bottle opener confiscated

I'm fully aware it can't be fired and know the difference between a bullet and a shell case, but not everyone does. We live in the uk where guns aren't as easy to get as in the states, my wife for instance wouldn't have a clue about the difference between a spent round and a live one. I'm not going to debate the rights or wrongs about firearms as that's a separate discussion, however your reply makes me think you know a bit about guns etc. To you it may seem alien or stupid, but somebody showing what looks like a bullet (even without a gun) and saying something menacing could upset somebody not used to weapons.

The chances of it happening are very remote and it doesn't bother me one bit whether somebody takes in it or doesn't, I'll lose no sleep over it. My explanation over why it wasn't allowed in was just a reply to the op who seemed confused as to why it wasn't allowed in, I was just providing a possible answer rather than debating the technical attributes of firearms or ammunition.
And that is why I said - Ignorance is the world we live in. I wasn't trying to debate just supporting your point. Sorry if it came across differently.

Innocuous keychain that couldn't hurt anyone confiscated and yet they let these in by the boatload...

Indeed entire scenario could have been avoided by me walking past the check....my family steered that way for some reason. Long story. Lol

I have no issue with them confiscating it. It is their prerogative on what they allow in the park or not. It is your choice to continue to want to go in under their restrictions.

Did they give you an option to take it back to your resort or vehicle? Or, did they just take it without any other option?

It would appear they gave him the option, yes.

thought you guys would get a good chuckle.

the bottle opener attached to my key chain (that has been in the parks dozens of times) got confiscated at AK this morning. its an old 308 shell casing with the bottle opening section cut out.
i get it no guns ect ect but an inert novelty? i elected not to return to my car because thats a hassle and its a 5 dollar bottle opener. thus i handed it over :arghh:
security had to call a supervisor to make the call and she didn't even know the policy they had to explain it to her.:cool::cool:

we always here about the security scares so i figured you all would enjoy mine.

edit for theatrics: the security gentleman compared it to brass knuckles...

And I have to say....oh well. Back in 2013, we were at WDW the week after some chucklehead was able to get through security and left his pistol on Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom.

I had a Mophie cell phone case with a hip holster....they saw the bulge on my side and asked me to raise my shirt, thinking it was a gun.

And yet, no one was shot or killed by the "chuckle head". Guess he wasn't a terrorist. Security is only as good as the technology and people you pay for. Otherwise it's whatever is the minimum required for insurance and liability purposes.

The real issue here is security. If those morons can't figure out that the key chain is not a threat and should be ignored, how should we trust them to be able to identify what is a real threat and take appropriate action?

Furthermore the "supervisor" a non security dressed CM didn't even know the policy the security guard had to explain it to her in front of me.

And yes I was given the option to trek back to the car....my times worth too much sorry.

I can't believe all the fuss about them not wanting something that looks like a weapon in the parks.

It's not a weapon nor does it look like one? A bullet is not a weapon even a real bullet is harmless by itself. No more dangerous than a small rock. I have no issue with the item being inspected but once it was determined to be a bottle opener and something that could never be fired from a rifle it should have ended there. You act as if this "weapon looking thing" was some massive item the entire guest population would have panicked over when in reality it's a tiny piece of metal on a key ring with house keys and volkwagen fob...i can't see the fuss about people not know what is and isn't a weapon. Or even something that looks like a weapon. This was neither.

This is TWDC where they have an irrational fear of ray guns but you could line a stroller with things that go boom and they'd probably never notice.
