ANAHEIM – Disney creators are turning to an old-fashioned method of giving out information to visitors: a newspaper.
The Buena Vista Bugle debuted this summer at Disney California Adventure as part of the park's makeover to explain new features. Disney is producing the information in a very 1920s and 1930s way, matching the architecture and style of the Buena Vista Street entrance corridor.
California Adventure officials borrowed the concept from its neighbor, Disneyland, which produced The Disneyland News beginning in 1955. At California Adventure, Buena Vista Street is the equivalent of Disneyland's Main Street, U.S.A., where The Disneyland News used to be distributed.
Mary Niven, vice president of California Adventure, said officials wanted to find something besides the map and guide to tell the stories of the park to visitors.
The Red Car News Boys street show had entertained with a newspaper as a prop, so Niven said officials decided to add a real four-page newspaper for the first month of California Adventure's expansion, which debuted in June.
But the Bugle gained popularity: Between 12 percent and 15 percent of surveyed visitors reported that they got information from the newspaper. And it's common to see visitors relaxing on a park bench or sipping a Starbucks coffee at an outside table, flipping the pages.
Obviously, we were onto something. So, we're not just walking away from a great idea," Niven said.
A new article from the OCRegister has additional details about the BVS Bugle newspaper. Apparently the newspaper was only going to be issued for one month after DCA's relaunch but because of its popularity it will continue at the park indefinitely. Also, Halloween and Holiday version are in the works.

Buena Vista Street will be decked out in vintage-style ornaments and décor.
The garlands, lights and music when you walk down that early 20th century street way toward the beauty of the Carthay Circle Theater will take you out of the problems of the modern world and pull you into a nostalgic view of what this great city could have/would have been like at this time. That circular area in front of Elias and Company? That's where the new Christmas tree will go, all bright and lit up to stun guests. Walking into Elias, you'll get the feeling you've entered an early Macy's store, complete with a display set up for that jolly old man himself. That's right, Santa will now be located inside the main store on BVS, instead of being in that little gazebo on Paradise Pier. It will evoke a very Macy's Christmas feel and Mr. Claus will have plenty of elves around him to greet kids young and young at heart.
ANAHEIM – Truckers are moving Disney's C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letter statues north to the state fair after a decade in front of Disney California Adventure.
On Thursday, eight workers placed the statues onto three flatbed trucks transporting the iconic statues to Cal Expo in Sacramento. Crews plan to unload the 10 statues Friday into storage until they are displayed in front of the fairgrounds in about a year, said Paul Gillingham, deputy manager of the state fair.
I really wish they'd switch the window displays on BVS back to the way they were.
I too like the hedges in front of Carthay.
Yeah, you might not even notice anything is wrong if you were just walking by.Much nicer than the plywood construction walls, my eyes have grown so tired of see them.
In the wake of the extremely popular “Music from Cars Land” album, another new CD comes out November 6 that has already become a favorite among Disney cast members. “The Circle Sessions: The Music of Carthay Circle” offers, for the first time, sparkling jazz versions of great Disney songs, selected from the soundtrack of the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge at Disney California Adventure park!
