Big Animal Kingdom E-ride

Oh, I liked it, but it falls far short of being a great film.

It DOES take itself seriously... way too seriously, and the screenwriters have a tin ear (like Jim Cameron) for dialogue... Too often, Matt's lines are so on the nose, it just makes you cringe (and made a lot of people laugh or giggle). Some of the other characters have moments like that too.

If I hear "Lock and Load" in an action movie one more time...

Go see the movie for the dragons. That's it's saving grace, and it is worth seeing for that (and Bale is really good in his role). Don't expect much from McConaughey, and you'll be fine... expect Popeye.

I think I can safely say that unfortunately/fortunately, a Reign of Fire attraction is out of the question. My friends thought it was good. Harry Knowles at Aint it cool thought it was good, but its not good enough to be a box office smash and its not good enough of a movie for an attraction.

My thoughts: It was a wonderfully detailed film, full of excellent visuals of scorched london, bada-- dragons and a good look at taking these creatures seriously, but it lacks something.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

After the introduction of Quinn's character, they have Christian Bale talking about how the dragons scorched the dinosaurs off the earth and went to rest. This could have been told splendidly by visuals, but instead it was shown through easily manufactured Time covers and press photos. Maybe not an entire numbing CGI sequence, but some visual stimulation was in order. The most interesting tidbits and revelations about the film are told in the first few minutes instead of revealed through later exposition, much like Indiana Jones did with The Audience learning more along the adventure as Indy learned. The whole plan about killing the only male dragon seemed quite ludicrous. There should be thousands of males. Unfortunately, this is Hollywood and they have to keep it short. But they could of done this masterfully. I just can't believe that there were thousands of females and on male. Maybe the males were eaten before they lived much like how Lions in certain packs kill their cubs. Maybe the dragons laid eggs in fields, and the men go out to find and destroy these fields only to meet up with the parents. There are many other ways.

Anyway, the movie is not strong enough commercially and critically to support an attraction, and therefore it will be a while till it happens.
