A path that sounds nice in a press release.

We've gone from Computer Central Backstage Magic Travelport Stargate Energy Exchange Centorium Future Choice Theatre Expo Robotics Sunrise Terrace EPCOT Outreach Futurecom Fountain of Nations

to

Future Feast Future Mart bar M&G fountains. They need to make a pathway sound glamorous.

The Epcot Experience aka blue sky cellar really hypes up the overhaul. My kid thought it was fantastic and got excited over the play pavilion stuff and Rat.

Doing it’s job then. I preferred breakfast.

Fortunately my wife and I know the differences between expectation and reality, so we're only cautiously optimistic, but to see the kids get excited is kinda what it's all about.

The Epcot I experienced as a kid in 1983,84,86,88 is gone, and the ghosts of those years haunt the park. The jumping water is still there making people smile, but the hallowed out imagination is out of ideas, and sea base alpha is dirty, dank and devoid of fun (although the tanks looked sparkly clean yesterday).

🤷‍♂️ My 2 year old was still in heaaaaaaven in the sea base. Sprinting from window to window for 2 solid hours while staring at the fish and other sea life in the tanks was undoubtedly his favorite part of the entire week.

It was a hit with our kids too, but after around 5 years old they start "noticing" things...

So who is making the decision to disneyfy everything? This whole overhaul seems very confused in its identity. They create an Epcot typeface the mimics the original and bring back the pavilion symbols, as well as create new ones, but then they toss characters into most everything. Yet, The Land gets a new film that while it isn’t the best is pretty free of IP.

Like, what the the overall purpose and why is there no consistency?

The park would be most “Disneyfied” if they made it a high-quality product with cohesive storytelling and powerful themes, like their films and other media tend to be, and the parks historically have been. That’s what makes something “Disney.” Putting existing IP in Epcot just makes it referential to what is already Disney for the above reasons, it doesn’t actually make the park “Disney.”

The icons and logo work well in 2020, probably even better than they did in 1982, which is ironically both a smart business decision and a testament to the original park’s forward-thinking nature. It will also appease certain fans while they take actions that they know said fans won’t like. I agree there’s no real vision.

@marni1971 Would it have been possible to turn the Southwest Innoventions building into the event space and include a rooftop bar? The demolition and rebuild seems like change just for the sake of change IMO.
I’m no architect but it doesn’t take a genius to think yes. That’s been my argument all along.

Not to mention the even larger north west building was also available.

Yes, it was possible. It would require reinforcing or adding to the structure to support added weight on the roof but doable.
