Mario’s one of the most known and recognizable characters around. We’ll get to test this hypothesis in a month as to how niche he is.Nah, its significantly more niche than you think.

Exactly.Mario’s one of the most known and recognizable characters around. We’ll get to test this hypothesis in a month as to how niche he is.
I think it’s going to be the highest grossing animated movie of the year. I also think it’s going to stay #1 at the box office until Guardians a month later. It’s litterally the first family film released this year. The marketing campaign has also been top notch at building excitement, people are hyped for this. I think you are going to be quite surprised.Exactly.

Your average Joe on the street who's never held a video game controller knows who Mario is. He's the most well known character created within the past 40 years.Nah, its significantly more niche than you think.
No.could we get back on topic
Yes. Any further off topic posts will be deleted.could we get back on topic
We won't have to wait long.
I'm just saying I would be blown away if this does $1B globally.
I think a lot of this will come down to the quality of movie and not the name alone. We have seen Mario Movies bomb before and thats when Mario was in his prime back in 93. It grossed 38M. Granted that movie was unwatchable.
@The Mom said that this is off topic, so there is no need to discuss it here. That Mario movie was an absolute disaster of a film, though. It's hard to use it as a measuring stick for anything when the quality was so poor.
Anyways, as I said above, I think $1B is likely the baseline they're looking for with this film. $1B isn't a crazy number for a movie anymore; there are usually several films that clear that total every year. They'll probably be happy if it clears $1B (or at least gets really close); I think they'll consider it a big disappointment if it doesn't.
I'm honestly not sure what to expect personally.
We won't have to wait long.

Fair enough. First time on this thread. Didn't realize it was taken over by the Mario conversation.@The Mom said that this is off topic, so there is no need to discuss it here.
Iger is only at Disney again for two years, starting November 2022, meaning that he’s back until 2024, just as long has he found his true, proper successor. Not sure if this gives him time to fully greenlight the "Beyond BTM" expansion.I wouldn’t be so sure to say that this has been canned. Encanto and Coco were both developed under Iger and that idea seems like exactly something that Iger would love. But I will wait for updates from insiders.
Encanto & Coco are still big enough to justify this expansion atleast. I wish it was going to EPCOT though.
Add a Coco expansion that recreates Miguel's villages in that spot inbetween current Mexico & Norway. The Mexico Pavillion is popular enough to justify more of it being added.
A Colombian Pavillion with an Encanto ride is a no brainer too.
Having a "Coco" ride in Magic Kingdom when there's a Mexico pavilion down the street at Epcot would be maddening. Understood that there are hurdles in updating the pavilion - i.e. logistics and traffic congestion - but make it happen, Disney!
If they had a bigger budget and actually wanted to expand the Mexico ride length (and more space for the queue), I would 100% prefer Coco went in Epcot.
I think Epcot should get the Coco and Encanto stuff, though I think an Encanto attraction focusing on Antonio's animals would be much better for Animal Kingdom.
If Coco and Encanto park projects were greenlit under Iger, they should be exclusive to Epcot and Animal Kingdom respectively.
The first part is true, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this project was expedited. About the second part, that’a just your personal opinion.Iger is only at Disney again for two years, starting November 2022, meaning that he’s back until 2024, just as long has he found his true, proper successor. Not sure if this gives him time to fully greenlight the "Beyond BTM" expansion.
Yet again, if Coco and Encanto park projects were greenlit under Iger, they should be exclusive to Epcot and Animal Kingdom respectively.
I think most of us have just come to accept that’s how things are now. I don’t like it at all, but I know it’s what’s going to happen.Disney Fans: "Stop the IP invasion!"
I don't understand - Mexico already has IP shoehorned into the pavilion, why not use a property that's actually respectful of the culture?Disney Fans: "Stop the IP invasion!"
The mexico pavillion was already invaded by IP 15 years ago what are you talking about lolDisney Fans: "Stop the IP invasion!"
The problem is that the mouse is mass merchandising their builds so trying to judge interest by applause at a hardcore fan event as what the GP would spend for might not be the best yardstick to use.Forgive me for drifting back on-topic, but this seemed pertinent to the thread:
