so i was just wondering if the rides break down like everyday? because the 1st time we went we got stuck on spaceship earth....then the other time we went we got stuck on spaceship earth, small world, transit authority & splash mountain.. splash mountain was the worst..it was an hour wait while they fixed watever was wrong. so i was just wondering if this happens everyday or if we just have bad luck. :veryconfu thanks!

If my memory serves me, I do believe every trip we have gone at least one of the major attractions has broken done each day. So I don't think its that uncommon by any means...

It's not uncommon for rides to temporary stop, or even break down once in awhile.

Also, some rides stop briefly to let parties, who need more time to board the ride, get on.

Yes rides stopping is common. With Omnimover rides like Spaceship Earth the whole ride stops for the most common reason of wheelchair transfers. On Splash Mountain and other boat rides the ride gets usually stuck because of the boat traffic.

I remember in 2007 that Thunder Mountain keep breaking down, they would get it back up & running & before we could get on the ride it would break down again.

As others have said, brief ride stoppages (especially on Omnimover attractions) are usually caused by slow loading/unloading Guests.

Other times ride-stoppages can be caused by Guests mis-behaving. I've heard from CMs that at least once a day in the busy season Splash Mountain will auto E-stop because a Guest (usually a kid) hopped out of the log and tripped a sensor or opened a door. And at least one emergency exit door exits out next to the backstage water resevoir. When *that* door is opened, all water pumps on Splash immediately shut down and the attraction is down for a while.

Lastly, automatic ride shut-downs are not necessarily the attraction "breaking", but rather it's just being safe. Like any piece of major machinery, the safest course of action is to be very cautious and shut down whenever a potential unsafe condition exists. Better to shut down and inconvenience people than NOT shut down and really hurt someone or do major damage to ride mechanisms.

For the past 3-4 trips, the Haunted Mansion has broken down while we were either in line or waiting for it.

We started saying there's now 1000 Happy Haunts cause the ride keeps "dying" :ROFLOL:

It does happen a lot. Funny but I never hear about attractions breaking down at Universal, and it's never happened on any of my trips there. At Disney, on the other hand, it happens way too often.

You've been on all these rides when they break down? Four in one trip???

It does happen alot but I suspect that most of the time it's not a 'breakdown' but rather a 'safety alert'. These rides have masses of sensors and if any of them trigger, it ride needs inspecting.... just incase.

I suspect the actual breakdown rate for each is quite low.

Oh cmon, now your just blatantly trying to start a argument on this board:)

I have been to disney before and a ride or two broke but I just got back from disney for a week and not once when I was there that a ride was shutdown or I got stuck. Not saying that there wasn't a ride that didnt break but nothing I rode and I ride everything at least once. Maybe luck maybe not.

Been to WDW twice now and only been on one ride that broke down. This was EE in 2007. My kids made me go on, although I was nervous, so when it stopped just in front of the yeti for about 15 minutes it wasn't good. EE seemed to be broken most of the day.

I am a bit disaapointed that SM is closed for refurb, was really looking forward to that. WDW does not have enough coasters so having one out in the peak summer season seems poor planning.

If they kept it open for the peak summer season, they'd have to close it for the even-more-peak-than-Summer-peak Spring Break season, and/or the even-WAY-more-peak-than-spring-break-peak Holiday season... For refurbs longer than a month or two, it has to be closed during SOME kind of a peak period... No way around it.

They do, i got stuck on ET, and duelling dragons was down most of the day, last time i went.

Oh I'm sure it happens (I wasn't saying that it NEVER does). I'm just saying it doesn't seem to happen nearly as much, even per capita (In other words, even if you factor in that Disney has a lot more attractions spread out over it's four parks, it still seems they have more breakdowns than Universal does). Also, in recent years, I've definitely spent as much time at Universal's parks as I have at Disney's parks and I've noticed ride breakdowns during every visit at Disney's... and none at Universal's. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But you just never seem to hear about it, even on these threads where so many people are bashing Universal so often. Just interesting.
