Birmingham, Al meet and greet with George (ASJHLJ)

I know that some of the regular posters on this site live in and around Birmingham, Al and I like meeting WDWmagicers in person (well, I've only met one but it went well, so I'm extrapolating out). Anyhoo, I'm gonna be attending a meeting in Birmingham from 3/2-3/4. I'll be staying in the DoubleTree hotel that is right next to the UAB campus. On the 4th I could arrange to meet people for lunch. I know this may be hard since the 4th is a Tuesday, but it's the only time I think I could do it. I wanted to drive to this event, but my employer (Purdue University) really discourages driving on business. Anyhoo, if I had been able to drive I'd be a lot more flexible. Let me know if you can make it. My goal is to set the WDWmagic Alabama meet and greet record.

EDIT: Let's change the probable meeting time to 3/2, midafternoon. I was kind of dumb for not thinking of that up front. Obviously, Sunday afternoon would be a better time.

Hard record to beat... We had two members last June in Huntsville! :lookaroun

Sadly, I won't be joining you. But good luck! :D

(And i spent a few moments trying to figure out who "Al" was that also likes meeting WDWMagic members! :rolleyes:)

I just realized, I could work things out and meet people on Sunday

You know, I just realized I haven't booked my flight yet and I could arrive early on Sunday. Probably not by lunch time, but mid afternoon. I don't have an official activity until 6 in the evening. I won't have wheels so I'll probably confined to the hotel lobby. I could take a cab to another spot. Our 6PM activity is a dinner at some local botanical gardens so that is another potential spot I could meet people on Sunday (I could just arrive early for dinner).

:ROFLOL:I had you in mind when I mentioned breaking the record. I'm actually not so sure it will that easy to beat. It's hard to work things out when one is somewhere for a short period of time.

Seriously though, Tuesday's are not good for me either. It takes me over an hour to get there. Hope you have a good time in Dixie though!

Hi guys, I wish I could make it too but we will be out of town.

TwoTigersMom, my parents live in Anniston. We are in Alex City, close to your tigers!:lol: Too close for my DH, who is a huge Alabama fan. :)

When I was little, I spent almost every weekend at our place on the river in Guntersville. I learned how to water ski there, a long time ago! I have lot's of great childhood memories from there.

didnt you have one last time you were in town and i was going to try and make it but somehting with work prevented me from attending.... and i think Harry and Vernon might have come? :confused:

hey, there is a Starbucks right across the street from the DoubleTree downtown. if not that sunday, maybe breakfast. if lunch on sunday is doable, Jim N Nicks is right up the street and it is superb Bar B Que! i live 2 or 3 minutes from downtown..... WAIT. that is when our baby is due! :lookaroun i might be busy.

Naw. A long time ago I metioned to Harry that I come to Birmingham every two years like clockwork so you might be thinking of that. I hope Harry or Vern notices this thread cuz I would love to meet them as well.

I'll bother our secretary next week and try and get a flight that has me arriving early on Sunday. Usually, I take the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, but I have waited on that thing for ridiculously long periods of time before, so maybe I'll take a cab if we have an early afternoon Sunday lunch lined up.
