Big Screen Tower of Terror Being Erected by Disney?

Eh...I can't say I like the idea.
I mean...they did it once, why do it again?

Tell the same story...but differently?
Factor in the first story? Ignore it?

Thought you guys would like to see this. Any comments? I personally don't have an opinion yet. It could be really bad or really good.

Exactly. If it has the production budget of Haunted Mansion it will be bad but if it gets the PoTC treatment it has real potential. A "Twilight Zone" franchise could be very successful.

So there could be a 20K Under the Sea franchise and a T.Z. franchise in the future? Sounds good!

If they make it anything like the Haunted Mansion movie I wont even bother seeing it. That movie felt like it was made for the 5 and under crowd. Stupid lame jokes and Eddie Murphy :dazzle: . Uhg.

The real question is will is star Steve Gutenberg?

That was the haunted mansion-esque budgeted "movie". Erase that from your memory. If Disney goes back to the idea and budgets it right it will work. But it has to have a real "Twilight Zone" vibe to it. It really is a potential gold mine.

I remember the criticism when Disney said they were going to make a PoTC movie. Seemed completely absurd at the time but then......well lets just say it still has potential for more.

I kinda like the idea.. if they really did it right.. not like the 90's TV movie. I think it could have some real potential.

No...I disagree.
They can make a great ToT movie for $90million (HM's budget).
The budget for the TV movie was far less. Like less than $10million.
All they need is to get the script right.

Actually, I volunteer to write it for them.:lookaroun
Please?

As do I, for what it was. Of course, I remember watching it during the "Vault Disney" era, when it would be followed with the classic, archival content that constituted said programming block. Thems were good tymes. Ye olden days. Pre-2002. :lookaroun

I agree with several of the thing said here. I'll go further: make it in black and white, and set within the same structure as a Twilight Zone episode. Obviously substance (script, dialogue, character development, acting, etc.) trump the style (cinematography, narration style, music, etc.), but I still think that could really influence the movie.

By the way, perhaps the term "erected" is a poor choice for creating a film. I really thought there was going to be a large screen built somewhere near the attraction.

I think I would personally rather them bring a version of the TV series back, rather than a movie treatment. Put it on Disney channel after 9 pm or so and make it a "family fright night." Make the episodes scary in a 10 year old type of way. If they could take the Muppets route, in that they make the show accessible for the whole family, I think it would be a great success. The way the Muppets had the inside jokes that went right over the head of the young ones, but made their parents laugh hysterically would be the goal. Make it twisted and weird for the parents in a way that a 10 year old wouldn't have to hide their eyes.

Either way, if it gets enough money, a good script, and some good actors, it will probably be a decent movie (or TV show if I had my way) at worst.

I think there is potential for a good movie here, provided they get the right people behind it. Otherwise, why bother, wait for the DVD.

I was very skeptical of POTC, but they surprised me and everyone else when they knocked it out of the park. I would love to see them do the same with this.

While I would like to see this done well, sadly, I think this just points to the lack of any real imagination and creativity in Hollywood when they turn to re-makes and a theme park attraction. But, as we've seen, sometimes it works. If this does work, might we soon see Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain, and God save us all, It's a Small World :hurl: eventually on the big screen?
