Big Thunder Rumour

Stop hating the Captain!

Don't for a second think they would actually remove Jack fron PotC.
CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow is 1000x more popular and more well known than, say the auctioneer, and I'm sure the auctioneer isn't going anywhere. CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow is also responsible for the highest grossing Disney film so far.
I gaurantee Captain Jack has a bigger fanbase than most of the classic characers.

Tell you what... Ask any child who they would rather have at their Birthday, school fair, or just talk to and/or take pictures with.. Captain Jack Sparrow or (insert any other Disney character). Then tally the votes and see who wins by a landslide.

Just leave the attraction alone! There's nothing wrong with it! They could spend that money on closing SGE or Giving some rides a refurb that NEEDS a refurb!

They could spend some of that money on getting on board audio on Space Mountain

There are several plans for a BTM Overhaul, but this is the first I`ve heard of a LR tie in.
Thankfully.
And the last. The LR tie-in will not happen. Pirates worked because of the extremely successful movies. Ever wonder why Eddit Murphy isn't in HM? No Disney movie franchise will come close to Pirates - at least not in the next 10 years.

While BTM does need a good refurb, they are getting some love. Some of the track just went under a month-long replacement process (all done at night). The river trestle - the part that goes over the water near the end - is getting some needed TLC. You can see that work during the day as there is just a damn around the area.

I have been told there is a mid-large refurb coming up soon, but I don't think 2010 is the year for BTM. There are plans being talked about of changing the boarding process (possibly one load platform) and extensive software work to avoid many problems that happen today. 2010 or 2011 might be the year for Splash - they will be getting new logs with restraints and that needs a longer refurb for minor track adjustments and T&A.

I second that. I think that attractions are going to have more movie characters in them. People can connect with the attraction better if they feature characters they are familar with in my opinion. But like I said, I dont think The Lone Ranger characters will be incorporated into Big Thunder Mountain. Just for the record, I think The Lone Ranger, Tonto, and Silver will become popular characters from a very good movie. Just my gut feeling on the movie so far.:D

I do not think Jack Sparrow is as popular as you may think he is. Most kids would rather want spiderman, harry potter, or a star wars charecter.

I shudder at the thought.:zipit:

At least POTC was done not too over the top.

Explain this rumor of "one load platform".

What's wrong with the current setup? The only thing I can imagine is labor, since they need two teams to run both sides.

And how would they maintain high capacity with a single load area? I guess load 2 trains at once, but that would require a station double in length.

But thinking about it now, once you're seated you do wait an unusually long time to be dispatched. Perhaps they could create an "on deck" holding area---like DLs Space Mountain, and use a single crew more efficiently to get people seated and out of the load area (on a recent trip to DL I was fascinated how fast the CMs loaded people--those air gates helped. )

God bless the "Ignore" button.
...why would Disney want to put characters from an upcoming movie in a popular attraction when they dont know how the movie is going to do?
Dinosaur/Countdown to Extinction anyone?

Haha. Don't get to close!:fork:
I honestly don't think that Thunder Mountain needs a refurbishment that badly. There are plenty of other places to put that money that could use it more.

Just my personal opinion here, but anyone who can't "connect" with an attraction or its characters because they're not featured in a movie or TV show lacks imagination and an ability to accept something new. I can point out many examples from Disneyland and Disney World of characters exclusive to them that have had a tremendous impact on me - for example, Figment (even if the last two incarnations have been, shall we say, unimaginative), Buzzy, the Country Bears (okay, they did have a terrible movie, but fortunately no change was made to the attraction at Disney World), Timekeeper, Nine-Eye, Jose and the rest of the Tiki Birds. They didn't have to be plastered onto a lunchbox or pushed in my face everywhere I went. I love the idea of going on an attraction where the story hasn't already been laid out for me. Yes, I love Peter Pan's Flight, too, but I find I much prefer the ORIGINAL ideas and characters.
I liked Jack Sparrow in the first movie, but there was NO reason to change the attraction to be about him. And that's what they did. Almost everything is about finding Jack and getting Jack and Jack doing his schtick. The original attraction was ambiguous. You didn't know who these pirates were. You didn't know all of the events that led to this. You were allowed to use your own imagination to fill in the details, and that, for me, was perfect. Many of the current Imagineers - or whoever it is coming up with these boneheaded decisions to make these changes - seem to think we're all a bunch of idiots that need to be constantly told what's going on and what we should buy. Look at the recent changes:
1. The aforementioned Pirates is now a big marketing gimmick and a huge Jack-love fest (they should have called it "Just Jack" and gotten it over with)
2. The Tiki Room was halved in length (a frightenly frequent trend now. Anything over 5 minutes will scare off the MTV generation), populated with two birds from Disney movies, and filled with insults toward the original show.
3. In The Haunted Mansion they've decided to show you that Constance is now quite definitely an axe-murderer instead of leaving her story vague and therefore up to your own obviously stunted imagination.
4. Speaking of stunted imagination, they halved Journey Into Imagination and removed all the imagination. Now you're spoon-fed lame fun house tricks, smells, and sounds and Figment sounds like a petulant child.
5. In Disneyland's Small World they've changed the focus from peace and brotherhood to a muddled message spot-the-Disney-character farce. No doubt these characters are or soon will be for sale in the gift shop at the exit. I haven't bothered to look.
6. The Seas with Nemo and Friends features a ride that has zero educational value. In any other park, that would be fine, but education is in EPCOT's original dedication. Entertainment is, too, but the tiny bit of education you can easily skip after the ride is too little, too late. I'd be okay with this if the attraction were modified to impart just a little information about the Seas.

There's more, but this is long enough already. Look, an attraction created just for Jack Sparrow - perhaps in the Studios so it wouldn't compete with Pirates of the Caribbean - would be great. I just don't think it was necessary to destroy (and I know some will disagree with me on that) an attraction just to push a movie or character from a movie. If they want to "improve" Pirates at Disney World, then they should redo the beginning and end to be more like Disneyland's.

Are you serious? :ROFLOL:
I'm not out to win any argument. If in some way you could walk a day in my boots, youd see, savvy? :king:
All I'm saying is why would they remove Captain Jack from The PotC attraction? Even if they removed Chartman and Fishface, Im sure The Catain would make room if they wanted to put the naked wench back in the barrell. :D

Oooo, I like the sound of that. :)

I don't care how good the Lone Ranger movie might be, NO MORE TIE-INS! I hope this rumor isn't true.
Agreed 100%!
I mean, come on...
The reason I enjoy original attractions so much is because of their story that they have themselves. The Disney Theme Parks shouldn't be recaps of all the movies that Disney has made - movies that no one will remember very good 20 years down the road.

I would prefer if WDI did not put the Lone Ranger in. It's not that I think BTM would be ruined by it but... I feel like the mood of the attraction would change. I always liked that it was just you, the train, and the terrain while your riding along through the wildest ride in the wilderness. Would the Lone Ranger try to save you? Or would he just be there waving? I like that you are on a runaway train and having someone there to potentially "save" you would be... weird in my mind and would change the attraction.

I don't know what the proposed (if any) concept for incorporating the Lone Ranger would be, but I think anything would change the tone of the ride since there isn't any human interaction right now (unless you count the Old West Town that you ride through).

I think it could use some TLC but having "human" interaction would change the tone of the ride and the additions wouldn't be as seamless as the POTC additions. IMO.

I think also we need to keep in mind that we are people who know and love the park specific characters (ex the Tiki birds, Figment, etc) while the general public doesn't really know about them. So for us, yes, adding movie/tv characters everywhere is annoying and unnecessary for OUR enjoyment on the rides but for a small kid, finding Alice on Small World could make their day, or for a middle schooller seeing Captain Jack would be the coolest thing ever. So while I am not a huge fan of WDI adding movie/tv characters at every turn (actually I'd love some more nonmovie based rides with unknown characters) I understand why the do it. It's easier for a kid to get excited by seeing a familiar face than to create a ride that not only introduces the character but then creates a bond with the person riding the 10 min ride... much harder (but I wish that they would still try to do it more often).

Just my thoughts.
