Big changes for Energy Pavilion!

Here's the problem.

1. I can't find any evidence that Science Magazine published any such article.

2. The WND, as you show, claims that the study was published "today."

3. Through Google, I've found many people claiming that "an article published in Science Magazine" supports the abiotic theory going back several years.

All of which leads me to believe this is just one of those misstatements that comes up periodically. An urban legend, if you will.

Yes, there was an article published today by Science Magazine. But I'm not sure it's quite as earth-shattering as WND makes it out to be:

Abiogenic Hydrocarbon Production at Lost City Hydrothermal Field

Wonderful thing about reasearch. You develop a hypothesis and then you find all kinds of "facts" to prove your hypothesis is correct. Of course others will find just as many "facts" to disprove your hypothesis.

Reminds me of a book entitled "How To Lie With Statistics.

By the way it is dead plant and animal material not just animals. And there sure was a lot of vegitation then. Still is in many places.

They also say a glass of milk a day can kill you... Oh wait that was last week, this week it adds a year to your life.
:ROFLOL:

Uhh no, it is Friday...milk is deadly again.:lookaroun

:ROFLOL:take 2

i was dressing in the gym locker room the other morning when the story broke on one of the morning shows that heating things in certain plastic bottles can release deadly toxins. huh. do you know anyone personally that has gotten sick from this. oh, it was in baby bottles too.

sorry for the thread drift. UoE needs to get in line behind JIYI and WoL. :)

Yea...it just sounds too much like it was said by the same guy who said "Global Warming is a myth." for my tastes.
:hammer:

And if we can't predict the weather for next weekend, how can we be so sure about all this global warming "stuff"

So I guess we don't have to worry about that evolution nonsense...

Never said it was "earth-shattering". It just makes the whole UoE ride even more incoherent than it was before. It's not science, it's...........well I'm not sure exactly what it is.

The natural processes of oil and how that oil is utilized is science. Alternative energy sources are certainly a science. I mean, "brain power" isn't necessarily a science, but almost everything else in the pavilion seems to be scientific to me.

Just add some neon lights, swirling disks and giant needles and call it "Ellen's Really Bad Energy Trip"....

But, seriously, UoE really needs the refurb.

Milk is good/milk is bad, coffee is good, coffee is bad, booze is bad, booze helps your heart, you would easily get whiplash trying to watch the scientific community contradict itself. I would welcome a major refresh of UOE. I hope it stays a nice dark ride, it is nice to be able to take a break that lasts a while without having to wait in hour long lines every now and then, especially during the summer.

Now for some serious thread drift....

It always amazes me how political science has become. Once a scientific view becomes politically correct you are not allowed to study the subject let alone disagree. Discourse becomes taboo. Anyone who doesn't follow the Gorian view of global warming is a heretic and is kicked out of the scientific community for their blasphemy. NASA's readings suggest that Mars is also experiencing global warming, I guess those two rovers are some mighty little poluting machines, or course that doesn't explain Venus' warming up. Having said that, I do hope people continue to follow the prophets because cleaning up the environment and getting off of fossil fuels would be a good outcome even if the impetus is bogus.

Of course, if you were my daughter, a glass of milk a day would kill you, so...
Soy lattes on me for everyone!!! LOL

If you leave it sitting there until there's conclusive evidence, it probably WILL kill you.
