EPCOT Brazil is the frontrunner for a new World Showcase Pavilion

WS was designed to be an attraction environment. And to be filled out with twenty countries. Only eleven pavilions ever got build, and with only the less costly, sedate attractions.

But as by sheer accident, this WS as was left unfinished, worked in a different way. As a tranquil space that relies on zen and beauty. It works.

With three caveats. The drunkytown atmosphere destroys the zen of WS. The endless clutter and waterfront buildup ruin the tranquil beauty. And, as a kid, I admit I very much wished it would've had just one more ride. FW was wildly exciting, WS was too devoid of attractions.

I would accept both WS as is, or as a build up space. Although I am not too excited by the prospect of Toontown Boozeland, what I fear WS might become.

Whether or not Brazil is the new pavilion, the WS is going to need another D or E on that side of the pavilion (assuming it's somewhere between France and where EA was going to be built) to balance out the crowds.
Mexico- C
Norway- D (with stupidly long lines)
America- E
France- E(? or is this a D?)
UK- B (if it's a ride, no confirmation there other than it won't be a carousel or ferris wheel).

As long as it's the newest thing in the park, Frozen is going to have the longest lines in the WS. Rat should definitely help break the crowds up by Mexico, Norway and China, but it will create a crowd problem on the International Gateway side of the park. A people eating attraction is going to be needed in the new pavilion.

In thinking about that, I wonder if a ride isn't what's needed... maybe a larger-scale live show. The big live events at DHS eat crowds like crazy during the day. There's tons of small scale live shows going on all day; maybe a larger scale show with bleachers/seats (Mickey's Rio Carnival!) would be a daytime draw to eat big crowds & give them somewhere to sit.

Ugh....Aim low....LOL A big show like DHS Light Morors Action that can close in a few years... it would be another one and done... EPCOT needs a few rides to even it out... Shows too but not just shows...

So what I'm gathering is:

Future World opened as a shining beacon of Disney Magic, Innovation, and Creativity.
World Showcase was an aborted park concept that never really materialized in the way that it should have.
Along the way, Future World lost its way and likely won't be getting back on track in the near or even distant future. World Showcase morphed from a hollow, attraction poor area to the parks main draw and that was done without rides or adding more pavilions. It was done with festivals, shopping, dining and entertainment. Now, 35+ years later, many people think that Future World is dead and buried (not that I disagree), and that World Showcase is in dire need of a complete re-tooling when it's actually the only well-functioning part of the park? I get that people want to see something different out of WS, but it's actually the thing propping up the park now- to change it would be crazy. Future World clearly needs all of the attention right now. WS could sit unchanged for another 20 years and still draw a crowd.

I've already gone on record stating that I'd love nothing more than to see a dark ride in every single pavilion. Make it a C ticket for all I care. Throw stuff like Pinocchio and Peter Pan quality into each pavilion and I'd be a happy camper. Seriously, put a 50's/60's style smallish dark ride themed to an animated classic in every single pavilion and I'd probably live at EPCOT.

Still though, these are pipe dreams that never materialized, even during the Golden Age of EPCOT or whatever people want to call the 80's. It's not like WS has removed attractions.

I'm not sure why a live event would be "aiming low". Many of their live shows are big budget numbers that've been running and bringing in crowds for years. As I say, just a thought.

And that's why I also have doubts about a Brazil attraction. Correct me if I'm wrong, but WS is still largely sponsored. Frozen exists partially because Norway is no longer sponsoring their own pavilion and Disney wanted something newer there. If Brazil isn't going to commit to 10+ years of sponsorship, they're definitely not getting a WS pavilion.

The Rio Olympics happened because the money had been long set aside for the new stadiums, etc. Unfortunately it wasn't set aside for the infrastructure, manpower, or electricity to actually run the thing, so that's where the problems came in. Kudos to them for pulling it off on a shoestring.

A private company with ties to the country could also sponsor the pavilion.

Edit: Here's a list of the largest Brazilian companies. If it were to go this route, it would most likely be one of these:

Epcot will not be successful if only one half of the park is good. Both Future World and World Showcase have to be top quality. After the Future World renovations are complete it is likely that Future World will draw more crowds in and World Showcase will noticeably lacking. Crowds do not mean something is good and they often hide other flaws. By improving both World Showcase and Future World Epcot will be one of the strongest and best parks on site.

Another note, just because things never really pan out how we dream them to doesn't mean we shouldn't dream or set high targets. Setting higher and higher targets isn't just how Disney became the international entertainment empire it is today, but it's how humanity reached the point where all of us are conversing on this website. Dream big dreams for small dreams have not the magic to stir men's blood.

If there's an attraction tied to this, can I finally experience the excitement of waiting in line as a placeholder for 27 of my closest friends?

Los Angeles and Paris (the only two cities left in the bidding cycle) both have more than 90% of the venues and facilities already constructed. LA and Paris could host the games in 2020 and they would be great. They are massive cities with massive entertainment and sports infrastructure; global centers of it.
They both just happen to host a major Disney park, too... o-O Coincidence? Hmmm.

Wasn't trying to attack you here at all. Just pointing out that different people hear different things.

Your confusion might be coming from this...

Much like having Star Wars debut years before Florida and then opening the exact same things in, as you would say, the swamps."

If SWL in Anaheim is in 2019, then "years before", would mean that Florida's SWL would be at least 2021.

It was subsequently debated that Spirit's 'years later' was not literal and just based on his personal appraisal of Disney's track record in getting things done and not reliant on any insider information, if I'm characterizing this correctly.

They should theme it as Brazilians go to Disney World...so that as you enter, you hear the most popular chants Brazilian Tour Groups sing at WDW.

Before anyone gets offended, I'm Brazilian, I was a teenager in one of those groups so I can make fun of them. LOL
