Beware of upcoming trips - monorail and MANY, MANY rides were down

Refer back to my post #20 in this thread where I stated it was impossible to walk to the MK from the GF because of private paths and the canal where they store the electric water parade floats.

Edward was talking about walking the opposite direction. Read his post again.

Yes and would you please stop pointing out things that I have pointed out way before they even came on here? One of the first things I said when finding out that they OP stayed at the GF was they could go walkways via the Poly or the TTC. NOT THE OTHER DIRECTION. My post #20 stated to Empress Lily that they could def not walk MK to GF or vice versa bc of the canal. READING COMPREHENSION people!

You can't really walk form the GF to the MK, it's too far. With the monorail down (singular, there's only one monorail line connecting the GF with the MK), the low capacity of the boats mean these cease being a viable alternative too, they can't handle the crowds. It's buses or taxis. Only to find that once one does make it into the parks too many rides are down - this despite having had to buy a hard ticket on top of general park admission because actual Christmas festivities are considered a private event.

Oh well, if I had paid $600 a night at the GF, I would've just stayed put and sat outside to enjoy the marvelous popcorn lights on the flagship hotel.
You mean those burned out strings of bulbs that outline the building?

We were in WDW from 12/8-12/16. The monorail was down A LOT - sometimes for many hours. We had MVMCP that Tues and it took us 2 hrs just to get to MK - not enough busses, etc. The MR elevator at Contemporary was broken so that guests had to be bussed to MK. At one point during the week, Small World, LM, Carousel, Toy Story and TT were all down in the span of a few hours. I was a little disappointed with our trip in that respect. It seems like the upkeep is not what it should be. The upside, though, was that we practically walked on every ride (when they were working) until the Saturday we left. Still a geat time, but a little disheartening.

I usually tend to defend Disney on these types of posts, but I am really not sure what the big deal is about the this one. The title may have been a little over the top, but when I actually read the post it didn't seem like whining or an unfair portrayal of the situation. Rides will be shut down and issues occur so you have to just role with it, but it can still be disappointing. The monorail is a bigger issue IMHO. If you shell out the cash to stay at a Monorail resort then you expect the monorail to work. I would be disappointed too if it took me 2 hours to get to MK from GF. Perfectly acceptable gripe in my opinion.

You mean there are supposed to be lights outlining the GF roof lines? I think I accidentally saw a string of them on the last week in November. I need to write someone and let them know that they're wasting perfectly good electricity on that strand.

Who are you to judge me? Seriously? Because I stated it isnt that hard for someone to walk with their kids somewhere or take a alternative form of transportation like many of us with kids do? I think you have this turned around a bit.

It may not be hard for YOU to walk with kids from one park to another or from a deluxe to the MK....but that doesn't apply to everyone. I'm 32, childless, not in awful shape, but by the middle of our trip, we were taking the monorail from MK to Contemporary simply to have a few minutes of sit down time.

You should generalize less, just my suggestions.

Wow...somebody has really gotten excited over this. o_O

And quite for no reason.

With the softening occRates and declining attendance maybe the fanbois should temper their "just walk away" rhetoric. It seems you are getting you wish.

I didn't mean to get everyone heated! I was just sharing a few experiences that I found troubling.

Sadly, these experiences you had I hear with a fair amount of frequency, tho. People need to be honest and share. If just 1 person says something didn't work when they were there that wouldn't be a big deal at all. It could easily be written off as bad luck or coincidence. But when you read about this same type of stuff happening with a fair amount of regularity or if you show up a few months later and have the same issues, that means it's a lot more than just coincidence or bad luck w/timing. ;)

How do you know their situation? What if they are traveling with someone that's physically disabled? I'm sure that they wouldn't want to walk a long distance to their hotel, especially after a whole day of walking around a theme park. And to top it off, they are paying extreme amounts of money to utilize the monorail service.

I understand that things break down. It happens. But it's just not right to say that they could have easily walked "like everyone else" when you don't know their situation.

I've seen quite a bit on MC and DIS. That being said, some of the folks in here need to slap themselves in the mouth for being so grinchy towards the OP.

No one ever said it was acceptable. But all of us pay just about the same and don't have to come on a message board whining about the fact that oops the monorail broke down and wahhh I have 2 kids. So do the rest of us. But we don't complain about it. The monorails were not down the whole time she was there and I'm pretty sure it wasn't EVERY line of monorails that was down. And as far as the whiny kids are concerned. Kids are kids...that would be the perfect time to teach them that not everything can go your way and to learn patience. The entitlement is what blows my mind. And no where on this thread did ANYONE say it takes 2mins to walk to the MK from the GF. It takes ten mins at that. And heck if she wanted to she could have taken a special GF ferry across to the MK and wouldve been on her way, or taken something from the TTC (ferry) or poss monorail if the express line wasnt down. So I don't see the problem here other than someone wanting to complain. I'd hate to see what would happen if she was caught there during a hurricane.

This would be a prime example. Why can't someone vent their frustrations about Disney? And why is it ok for this person to WHINE about the OP whining? Why is it ok for me to whine about them whining about the OP whining? When will this madness stop!!!!??????

Hypothetically what if the OP was ECV bound and wanted to use the monorail so as not to be shot the judgmental looks at the bus stops? Just a thought and alternate perspective from the "flip side of the coin" guy!

We all have opinions and are entitled to them but nobody has to agree just because someone else has an opinion that vehemently disagrees.

I absolutely understand why you would be upset! You specifically pay for a resort that enables you to use the monorail directly attached and then you don't get that!

And I was irritated at how many times Splash Mountain was down while we were there. EE was also down for awhile as well as multiple others. It does bum you out when you pay Disney prices, but aren't getting the full experience.

Obviously you still had a lovely time, because, come on, it's WDW! And I def think you're entitled to be disappointed!

Hopefully you get a reply from Disney on the matter and don't let this effect future trips too much <3
