Alexa's success with consumers is threefold:

1. Its easy
2. Its cheap and everywhere
3. It works with nearly everything

Tell me again which of those line items is a business plan for revenue ?

You’re not wrong - but none of that speaks to the concern the business has. Which is they’ve spent like drunk sailors with no viable plan for the paying the rent…. And there is a new landlord.

The past model for devices is not sustainable as theh have been operating.

Its definitely going to be about cutting costs, making Disney+ profitable, repairing relationships, improving perceived value, and restoring trust in the company.

Another angle: some portion of the paranoia the street developed over streaming is absolutely their own making. They didn't hold Netflix to account for what? A decade? Being worried about their business models NOW is coming a little late.

If anyone was going to be able to convince the street that their own perceptions were radically off, it's Bob Iger. Chapek never had the authority or experience to pull that off.

The amount spent was peanuts in the end. This isn't black and white.

Indeed. I certainly understand not liking Turning Red, but I don't get the line of argument that it was alienating because it was about Chinese-Canadian women. As neither Chinese, Canadian, nor a woman, I didn't find anything in Turning Red that was too specific or niche for me to understand and I feel like I have seen many movies that aren't about Australian men living in The Netherlands.

And that's not even counting the shared experience of certain groups. With half of my family being Puerto Rican, I and much of my family loves My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Despite not being Greek, the aspects of the experience easily translate into Latin, Italian, Asian, Middle-Eastern, any culture that's come to America (or Canada). Just sub-in Vicks for Windex, Angel for Nicholas, and swap flags on the invites. Many people can see themselves in the work by seeing parallels to their own lives, the shared experiences we have.

They can only make so many Star Wars and Marvel shows before people stop caring, seems they've reached that point.

Many are saying Andor is the best Star Wars work since Empire and I haven't seen anyone who didn't fall in love with the bundle of joy that was Ms. Marvel.

Amazon - Draw people in with free 2-Day shipping, keep them around with free 2-Day shipping, doesn't matter what anyone watches.

I was very fortunate. 15 years ago, my uncle told me to definitely sign up for a special offer Amazon was doing that got you free Prime for life. I didn't know why I'd ever need to buy something and if it was, shipping would be a paltry few bucks. But it's definitely reaped benefits now.

Disney+ - I get the vault, but that's for people with kids. Zoomers and younger Millenials are likely to join and quit. DWTS was a great addition.

I would think people of those ages would be kept by nostalgia with backlog of shows and films they grew up on. We'd spoken earlier about the surprise of how many older single subscribers they picked up.

The only FX show we watch is Wrexham. My wife watches Handmaid's Tale. Outside of that FX is very scary/creepy lol. We prefer period shows, historical (Vikings, etc), action, comedy, etc. FX is weird most of the time.

Archer?

Also, did anyone specifically pay separately for Hulu and D+? Although I suppose the bundle wasn't available in all countries.

And spending probably $2.0B or more in the process. Plus, Galaxy's Edge may look nice but two rides don't do justice, especially when one seems to have downtime issues.
since the news broke about iger, i was thinking (more like hoping) if he want to go out with some kind of bang, announce an expansion of galaxy’s edge based off the original triology with a few rides. i’m sure it’ll make fans happy. i know i would be.

I was watching all this news on a short CNN spot. Suddenly, out of nowhere, this quote I know popped into my head:

"When the Gods what to punish us,...they answer our prayers...."

I can't get into Andor. I'm not a spy or a traumatized orphan or a convict or a rebel bringing down a fascist regime run by some space wizards. It's so niche. No one can really identify with the character, therefore, there's just a handful of people it's targeted toward. So niche!

Well as a rebel who was traumatized when I was orphaned, I can't get into it either.

It is when all the promises of pull through aren’t panning out the customers behavior doesn’t do as promised. You keep ignoring the scrutiny that comes along with a new boss.

They are losing nearly 10 billion THIS YEAR in that division… that is not scale you just bury with hand waving… especially promises that have already had time to play out.

I didn't buy into the whole "representation matters" thing until I really thought about it and realized that most of the media I consume features people like me. By which I mean, of course, fascistic space wizards.
