Biggest ripoff at WDW?

Nothing.

I go to WDW knowing full well what to expect pricing-wise and accept it going in. I'm not being ripped off at all.

Balloons. I have never bought one at Disney, but if I paid $10 for a Disney balloon to have it deflate just like any other balloon, I'd feel ripped off. $5 is what I'd pay for one.

Almost everything else is just average for a theme park or worth it because it is Disney. Few minor exceptions to what I would purchase for certain amount of money, but I don't feel they are ripoffs.

I don't really feel ripped off by anything at Disney. I bring my own bottled water, my own laundry soap, ponchos from home, etc. because I know what to expect there. I think around $8-9 for a meal with the topping bar is a good deal if comparing it to a McDonald's meal which I don't like anyway. Last time I went to my local theme park and a zoo I remember saying about food/water, "Wow, these prices are higher than disney!"

The only time I felt ripped off is at Universal when we had to rent a locker to ride a ride because they wouldn't let me take a very small camera bag around my neck and shoulder. Their express pass is a rip too, at least Disney's fast pass has been free.

If your "Careful" with your money nothing is really that Expensive.. Other than the icecream who pays 6.75 for a popsicle I could get about 10 for that price, it's outrageous.

While I expect it, food at any theme park is just way out of wack. They would sell far more of it (snacks especially) if prices were even 20% lower. For those WDW regulars planning a 1st trip to DL, beware....soda prices are even higher out there (by almost a buck)!

How about nothing? I don't get to visit wdw as often as I used to so I always try to make the most out of my trip. Yes it's expensive, but I saved for this trip and I'm going to do it they way I want and make the most out of it! It's a vacation, relax and enjoy!

I don't know why so many people are getting offended that some people think certain things aren't worth the price that Disney charges. Disney has every right to charge what they do, and we can choose whether or not to pay for it. I was just curious as to what people consider those things that they'd never pay for.

To the people who think $85 for a 9a-5p day at Animal Kingdom, have you ever actually purchased a one-day WDW ticket? No. You buy six-day tickets or whatever and it works out to being $50.00 (on average) to experience DAK. It's like complaining that 50 cents is a ripoff for a single crayon when you can get a box of 12 crayons for $1.50.

The monorail. It's old, slow and antiquated. WDW would not be able to run the system without the heavy subsidy it gets from soaring ticket prices and other exorbitant fees. It has never been able to pay its own way and now its just a money pit.

The ones that light up now are $20....That's really a rip off!

LOL I know - people complain about food prices, but I find them very comparable to what I'd pay at home, and a lot less than most other Entertainment venues I've been to before. You can spend $15 bucks on a hot dog and a soda some places. I'm sure part of it is which part of the country you are from, but I think largely the shock is in simply having to purchase so many meals out, not the prices of the meals themselves when you really look at them.

That said, I think I'd call those "Playmation" things or whatever they are called - those little collectable dolls - the biggest rip off at WDW, IMO. You buy this little box for $10 and you don't know what's inside? I know they are traded, but still - there must be some rares/not so rares, and I can't imagine people buying these and repeatedly opening them just to find a specific one. At $10/whack, I am astonished - not to mention the fact I find them kind of ugly to begin with.

I also think the Monorail toys are vastly overpriced for the junk they actually are. I was so happy to finally get a set with some accessories a few months ago, and my thrill was very short lived. They are just junk. Cheap plastic, poor construction, quality control issues up the butt - it's truly the only thing I've ever purchased at WDW and been extremely disappointed in.

Staying on property is the most out of whack with reality. You can easily get a nicer room, similar amenities, and shuttle transport without paying Disney resort prices.

Absolutely. And I think the "amenities" of staying on property are often made out to be more than they actually are. For the price of a moderate, you can have a four-bedroom condo with private heated pool and jacuzzi just a few miles away. Or for half the price of the rack rate at a Deluxe for an actual deluxe hotel (which Disney doesn't really offer, even in it's supposed "concierge" rooms).

I'm very happy for those that enjoy it, but I can spend far less and get far more just a couple of miles away, and I rarely turn back. I used to be a big "on property" person, but to be honest at this point I actually like going a couple of miles away each night, and I've found 90% of the time I get where I want to go quicker, or MUCH quicker, than any "sit, wait, and pray" WDW Bus. I'm a lot happier - a lot more relaxed - yet able to do just as much, if not more.

The resorts, specifically, the Deluxe ones. Disney has priced me out. $400 per night to stay at any Deluxe Resort that holds 5 people to a room???

In case anyone is interested, in the past 20 years, Disney resort prices have increased 100%.

well gas prices in the last 20 years have increased 300% in 1991 they were $1.14 and now they are over $3.70 where I live

Don't have any problems with anything. I guess if I can't afford it I don't call it a rip off.

We know what we like and we buy those things and eat at the places we can afford.

We save for our vacation, so we know what budget we have to stay within.

And your point is?

Certainly you can see the point, but instead you're choosing to be rude?

As for the topic, there's nothing that I'm upset about in terms of being ripped off. Probably the closest I've gotten to that was Mickey's Christmas party, I left that feeling like it wasn't worth the extra admission cost. Still, I was glad to had at least tried it once.

OK - I'm guessing you don't have a little girl. You see, any little girl will NOT get jealous :). They will whimper, look at Daddy with tears in their eyes, and explain very clearly why Daddy doesn't love them... unless THEY get to go to BBB :).

This was Marketing BRILLIANCE on Disney's part - there isn't a Daddy on Earth that could survive the tears of his little daughter :).

My thoughts exactly!!! I'm just surprised they did'nt do something like that sooner! We've done it quite a few times having two girls....My oldest did it when it first came out , and this was for her birthday, we did the whole sha -bang, the makeup, dress pics you name it we did it...The look on her face when they turned her around to look at her "newly transformed self" In the mirror....Absolutly Priceless!! Expensive....Oh yes, but we knew that , its Disney, what is'nt!....And yes trips after that we did the simpler modified version, bring our own disney dress and just get hair and makeup...But that being said, they are over it(I think, LOL) now they ask to be pirates!!!! But I would do it again in a heart beat.....I do wish it was more affordable , I can't imagine going with more than 2 girls what it costs and we've seen that alot!

I think it's a victim of it's own success. I went to one of the earliest ones (around 1985 - 1988 or so? ) and it was certainly worth the money back then- although my husband wasn't 100% convinced. But some people think paying for anything they can get cheaper elsewhere is a rip-off, and don't factor in convenience or uniqueness.
