Boston Marathon Bombings

Disney will review its policies, for a little while they will staff more security (both uniformed and plain clothes) and monitor the banks of cameras that are hidden throughout the park even closer for a bag that is left unattended even for a moment. The average guest will notice nothing different, but I am certain that Disney will be extra vigilant the next week at least....

We have always viewed Disney World as a safe place, and for the most part it is. An event like the Boston Marathon is much harder to control then a Disney park. Even still, I suspect that short term they will give the appearance of a greater security presence, while long term more security will happen behind the scenes.

It was such a tragedy to turn on the TV and find out this happened.

What sick, twisted person would do such a thing?

I don't think it will effect the parks in anywhere, but I'm sure there will be more security. I heard that they're adding more security in New York encase something like this happens there.

With all due respect to the victims, there's no reason to have a knee-jerk reaction.
i would tend to disagree. While something like this won't happen for a second day in a row, it doesn't mean people won't think it will. So because people are worried, the addition security will put the people at ease (if only a tiny bit), and will also lead to people not being in a rush out of the parks there for allowing disney to sell more stuff.

I understand that people are worried about their vacation but if your first instinct is to wonder about the parks over the actual victims, I'm going to wonder about your priorities in life all around.

The mere act of terror committed by some coward is just trying to get you to live your life in fear.
Dont. Just live your life.

The explosions were heard at my house. The utter confusionof it was just overwhelming. I had loved ones driving through the tunnel and not knowing where the explosions had fine off at first was terrifying. As tough as us Bostonians are, this will etch a deep scar. But I guarantee next year, patriots day will have a whole new meaning here and it will be the biggest and most attended marathon. The streets are eerily still now but not for long. My thoughts and sympathy for all thoseaffected

I work only a few minute walk from where the bombs went off, and had friends who had just finished the marathon... People don't realize that Patriots Day is such a unique holiday in Boston, with the city just full of spectators, families, tourists and runners... Sadly it is the perfect soft target.

Thoughts and prayers are with all involved, and i hope that they quickly can find the lunatic that caused this.

Just got back from my commute on Boston's MBTA (subway.) While Copley Station (directly below the bombing site) is dark, it was business as usual. I left early expecting some delays or bag checks (these have been done at random since 9/11) but there was no added security anywhere that I could see.

By no means am I meaning any praise on the despicable person or persons involved, but this was the perfect day to do something like this. To the uninitiated, the Boston Marathon is held on Patriot's Day (a state holiday) and it more or less shuts down the city. Traffic is re-routed along the entire marathon route and public transportation is a must. Add in the fact that an 11 AM Red Sox game is part of the tradition and you now have 10s of thousands of people in a public area that's very difficult to secure.

In terms of how this effects Disney, I suspect that it means that true nighttime entertainment at Downtown Disney is less likely. There were rumors a while back about a World of Color type show - something like this would be a large draw with no entry fee.

Unfortunately extremists/terrorists/evil will look to exploit areas of weakness, so we as a society need to identify these areas of weakness before they do. I know Disney takes security very seriously, and I know it's more than just the facade that we see (bag checks). Yes, it could happen in Disney, but I would certainly feel more safe there than I would at pretty much any other public venue.

Security is never perfect. Do not be swayed into a false sense of security. It is up to all of us to stay alert. Too many people at Disney properties for any security to be airtight. People will not put up with an hour to get through security to enter a theme park. No amount of laws will protect us, paper is insignificant, and useless. Rely upon yourselves for your safety. Stop being sheep. Be adults, see something odd, report it.

I'd imagine security will be beefed up everywhere.

Here in Pittsburgh, there's already reports of the Pittsburgh Marathon (may 5th) being padded with 350 extra security guards than initially anticipated.

I can't... I just can't even.. It's things like this that make me want to be a hermit and have no part of society.

Well that is why more and more dinsey movies in the vault are on blu ray.

Thats not a real fair comment. Because you yourself most likely think of what your doing above other random people dying(because it happens everyday.) While it was a tragedy for 3 people to die, its not any more of a tragedy then 3 other random people dying. People of course are scared(as am I) with how it happend, but thats reasonable.

Pretty lucky to have that number so low considering the amount of damage it has done and the amount of people in critical condition. Had the Triage tent not been right there...that casualty number would've been in the dozens...

A bag left unattended? Have you seen the OCEANS of strollers/bags left unattended in the stroller parking areas in the parks? Heck, sometimes tour groups will leave a huge pile of overstuffed bacpacks in a pile outside of an attraction while they ride. There are literally too many to count.
