When your gender skew is primarily male who are the main ones posting online which then causing a churn of more people joining, its not a surprise but the gender skew is a major factor in perception of value per streaming service...

Peacock has decided to focus on Bravo shows and true crime which attracts a lot of women compared to Disney which focuses on fandom things which brings in a lot more males.

That really surprises me. My guess is that they get relatively more female traffic for "single view" offerings like Disney / Pixar movies and holiday specials, but that most of their series attract male viewers. They seem to skew more heavily towards Marvel / Star Wars and action adventure shows in that area. On the positive side, it seems like they could easily grow their female viewership with a little effort.

They're basing that on social media posting?

Umm... okay.

I now believe Iger has come back to get Apple to buy Disney. The deal of all deals to cement his legacy

For the movie and media side I can see it being great but it makes me very nervous about the parks

And the resorts, and the cruise lines, and the timeshares, and ABC, and the cable stuff and the merchandise and a bunch more I'm forgetting...

Does anyone think Apple is so concerned about AppleTV that they'd buy Disney over it?

It's an inconsequential part of their business other than the prestige stuff which is only about brand.

Disney stopped doing prestige when they got rid of Miramax.

Even with everything Disney has, the profits added to the company would pale in comparison to their traditional business.

The only two reasons I can see why anyone would think Apple would be interested in Disney are 1) Apple is one of the few companies out there with the cash on hand to possibly buy them outright if they actually wanted to and 2) A lot of people that like Disney also like Apple so they would like to see this happen.

Those are very weak reasons for Apple to make a bad decision with their money, if you ask me.

Stranger things have happened - like what went down this weekend - but I don't understand why Apple would want to own the mouse.

Are they still deleting tripe from the first 30 pages? I swear that every time I return to this thread, every post has moved back a page.

Besides that... I didn't accumulate any quotes this time making it to the end. Is it over? Am I free?

Originally, D+ was going to be for the niche family market. Then D+ blew through its four year projection in one month. Both Bobs were astounded that over half of the D+ subbers were households without children.

And so, they pivoted. D+ wasn't going to be a 2 quadrant streamer, but a 4 quadrant. So, they started to put more mature content on D+. Added a child lock. Decided to eventually merge D+ with Hulu rather than have them go after different markets.

This made them adjust their goal to be one of the big streamers after the streaming wars were over.

And those who were subbed to D+ were telling them in surveys that they wanted more "general audience" (i.e. 'adult') content.

So, D+ (along with the eventual Hulu merger) will be a 4 quadrant streamer.

Recommending them to double down on going back to being a niche market streamer is crazy.
Well now Kareem has been ousted. Will D+ be niche again or not?

Gender skew does not measure children properly. This chart is broken.

I feel like this rumor has been swirling around for at least a decade. I don’t see it happening. Curious to hear @Sirwalterraleigh thoughts
I don’t think that’s the play…not yet. Apple is the most likely dance partner…but the appetite for that kinda headache provably isn’t great for either side as it stands. It would be one of the largest mergers ever…and the ghost of aol still hangs over that world 25 years later.

I Would like to see what shareholders do if they did try to sell themself? I wonder if there would be any kind of a proxy fight?

Children are always over exaggerated when it comes to driving purchasing power. That was true in the 20th century…but kids don’t want physical “stuff” to the level that they did. Toys are dead.

They want digital media and connectivity in easily digestible forms. Which is the premise of the D+ push. The problem is there is way too much competition in that space.

From what I’ve observed, kids don’t really rely on major Hollywood studios to get their snippets of diversions. That was the miscalculation by Iger and co. It’s not that they aren’t loyal to the Disney brand…they just don’t really need a brand.

All this is unfolding. I have always thought/stated that a world where everyone is on D+ daily was a silly premise…and that’s what he sold. And it got chapek fired this week.

It wouldn’t make much sense. At 70 years old with a net worth of a billion…what would selling for Apple really do for Bob Iger?
Personally legacy wise selling DIS to AAPL does nothing but in terms of legacy perception right now is DIS is in trouble between P&R being in the state their in, D+ losing 1.5 billion & all the other political mess they got their hands dirty with Iger comes in basically fixes to stabilizes the mess he started he is hailed a “hero” which would be comical but if he brings back some goodwill for starters he will have all the pixie dusters on board immediately then he can tackle Wall St and by entertaining offers especially from AAPL it could be the mega merger noone ever fathomed was possible…
