Just checked the calendar and there is a notation that BTMR will be down for rehab beginning Nov. 15th. Just 6 days before my trip!! It's one of our must-do rides....I love those possums!!

If it's more than one day they give a date range, and the WDW site only list that day, so I think it will be just a one day rehab.

How much can they do in a one-day rehab? Just general maintenance, or something different with the ride?

With a great team, alot could get done in a one day rehab. But my money is on them just fixing somthing that can't be fixed while the ride is operating. Maybe some painting and/ or cleaning. Maybe cleaning the water pumps.

a lot of the things on thunder mountain haven't been working for a long time. the possums do spin anymore, several of the animatronics don't move.

And I don't know if this has been like this for a while, but i tend to remember boulders falling down on the fake tracks in the shaking boulder room.

Well, even if it is closed while you're there, look at the bright side...

The fact that BTMRR is one of your "must-do" rides indicates that you get to go to WDW enough to have "must-do" rides. Think about people who only get around to WDW sporadically, rarely, maybe only once or twice in their lives. If something is closed when they are there, they might miss it forever. It'll just make the ride that much sweeter the next time you go.

Not the greatest amount of solace, but it's something

You're right. What makes BTMR so special to us is that it the first "adult" roller coaster DD was tall enough (and brave enough) to ride. Since our last trip was 8 years ago, we are really looking forward to reliving that magic moment.

Big Thunder will be closed for refirb on the 15th...
this is directly from the portal.
It is only slated to be down for that one day...

Hope this helps...

I just went to MK Sept 2006 and one of the trains broke down. They were having trouble and had to back the train into an unused area while we waited. With the lines at that ride they can't afford to be down a train. On this day they had both sides running and I noticed later in the day the wait time was high considering it was not that busy of a day! Sure hope that is all it is - I am planning to cruise around MK again in November!

Here's the offending train:

That was mine too. That's why it's a favorite for my family, b/c it was a "first." Good memories there.

Big Thunder is just about my favorite ride. In fact my fav roller coaster type ride. I was scared it was going down for a while, but looks like just a day.

We are heading down on 11/25 and was worried for a minute. One of the reason we like to go at this time of year is due to little or no rehabs!
