Bus fire near AK 4/7

Yesterday around 4:15 I was entering WDW via Sherberth Rd and saw a Disney Transport Bus on the other side of the road pulled over with flashers on and smoke coming from the back of the bus. This was just before the entrance to AK. The smoke wasn't really bad, looked like it overheated but thoughts of the other bus fire by DTD not that long ago did enter my mind. I didn't see any passengers along side the road and it looked like it just pulled over. I continued on my way to the BC and the an ambulance went by followed by a red emergency vehicle. By the time I parked and was on the BC beach I could hear lots of sirens.
I left BC at 5:45 and made my way back home. As I got to the exit by Western Way there were traffic cones and people directing traffic. I was allowed through and there was the remains of the bus being loaded onto a big tow truck with a ramp. The back was burned as well as maybe the last 2or 3 rows. Not nearly as bad as the last bus fire but bad enough.

Wasn't the fire by DTD a different style of bus that served the DTD hotels? Still, 2 fires in a short time span. Hopefully, it's just a coincidence. I would imagine overheating could be a real challenge in the Florida heat with the workloads the buses have to pull (though city buses probably work even harder).

What is going on with these busses? This is like the 3rd case I have heard of in the past 6 months. Maybe they should do some more checks in the morning before letting the busses go out or something. If I had to guess, I would say the oil is getting out and then burning from the turbo reaching 6000 degrees!!! Yes that would cause a bit of a problem..... a fire perhaps!

As I recall, the DTD fire was not a Disney bus, but one of the hotel buses that says "Downtown Disney" on the side. A lot of people [wrongly] assume that if it has the word "Disney" on it, Disney owns it. Mears owns the DME and DCL buses, I think there are a couple of other companies involved in the hotel shuttle routes and then there's the Cast Member shuttles that are also run by a non-Disney contractor. I think the only buses Disney actually owns and operates are the buses between Disney Resorts and the Parks/DTD.

Whether this report relates to a Disney-owned bus or not is unclear.

ummm i think CPs on the board probably aren't very alarmed by this because during my program a dynamic bus catching on fire was a regular occurance on the way to work

ok im just picture that drive to work every day. You are going along on the first day and oh look a burning bus thats shocking and then the next day its like "hey look flaming metal" and the next day "hey fire" and the next day "man that is a awesome sculpture wonder who made that thing" and after a week its just something normal to your drive like people walking down the sidewalk.

I am begining to think that the next time I am in Disney I should probably sit towards the front of the bus. Just in case that nice big engine in the back decides that day is a good time to burst into flames. I like to come back from Disney with a tan and all, but I think that might just be a little extreme. :lookaroun

Just to add as a side note to ambulances at exactly that 4:15 time frame. I was at AK watching the parade and was right next to the gate the parade goes in and out of, and at that time 2 ambulances showed up at the back side of the gate to pick up 2 people that looks like they may have passed out from the heat. (in the crowd of guests, not anyone in the parade.) I wanted to add.

That must have been those notherners passed out from the April heatwave. The same ones who make fun of us wearing sleeves in 50 degree weather. :lookaroun

Please, 50 is warm!!

It was 50 here yesterday, and I saw more shorts and tanktops than I've seen in months. I laughed all through my trip in December because of the Southerners in fur coats (yes, fur!) when it hit 60.

It's 53 right now here in NJ and I was thinking about throwing on shorts and a tank top to go sit outside and work on my tan.

Southerners have no idea what cold really is. Cold is it being -15 degrees and clearing off your snow corevered car at 6am in 30mph wind. That, my friends, is what cold is all about.

Smoke coming out of the back of a bus doesn't constitute a fire and is actually a pretty common occurence. There are a million things in there waiting to blow. I am a student and bus driver at the University of Georgia (we have a fleet of RTS buses just like Disney, we even own some buses Disney bought but then decided they didn't want) and smoke can come out of the back of them from many different things.
