^ I think most of us were expecting some sort of walkthrough or exhibit, but I understand why they changed the plans and are adding a restaurant instead. DCA's entrance doesn't have any real full-service table restaurants, so this should be a nice addition to the land :)

MintCrocodile posted a photo update of the Blue Sky Cellar today, including many new pictures of Buena Vista St. concept art:

Geez, is it me or does that turnstile building look incredibly tall?!? Maybe those towers are the big pylon flag pole things themselves, and the bulk of the building will be much lower to the ground?

I just mentioned this in the Paradise Garden thread about sponono88, but it also applies to you nemofinder22! When this construction is all done in about 15 months, all of us here in the wdwmagic community will owe you and sponono88 a big Matterhorn Sundae from the Main Street ice cream parlor for providing us with all these great picture updates, expertly selected and edited by you to provide the perfect quick updates of all the DCA progress.

It just can't be said enough, especially because so many of us on this board are nowhere near SoCal and can't see this in person, but thank you for your work to keep us all updated like this!

Looking good! Why is it going to take them another 5 months to complete them though? They're building full restaurants in seemingly less time than that!

A new set of blueprints has been posted by MouseInfo.com. This layout shows the new vs. the old and highlights the changes that are coming.

The old Sunshine Plaza plans (in pink) have been overlaid on top of the new Buena Vista St. blueprints

Notice the extension of the new turnstiles, now located at the same spot where the CALIFORNIA letters used to be. Also, the new Carthay theater takes up the unused space that used to sit behind the Sun Icon.

More great update pictures nemofinder22! Thanks!

In this other picture I found in Dateline Disneyland's smugmug, you can really see how the new DCA entry turnstile structure is more massive. It's really going to wall in and seal off the DCA entry area from the Esplanade and views over to Disneyland, creating a more enveloped sense of place and space for DCA's opening act.

You can see remnants of the old DCA turnstile covers that were very plain and basic and skimpy in front of the newly forming Pan Pacific turnstiles.

For those who don't remember, the old DCA park entry area was very basic and you stared right out at Disneyland's much grander entry across the Esplanade. With the Pan Pacific turnstiles in place, it's going to be harder to spot Disneyland across the way. And with how beautiful Buena Vista Street will be, that's a good thing.

WDI has really been tending to the details on this DCA entrance extreme makeover! It's like they honed in on every small detail that weakened the overall DCA experience, and they fixed it with their new design. :sohappy:

This week the info booth as well as the seating area went behind walls.
http://mintcrocodile.smugmug.com/photos/i-3bCXhKQ/0/X3/i-3bCXhKQ-X3.jpg

And already gone in that picture is the overhead lighting/shade structure that formed the "train station" look for the California Zephyr streamliner that houses the bakery and ice cream parlor. BOOM! It's gone in a flash, like so much else around DCA nowadays.

With the info booth (a small homage to San Diego's much grander Santa Fe Depot) behind walls, and the dining patio also behind walls, it won't be much longer until those two original structures are torn down. A couple more workdays and they will be gone too?

I, for one, will miss that little corner of the park at least a little bit. The original 1954 streamliner train was unique, and that little setting was one of the most succesful corners of DCA's otherwise cheap and uninspiring entrance complex. But bigger and much better things are ahead, so I won't exactly be crying over the loss either!

There working fast, part of it is already gone, and the Golden Gate Bridge is in just terrible condition, at least it will be gone.

I have to agree I did like this area, but whats replacing it looks much better.

Speaking of Sunshine Plaza. Ever wonder what happened to the sun? From the Blue Sky Cellar-
....For example the sun icon that used to be in Sunshine Plaza was donated to the city of Anaheim for an upcoming project so it can be displayed for public enjoyment....

Apologies if this question's been answered already - What will the Golden Gate Bridge be restyled as?

As a two-lane bridge from 1920's Los Angeles. Remember, DCA's new entry area will be themed as 1923 Los Angeles as Walt would have discovered it when he arrived on the train from Missouri.

There are lots of those old 1910's-20's bridges and viaducts around metro LA. It's been mentioned that WDI is taking particular inspiration from some of the more famous ones, as seen below. It might be a mish-mash of these types of baroque highway designs..

You'd just need to imagine it without the graffiti, and with monorails zipping over it instead of delivery trucks.
