I gotta be honest, I did think about what would happen to that room that he died in after my initial reaction. I mean, if he died in bed, you are sleeping ... well, where he died. Which is not germy as blood or drool or whatever, but it's just creepy to me. I think it's the right thing to remove the bedding, and I admit I thought about this.

I don't understand how it is 'the right thing' to do. I understand how you feel about it but it would seem an odd way to show respect or a right thing to do by going "eww" and throwing it out.

They don't remove seats or ride vehicles... a bed is a pretty natural way to go.

Regardless of all these little things in life that mean nothing...

I hope he went in peace as many children do. And I hope his family and he had a great appreciation for all the awesome things life can be, as many families who face these sorts of things do.

so, i can understand them changing & washing the sheets....but to throw the mattress completely away and getting a new one seems a bit much.

regardless, i hope the boy's passing occurred at the end of the trip so that he had the chance to enjoy the parks and have happy times with his family first. my thoughts are with the family. may he rest in peace.

I was commenting on the fact that in the face of someone's death at disney, the only thing you can think about is yourself?

Ok, so people might think to themselves, 'i wonder what happens to the bedding'. But to actually take that one step further and ring up a company and ask if they've destroyed the sheets is, in my opinion, utterly unbelievable.

It's so disrespectful, so selfish and so incomprehensible to me, that I genuinely can't believe you've done such a thing.

I can't believe that posts like this exist...disputing or discussing if age 16 is still considered a child??!! So far most of the posts for this topic have made assumtions that can't be proven and have ranged as far as arguing whether WDW or DL is the happiest place on earth- ridiculous! Who gives a crap about that? A 16 year old boy died- it doesn't matter where or how or under what circumstances- it is a tragedy plain and simple. The comments to this topic should have stopped a long time ago.

PLEASE tell me you are not disagreeing with my post, but the one I quoted. :lookaroun

As for changing the mattress... does anybody know what happens when a person dies? Hospitals use plastic coated ones for a reason, WDW will not be able to clean that mattress effectively; sheets can be washed and sterilized.

That was not my first thought. Here is the order of my thoughts:

1. that is so sad
2. I feel SO bad for his family
3. 16 is way too young to die
4. no parent should ever have to bury their child
5. at least he had a Disney trip to go on
6. what fun he must have had on his last days at WDW
7. at least he did not suffer - going in his sleep
8. the article said it happened at POR
9. my family will be staying there later this month
10. how can they properly disinfect the mattress?
11. will my children be safe?
12. I will post my sadness of the situation and my question
13. not much response
14. I want to keep my family safe so I will call and ask
15. I think I will share this info with others

When I am not sleeping 6 hours a day I am serving others all day long. I am not selfish, just a concerned parent. A hospital bed can be wiped down with disinfectant because they are plastic. But, a regular mattress is not and thus cannot be properly cleaned. A decomposing body poses a safety hazard. I do not feel thinking of the safety of my family is a selfish after thought, after thinking of this tragic loss for this family. We all have our opinions though. I will not flame you for yours like you did to me.

To a post a few pages back: I don't think they remove ride vehicles or seats when a death occurs but I do believe they remove any indication of which car it is. I first heard this when the death on RnRc occurred they removed any indication of which car it was so guests could not refuse/request to ride in this car. Maybe this is incorrect but something I was told.

As for the boy, very sad news and thoughts are with the family.

HEAVEN FORBID!

think of the children!

Think of all the rotten flesh that would have made its way deep into the mattress after a whole night of death!

Oh my, what next? People eating KFC on the bed??? Think of the meat on the mattress. Let's disinfect it before we even look at it.

What if the parents touched the child and then touched the door, the tap, the trees, the air. Oh my!

This is why we live in cotton wool world that has developed.

Do you have any idea how many rooms are at Riverside? Over 2,000. What do you think the chances are you will get this exact same room.

Safe? Safe from what? My lord, do you have any idea of the things that happen on hotel mattresses and you're worried about someone dying in their sleep? Then to call the resort and ask them? Sorry - That's just nuts.
