You're all wrong! That was just a "Water Bug." I don't get upset about the bugs until they start pushing dishes off the shelves and breaking things. ;)

Scorpions are a different matter! I really freak when I find one!

And I LOVE frogs, although I only have one right now.

One of the group commonly referred to as "Palmetto Bugs", the American roach is the largest (1-3/8" to 2-1/8") of the roaches infesting homes. It has reddish brown wings and is a good flyer. American roaches often invade from sewer systems and heavily mulched areas. The female attaches the egg capsule, containing 15-18 eggs, in high areas in garages, closets, utility rooms and fireplaces. Found nearly anywhere in the house, American roaches contaminate food, carry disease, damage book bindings, fabrics and wallpaper. Or, as you can see, Palmetto bugs are "your worse nightmare!"

I've got to share with y'all the first time I had the pleasure of meeting a "southern" roach. I stayed with my best friend in his apartment in the suburbs of Atlanta while waiting to close on my new house and one evening I saw him spraying Raid along the doorway leading to the outside. He told me that if he doesn't do this on a regular basis, the bugs would make their way inside.

A week later while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I turn on the hallway light and what greets me? A roach that's the equivalent of a football lineman. Usually lights frighten bugs and make them scatter. This one gave me a sneer as if to say "If you don't turn off the light right now, I'm gonna knock you out." It didn't move a centimeter.

The Monster had to have been at least the size of my thumb. The next morning, my friend tells me that was a "small one."

Budding entomologists, eh?

Yuck, me no likey bugs.

In fact,

I am desperately intimidated by both insects and arachnids. (especially arachnids)

Only kind o' bugs I do like are ladybugs.... dunno why, they are just so darn perdy and kyoot and, well, you catch my drift...

*swept away down the river by this drift*

Good lord, somebody help me!

This river's sweeping me away!!

HELP!!

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Nimmy, I am

Im with you on the lady bugs...those are the only ones that dont freak me out when I see one.

One day a bee buzzed into the office and got under the blinds on the window. I took off out of the office while Sam stood on the desk bashing the blinds against the window, cursing, trying to kill it, while I danced up and down the stairs yelling "KILL IT!! KILL IT!! KILL IT!!"

Hmm...that seems to be my mantra when I encounter our six legged friends ;)

You haven't lived until you try to spray one with Raid and it flies AT you.

Two things

1. Come to my house in the summer...you can have all the _________ frogs you want  (Ask Christy  She's heard them)

2. Scorpions? You have SCORPIONS in FLORIDA??? *rethinks move* Now...another thing about that statement...you really WHAT when you find a scorpion???

(And for the record...when I see scorpions...I rock like a hurricane...through the winds of change) ah thank you

Yes, we have scorpions in Florida. NEVER put on shoes from the back of your closet (like boots) before shaking them out!

I've never found a LIVE one (thank God!) but have found dead ones when I was renovating my daughter's room and removed all of the books from her bookcase so I could move it. I found 2 dead ones behind it. ugh. These aren't those great big ugly black ones you see in pet stores; they're much smaller and a pale brown color. Just the fact that they were in my house gave me the creeps. :lookaroun

BTW, here's some info from this morning's T-U garden section.

Best to steer clear of some insects. These bugs can pinch, bite or emit a foul odor or a painful-to-you fluid.

Earwigs: pinch and foul odor

Wheel bugs: pungent scent and bite worse than bee sting

Two-striped walking stick: "They can discharge a milky fluid to distances of 12-16 inches with good accuracy to ward off predators." Extreme pain and burning if it gets into your eyes or mouth.

My neighbor has a Koi pond, and last spring the frogs were using it for their nightly orgies, so I know what you mean about the noise. It was cute when the tadpoles became froglets, though; there were itty bitty frogs EVERYWHERE!

I hate animal cruelty...but when it came to those frogs...it came to a point where we'd need to take the pool skimmer and play "Frog Launch"...flinging them into the woods heheh. They'd be spread eagle flying through the air

Now...don't get me started on my neighbor's rooster and chickens...I love it when I see that beautiful fox around :D (Shortly after you see him...feathers go flying  )
I hate to see it because the chickens are so defenseless...but...there's a den with 4 baby foxes in the woods behind my house :)

Would gladly trade you that den of foxes for the bear that has been living in the woods behind my house. Last year he killed a deer a hid it at the back of my house to "age" (I'm told by the rangers that rotten meat is heaven to them).

I would also rather listen to the frogs than the damn geese who live on the lake...any little thing sets them off (esp the bear swimming to the island in the middle).
