News Big Thunder Mountain to receive full retrack

I would imagine it comes out of the Beyond Big Thunder bucket since some of the work is related and there will be some "plussing" involved. Finally. This goes far beyond closing Haunted Mansion to replace a conveyer belt, which would not be included.
Is that a yes, it comes out of the 60B ?

So that means all maintenance could be considered part of the 60B...since it is improving existing assets...
could they then include daily operational labor as part of the "investment" too?

No, because routine maintenance is not an improvement, it's maintenance.

The planned work on BTM is beyond (no pun intended) just a necessary track replacement. It is an improvement on what is already there.

ETA: I don't claim to know where the money is coming from for this project, but its scope is broad enough to be legitimately lumped, whether partially or fully, into the $60bn if they so choose.

Sure, if you just completely ignore how things are done and what they’ve said about allocating a large chunk towards additional capacity.

This chart has been floated on a few threads, but this was the allocation they shared.

Dedicating funds to tech & maintenance is definitely a good thing.

Apparently, there is an image of an Indian with headdress “carved” into the mountain at the top somewhere, I have just heard rumor of this but have never noticed it.

If it’s there, do we think it will be erased as part of this work?
Why ask this question when it hasn’t even been established whether this supposed carving exists in the first place?

AFAIK new track and rollingstock is happening, though this timeline is a bit earlier than what I've heard.

The timeline as shared with me was 18 months for retrack and "show improvements," with another year or so of sitework. I don't believe the ride will be closed for the full 3 years, but rather that work in the immediate area will take that long.

Re: SM vs BTM being retracked first. Space indeed needs it, but BTM's condition is visible to guests. It sounds like SM could go down as soon as BTM comes back online, if not sooner.

The thing about deferred maintenance...
As I said last week...

I saw a pic, (I cant see to find it at the moment) it didn't look like a head to me and just because I cant see it means nothing, besides that, even if I saw it, my feeling means nothing since I am not native American.

If it was intentionally put there, and someone sees it, someone could be offended. This would be the time to erase it from existence.
Methinks you're just trying to stir the pot.

While we're here... the reason I've been so bearish on their wild TURBOCHARGE claims and specifically the grand vision for BBTM is that more of the honeypot is going to have to be allocated to correct deferred maintenance and infrastructure than they are currently accounting for.

Once BTMRR is fully retracked, receives overhauled rollingstock (full rework of the existing chassis with new bodies), new ride control system, and maybe some updated show scenes, work is likely to begin immediately on SM. There are a few proposals, and nothing's cheap.

They also have huge, expensive looming costs in both transportation systems and IT infrastructure coming due during this period. Not to mention the seemingly-unsolvable riddle at the entrance to their "reimagined" EPCOT... that's perhaps the one I'm most worried about.

Looking at the state of things, we'll get a few new attractions at MK, a well-designed and well-funded conversion of Dinoland to Tropical Americas, and *maybe* an additive attraction or three between AK and DHS. Subject to change of course. :::glares at ESPN:::

In theory, this should mostly come out of the overall $60B but not the $17B portion specifically earmarked for "expansions" for WDW. Disney has said that a part of the $60B is maintenance which is certainly part of CapEx for the parks and where this would be. That said, if they are moving the backstage maintenance shed and/or working on any part of the future guest areas for BBTM then that portion could certainly be part of the $17B for WDW.
