I'll be curious of the subs on the Ad level, and how much money that generates for Disney+.
From a trade article, conversion of D+ subs from premium to ads is about 6%. Which is similar to other streamers' premium to ads conversions.

That number might be a bit suppressed by Disney's war with Roku which won't carry the ad tier because of disagreement of profit sharing.

Anyhoo... same trade article claims that ad tier is more profitable for a streamer because they're still getting some sub money and ad money on top of that.

I'd say an impact, too, are people like me who renewed their annual plan before the increase so effectively paying an annual price for the ads and getting the premium for one more year.

Our status won't fall off until November so at that point, there could be some people dropping to ad or canceling... or maybe it won't make much difference at all or maybe Disney will pull a targeted offer out of their behinds for people like me if we go to cancel to string us along for yet another year.

Or maybe @Joel will find another workaround and and not share it with us until it's too late, again - who knows?!

How about this: Netflix buys Fox Corp. from the Murdochs, allowing the combined Netflix/Fox to buy 20th Century Studios from Disney.
You can come up with scenarios all day about how Disney sells off it's formerly Fox studios, but that doesn't make it ever likely to happen.

Current Disney management just made a case why the Fox purchase added value to the company. And even if Peltz gets elected to the Board, he's just one vote among eleven.

It just won't happen because no one in charge is going to let it happen.

Even Peltz knows it's a done deal. He wants a ~$30BN write down, not a spin off for Fox.

ESPN on the other hand...

Why is everyone suddenly so hell-bent on Disney selling fox? As if Disney’s financials are crumbling and it’s the only option?

Fox was a smart purchase. The end.

I would agree with that statement if they actually did more with it. The point of getting Fox was for content. They should be putting the older Fox content on D+.

Fox was bought for the European infrastructure so that D+ can be taken internationally.

Secondly, it was for controlling share of Hulu.

Thirdly, for its several TV and movie studios to make content for D+ and theatrical release.

Fourthly, for 20th Century and Searchlight to make adult and award-winning movies (which was something Disney was missing).

And finally, for its back catalogue to put on the streamers and raid its IP for future content.

Bonus: Fox Marvel was reunited with Disney Marvel; and Fox distribution rights of early Star Wars was reunited with Disney's LucasFilm distribution rights.

Bonus: Talented execs at Fox now working for Disney.

The parts of Fox that Disney doesn't need has already been sold off (sports networks) or written off (European linear channels were thrown out) or consolidated. There's nothing extraneous to sell.

Or, as Disney put it in its warring Slide Decks:

I am not disagreeing with any of that. I figured by now there would be more older content on D+.
