Isn't the cost of animals that caused DAK to overrun budget originally?
No. To my knowledge DAK did not have significant budget overruns.

The park just spent hundreds of millions of dollars to build a single land. The cost of some animals is insignificant next to this and won’t be the deciding factor that prevents a new land.

I’ll also point out that relatively recently they acquired at least seven new kanagaroo for the park. I’m not saying Australia is or will ever happen I’m just pointing out that they can acquire the animals if necessary.

Wahhh??

Are you serial?

...the budget overruns are notorious across the entire industry.

The two most massively overbudget amusement parks in history are epcot and AK
Epcot yes. Well known.

Never seen or heard of anything significant for DAK beyond the expected.

My sources both inside and out have always indicated that the original $800 million budget was exceeded but the final cost stayed just under $1 billion

Yes
The cost of acquiring animals would not prevent Australia from being built.

Hopefully they won’t build Zootopia

Pretty sure that DAK budget issues are common knowledge. The reason we have Dinoland in it's current state and Beastly Kingdom cut

Budget issues were absolutely the reason things were cut. But not because of animal procurement. More an issue of an original budget that was too small for such an ambitious project and out of control spending.

Correct...the idea that eisner grew impatient and opened early due to the threat from IOA (universal was a badly run, near bankruptcy nightmare at that time) is a complete smokescreen...

The bills had gotten to Defcon 1.

Not only that...it lead to the half keister, budget conscious approach in dca, studios Paris, and Hong Kong...

That's some expensive real estate in Osceola county...just saying

The budget was double what was ever spent on a disney park to date...and they blew it out of the water.

Imagineering was out of control and Eisner had cut all the good Lts...no secret.

The place was a money pit.

Source for this?

Not doubting I’ve just never seen this number before.

If you want a published source - no joke - the Guiness book of world records. I don't think disney was ever happy with that as they did a lot of itemized accounting to cover that.

And I worked in TDO...it's not that big of a world and little is unknown.
