Walt Disney would have fired the entire lot of them.

Basing company decisions on "What would Walt do?" in the 70s and 80s nearly destroyed the company.

Walt Disney has been dead for 56 years. Speculating what he would think about particular people he never met, in a world he never knew, complete with its dramatically different culture and business environment, doesn't bring anything constructive to this conversation.

I don't see McCarthy as a serious candidate at all. Saying she's in the top 5 or so of people currently there isn't an incredible compliment given who's left. And who really thinks we'll see Iger pass the baton to another unlikeable bean counter.

If anything I see this as trying to prop her up as a CEO candidate somewhere else. Less blood all around if she leaves voluntarily.

Disney CEO McCarthy? Terrible idea.

First off, she’s a professional bean-counter and would be terrible choice to lead an imagination company and secondly, she said we all need to lose weight. If she’s CEO, I’m no longer a customer. I’ll take my fat a$! somewhere else.
She’s actually much worse than a bean counter. She’s an unlicensed bean counter that ran banks

There is a rumor Chapek used to say this to Imagineering heads and it was tremendously unpopular.
It's "The Walt Disney Company" not IBM. Even Iger knows that. A lot of the company's "Soul" is still today from the stuff that Walt Disney and company created. Those "Traditions" are still very important and relevant to the company, even today. It really makes it more complex with the reasons you stated.

Just a quick comment on yesterday’s conversation here that I was reading about bad burgers in WDW.. well for the most part I agree except for D-Luxe which I find very good. I just ate the Main Street burger at The Plaza and it was excellent. So… there’s 2 places for a good burger now. Sorry for the interruption.. continue. 😃
…why did you feel it necessary to bother us?🤓

From Deadline:

CFOs are key managers but more often than not low profile, working behind the scenes, emerging during earnings season and the occasional investor conference. Rarely do they take center stage, especially in the heat of battle leading the troops into a messy ouster of their boss — and rarer still do they become a king killer.

Would that make her Scar? 🦁

I'm not sure she'll actually get the job. We knew she (along with D'Amaro–sorry @Sirwalterraleigh) were being considered. But they were also considered to be not-quite-ready (hence ol' Iger coming back).

I've noticed a common storyline in lots of "news" articles about this: that Iger was never really a huge fan of Chapek or sure about his readiness to lead the company. This seems strange to me, since I was under the impression that Iger picked and promoted Chapek. Maybe it's just spin-writing a new narrative. But interesting nonetheless.
No one working at Disney is qualified to run disney next.

Let’s just put this one to bed. We just saw the “best candidate” fail miserably…so it’s time for the bullpen.

Remember: the last “internal” ceo was Ron Miller…and Diane was 4 months pregnant at the wedding (true…in fact)…

Eisner came from the outside…so did Iger…

Let’s not pretend that there is some “fountain of knowledge” in the basement of the dwarf building.

New perspective is super needed anyway.

Well if you say Iger came from the outside, then so did Dana Walden.

I hear you. But I also know there are disgruntled and frustrated people a few steps down the totem pole who love the company and have big ideas for how to get things back on track.

I agree with you on the need for the CEO to be a figurehead who at least APPEARS to be creative.

Jumping on to say: I know where the best burger is on property, but I ain’t sayin, cause I’ll have to wait in line forever… and I’m afraid the new CEO will make it a 1/4 pounder instead….

…I was thinking more Brutus or Cassius…

Which means she better not take the “Phillipi” exit on the 405
