Rumor Brazil (and maybe others) Pavilion Coming to Epcot [not about Brazilian people nor a country wish list]

The two most likely European candidates (other than the big boogie man country) you would look at - Spain and Greece - are “euro shot”...

So there goes that idea.

Brazil would make a lot of sense on some level...but they’re also kinda despicable, aren’t they? I never saw them as a match for Disney. They send their 16 year olds there...great - Disney will take that. That doesn’t mean they necessarily want to strap themselves to the parent country.

I don’t for a second think they “cancelled” an announcement due to a recent rainforest fire...however there are US officials who have commented (in generalities) that they seem to believe that the government is “encouraging” the fires. It COULD BE a shield for them to deforest for development using a “natural disaster” as a front. That’s is so “modern authoritarian” thad it falls in line with the powder keg world insanity we have seen grow over the last 10 or so years.

It’s not the craziest idea I’ve seen.

I don’t think they’re worthy...to be honest. No matter what there population or corporate interests.

And that could be why there’s never been a South American pavilion. None are all that stable...there’s no “Switzerland” there that makes complete sense.

The pavilion that always makes the most sense - to me - is Australia/New Zealand. But that was made a little complicated after DAK as well.
Generally, I figure Disney doesn't care too much about the politics of the country as long as someone is willing to pay money and they figure the pavilion would be a net positive to the park's attendance and revenue. It is scenic, has unique and colourful culture that can be portrayed, and food and drink they can easily sell. Brazil is also a big market for WDW. So, I would have thought it worked as a pavilion.

I'm sure there are exceptions, though, and I do wonder whether there is some nervousness about the reputation of the Brazilian government at the moment. I don't think it's a case of whether Brazil deserves a pavilion any more than any other country, rather that the pavilions don't exist in a complete bubble from what's going on in the world whoever's paying for them. They have China there now, but you probably wouldn't have wanted to announce a China pavilion over the past few weeks.

My wife and I discussed just yesterday how the Internet and the advent of cheap travel killed the ideals and the want for a park such as EPCOT.

Unfortunately the technology that the park one day dreamed of is the technology that killed it.
On the surface I think this makes sense, but in practice it seems that World Showcase is the one part of EPCOT that still more or less works. Honestly, I think miniature versions of different countries are what most people think of when they think of EPCOT now.

I don't know why that is exactly. In part, I guess it speaks to how consuming now functions as entertainment and on some level WS has always been a fun concept mall. If anything, it's the fact that you can now buy reasonably authentic food and products from many countries in most major cities now makes WS less relevant.

People do also seem to just like the concept of miniature versions of real places, though. I live in The Hague, and the biggest attraction here seems to be Madurodam which is a miniature recreation of the Netherlands... already a miniature country if ever there was one.

That’s cold...
...I love it!!!😍

Epcot pavilions were built on sponsorship agreements with companies representing countries and American manufacturers in the late 70’s...those expired mostly in the early 90’s.

Why do I say this? Because they haven’t gotten close to new meaningful partnerships since.

The model is broken...that’s why they haven’t built a country in 30 years.

Why does imagination sit in squalor? Don’t think Kodak going bankrupt and delisting 15 years ago has something to do with it?
Guess again.

There’s a reason why Epcot is getting ip stuff beyond “Epcot is boring to be DD!!”

Have to peel the onion a little
Is this thread going to be locked since it wasn’t announced after all of the promises?
Can we start a Spain thread?

If there was a announcement being made, we would have seen Iger take the stage. Heck, he showed up to open the NBA Experience.

Okay, so for starters, Brazil would be the first South American pavilion.

Secondly, the culture there isn’t represented in other pavilions.

Thirdly, it’s the first pavilion in decades, so that alone is something to be excited about.
Three decades to be exact.

This is, was, and will continue to be the only thing until I’m proven wrong. And as I always say: I would love to be proven wrong. That’s serious.

But I don’t get people posting their “boo-boo” face complaints when something doesn’t happen? It’s just reality...why is the reality of how things go always considered “negative”?

No one promised anything.

At least no one who knew anything.
I think it pretty obvious what happened with Brazil...those contracts they were working on in the Spring of 2018 got burned in the fire 🔥

Well maybe not here...

But profiting off internet fandom has been a thing for decades

There was that guy from the “site I cannot say” or whatever it’s called that prances around Disneyland on e-money like it’s his pool house

That clown from interEPcot that pumped his sponsors like a gas station attendant.

And I’ve heard there’s even a board that’s a front for a really low grade travel agency...which allows the owner to prance around Disney world.

People profit off this stuff as they can...not a new story.
