 Get 3 free deal (many even got $200 gift cards when they booked);
-- Many of these trips were booked a while ago at least that's my perception anecdotally from speaking with many people;
-- While WDW's value resorts were almost sold out and the mods were very busy, many of the deluxe resorts (Beach Club and Poly were two I spent a fair amount of time at) were considerably less crowded and obviously there's a larger profit margin on those rooms;
-- While the crowds at the parks in many ways didn't seem to be off from past year's during the same week, they certainly weren't spending on merchandise and that's where Disney makes so much (I can imagine the per capita numbers are going to be very ugly!). World of Disney had a sale going on that was unprecedented with 25% off all jewerlry, 25% off all big figs, 25% off all watches, 50% selected tees, 40% off men's polos, 15% off all baseball caps just for starters ... I have never seen anything like it, yet I have also never seen fewer people carrying bags meaning they weren't buying.

So, yeah, people were in the parks but that means about as much as all the people I saw in the malls at Christmas ... it was crowded, but not much spending was going on.

That's because there's really not much to spend your money on once you re IN the park.

They already got your money for admission AND for food.

There's not much to buy once inside that isn't readily available somewhere else on property. How many HSM shirts can one actually buy?
