I'm excited about the long-overdue expansion of World Showcase to feature more countries but I do wonder about the appeal of a Brazil pavilion to Brazilian tourists. Would you really fly all the way to Orlando to see a replica of your own country? (I can understand the appeal of a Brazilian restaurant for those who might crave cuisine from back home, but does it really need its own pavilion?)

I still want the Matterhorn in World Showcase!
Technically they could put it in the Italy pavilion right now if they felt like it, though the Italian pavilion is already 90% Northern based.
Stick it in Germany and name it after a German mountain.

I think the best option would actually be to use the same basic concept/ride system (especially the "dueling" tracks) and make a Mt. Fuji coaster for Japan. Having that in the backdrop of the Japan pavilion would be impressive especially from across the lagoon. Instead of the Abominable Snowman, they could use a "monster" like Godzilla or some other Kaiju (or just avoid that concept entirely and use some cultural based show scenes).

A Matterhorn type ride would be a great compliment to what exists in Epcot and would have wide appeal -- those wanting more thrilling rides in the park, Disney nostalgia buffs, people who feel the WS pavilions are boring, etc. I think cloning a popular ride like that to another park is the most likely way we'd see a non-IP ride added to Epcot.

They want to keep the two pads east of Germany clear for now.
Future plans.

Well, that's interesting. My initial reaction to the placement between Italy and Germany was wondering why not putting it between Germany and China where there is the huge gap. It's reassuring if Disney is at least planning ahead in terms of their placement because they have other plans in the works for the future; sure they may never come to pass but I've been disappointed with how planning at WDW often seems ad hoc just relying on "the blessing of size" for the future without seemingly having a long term master plan.

This has already been covered...

On the point about Brazilians wanting to hang out in a Brazil pavilion, I agree it is not a huge draw in and of itself. It is a nice good will gesture, though, to a major market. As an Australian, I can tell you that no-one would be booking a trip to WDW to see an Australia pavilion at Epcot. Knowing my countrymen, though, I can say without doubt that Aussies would be chuffed to see Disney make a little miniature Australia at WDW and it would generate loads of free publicity for the resort which would result in more visitors. I suspect that would also be the case for Brazilians, with a far greater potential upside in terms of visitors.

The Africa outpost has been selling Brazilian flip flops for a few months now. Not that it means anything, but interesting still.

Havaianas has a store in Disney Springs and they are sponsoring D23 Expo, so I'm assuming they will sponsor at least part of the pavillion. Also, Havaianas is owned by JBS, which is a huge meat processing company (I think it's the largest in the world), so they could sponsor a Brazilian Steakhouse as well.

However JBS is involved in a corruption scandal in Brazil, so I'm not sure they will comit to that large investment, but we'll see...

I don't think that's the purpose. Like the other pavilions, I've always assumed the mission was to share the culture with us (people who are foreign to that country). I'm sure Brazilians will appreciate a nod to their culture and access to a steakhouse, but I'm sure it would be very overpriced.

Brazil is roughly the same size as the US, with a huge variety of different cultures, food, architecture and peoples.

Why would it not need a full pavilion? Especially considering there's zero representation of South America in WS

The boat link would have removed both the expansion pads in the south east corner.
Interesting. Ya don't think about so much space being needed, but I suppose it is?

I personally would have reworked the marina (re-themed/rearranged its layout) and used that waterway for the actual connectivity, with an entrance coming in behind the outpost area.

I've always worried about a DVC resort being crammed in using those two pads and other land back there since all the talk of an epcot dvc started a few years ago. I have no doubt they looked into it. But the infrastructure shuffling and access changes would be too big I would think. There is a horticulture warehouse back there still right?

There are resorts proposed, but not there.
