WHAT: Celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary, well just shy of it.
WHERE: Walter Elias Disney World - POP Century Resort - Yacht Club Resort
WHEN: June 16 - 21st, 2013.

So, to preface this Trip Report a few details are needed. This will really be my first trip report, I believe I attempted another one but it was pretty weak sauce if you ask me. I will attempt to be more thorough with my reporting, thoughts, and opinions on experiences etc etc etc.

In July of 2012 we Disneymooned for a whopping 12 days, which was epic on many levels. Considering the length of stay we decided that an annual pass simply made sense. We then followed up our July trip with a weeklong stay at the Swan in March of 2013 with our best friends. We shared a room to save some money and it was overall a fun trip, despite their newbieness and my unfortunate roll of tour guide and historian.

So this brings us to THIS trip report. My wife and I can get pretty impulsive but normally something along the line keeps us in check... that is normally Expedia or Disney themselves. What I mean by that is we'll often share a few drinks then start with the "we should go to Disney next month" spiel but almost always we'll check Expedia or Kayak and we're faced with a 400 dollar flight on late notice. That is an instant trip killer for us. UNTIL this past month! We're hanging around the house after a long day of work, popped a few cold ones, threw on Pinocchio and 2 hours later we were booked for another stay at Disney. The stars simply alligned, flights were cheap at less than 250 a person (roundtrip, flying direct at good times via Jet Blue) and we were on Facebook chatting with my usual KK agent. We went back and forth with the idea of where to stay and we were acting under the guise of being economically sound in our decision making process. We almost instantly eliminated our normal Beach Club stay, with the reality of a wicked high rack rate and almost no availability in such short notice. We then downgraded to POFQ and started to discuss the impact of the bussing, size of room for the value of your dollar, etc etc etc and ultimately came down to the old "lets save some bucks" mentality... choosing The Pop Century Resort as our final stay.

I would be a liar if I didn't say I was a little nervous about the downgrade from Deluxe to Value. But at the end of the day it all comes down to your perceptions and what you value in a resort. For my wife and I we value access, not necessarily theming and resort accommodations. We enjoy the Beach / Yacht because it allows us to walk to two gates and a great collection of entertainment at the Boardwalk resort, plus a wicked nice pool eh? Be it as it may, we simply use the room as a place to crash since we're early risers and usually end our days in the parks.

EDIT: As many of you know, or may not know, I am a photographer. I now describe myself as a photography enthusiast, I now refuse to do any more paid projects. I now focus 100% on myself and my own personal life.

When it comes to photographing Disney there are many, many options to consider. Size and weight is certainly the biggest one that crosses my mind. I have had quite a few DSLR bodies from the cheapest entry levels to Nikon FX bodies. Chase Jarvis likes to say that the best camera is the one you have with you. I'm just not a huge fan of the digital world but it's certainly more convenient. I wanted something that would give me some quality while not weighing a brick. That's where this camera came into play, the Fuji X-Pro1. A hell of a lot cheaper than a Leica M9, same size, but after a week of use and reviewing the cameras files this one is going back to B&H. The camera IQ and image quality is second to none, literally it's THAT good. But there is one caveat with this camera. The autofocus sucks, period. So without going into a huge review or something I'm returning her... which makes me sad because I really wanted to like her. Every image in this TR was taken with the Fuji X-Pro1 strapped with a Fujinon 35mm f1.4. Everything will be in black and white, because that's just what I like.

Love the pictures. Our trips overlapped a bit, and I have to say the second night we were at POR, it did occur to me that I forgot to check for bedbugs, and then I didn't think of it, again. It seems Disney did the best they could, and you handled it pretty well, too. Not everyone catches those buggers in the act, though. Sometimes you just wake with an itchy rash. When you look on and around the mattress during daylight, don't expect to find the actual critters, as they only come out at night. If you see anything looking brown or crusty, this may be dried blood they have left behind, or well...other stuff. I lucked out this time, but I should have checked. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Did they give you the $200? I can rack up on clothes from walmart with that amount of dough

Yes, 200 dollars in cash for our use anywhere... but at the time Walmart was the only thing open. I don't shop at Walmart, ever... so that was a bit of an experience as well. I've been there to buy soap and other household items but never clothes. I looked interesting.

6/19 - made a pretty dumb move on my part and failed to charge my battery the night before, camera had very little juice left so no images from our day at AK. Pretty normal day the Animal Kingdom, been there plenty of times... nothing new. I'm not even sure why I go there anymore, I ride the Safari, EE, and Dino and then I feel empty. This time we saw The Flights of Wonder show for the 1st time... pretty decent actually.

We had a 2PM (late lunch) ADR for Tusker House... big stinker if you ask me. The food was just really sub par. Everything was either very dry or over salted. And to top that off the character interaction was extremely minimal.

AK and DHS need major overhauls and expansions, just not enough to do.

After a lack luster day at AK we were onto Epcot... one of my favorite parks. I normally bounce between MK and EPCOT when people ask me what my favorite park is, but in reality EPCOT takes the number one position during busy seasons. MK in July, March, then June just wasn't manageable. Hoards and hoards and hoards of people down Main Street, a 100 minute wait for Pan!

Ok, back to EPCOT... love this dang place. Aside from pretty much always having future world audio loops on in the house or the awkward Danny Kaye opening TV show the park just does it for me. We took the time to really slow down and just deal with the crowds. We only rode the E tickets about three times this day but what else can be done right?

The highlights of the day: Behind the Seeds Tour & Dinner at The Sunshine Grill.

I really enjoyed your trip report and the b/w pics, although it kind of kept reminding me of Escape From Tomorrow. Interesting that you had bed bugs. End of May 2012 I stayed at SS. Lets just say it was my first Disney trip that went bad. It was a 4 day trip. On the second day I ended up in Celebration hospital. On the fourth day I started feeling itchy on my legs. Since my mind was preoccupied with what was happening with my health, I didn't focus on why my legs itched. It was just a minor annoyance to me. By the time I got home I had patches of three bites on my calves and hands. I immediately went to a doctor who said that the bites were consistent with bed bug bites. I called Disney, filed a report and was told they were send someone into the room I had stayed in with a dog who could sniff bed bugs out. In the meantime I emailed a copy of my doctor's report and pics of my bites. They eventually got back to me and said no bed bugs were found. The bites took weeks to go away, were very painful and went through a cycle of getting worse before getting better.

So although I'm sorry for you, I'm relieved in a way to find that this problem does exist. The thing is that you have to check while youre there and have someone come to the room during your stay. If you wait until your home, Disney will surely deny it.

This made me LOL!

Just like everyone else, VERY sorry to hear about the bedbugs (and your wife's dresses!) but also impressed with how you and Disney handled the situation. Love the pictures, and like you I always have Disney loops playing...in the house, car, etc. My favorite is the Innoventions Plaza Area Music loop. :) And thanks for the Behind the Seeds pictures, thinking about doing this one in December!

They handled it very well, both parties kept their cool.

I should have also mentioned after a few nights at the Yacht we received a package of goodies in an embroided Disney bag with our last name. The bag contained some mickey ears, snacks, an autograph book, and a Hidden Mickey book.

All very nice gestures from the management of the Pop.

As for the tour, do it... it's an hour and only like 14 bucks!

I know huh...

and to top it all off my wife had a bunch of dresses that were either dry clean or delicate wash, came back and they're a little short on her bottom now. Seems they just washed them and they shrank in the heat. Great... not like those were worth hundreds totaled up or anything.

I'd have to ask my brother the all-knowledgable bug guy, but to kill bed bugs you have to super-heat the fabrics. It's likely her dresses shrunk from the heat.

Did you happen to have any travel insurance? I wonder if there's any sort of coverage for property damaged as a result of bed bug treatment. Maybe homeowners insurance as part of your contents? Also, check maybe with the credit card company you use to pay for your hotel. You never know who might have some obscure coverage out there to help you recoop some of the loss. I totally feel for y'all. I. would. DIE. if any of my pricey clothes were damaged for any reason. Some of the stuff I have I'm so particular about because it cost so much. Even when the labels say to wash in a machine I'm too chicken so I haul it all up to the cleaners. So, yeah, I'm really feelin' for your wife right now. Gives me a sick-ish feeling in my throat. PLUS, you mentioned a rain jacket earlier. I feel that, too. My hubby has a Helly Hansen bought in Epcot back in '09 that he wears all the time as both a wind breaker and rain jacket. Those aren't cheap to replace, either.

I almost bought the HH jacket in the Norway Pavilion... didn't have my size though! They had XXL and Smalls... nothing else, fail.

That's Murphy's Law of Shopping. When you have extra money ear-marked, ready to spend, or something you need and intend to buy you will either not find it or every size will be present except the one you need and the one you could live with if you had to. However, if you're saving for something, determined to NOT spend money, or just had some big, unexpected expense causing you to need to be a bit frugal every stinkin' thing you ever thought was cool or wanted will be eeeeeverywhere in the perfect size and probably on sale. It never fails. I hate Murphy's Law of Shopping. HaTe with a capital "H" and a capital "T".

Your pics are really fun to look at. You favor the b&w...not that anything is wrong with it but it's a bit different spin on the usual shots seen in glaring vibrance. It puts more emphasis on the subject for me which I find refreshing. ;)

Thanks, this came out of the fact that I never learned color darkroom photography so I've always had a better eye in black/white. I agree, it makes you focus on subject material rather than introducing another visual element, color. It can be distracting at times, I've had people say "wow, great color..." but I had zero intention of composing that image because of color, I want to focus on subject material.

Fabulous vibrant color pics aren't hard to find with the interwebs at our fingertips these days. The black & white isn't as prevalent so I find it refreshing. Your composition comes through beautifully. I think if I ever took up photography I would do well with the composition because that's natural for me. It's the technical knowledge to make the camera capture what my mind's eye sees that would be my struggle. That's why I refuse to try to learn about DSLR photography. I have a feeling the technical learning curve would be very difficult for me to overcome. I would know what I see and what I want to capture/create but wouldn't be able to get all the settings and things right to have success. I guess creative types should all find their medium and enjoy that. I'm enjoying yours! ;)

First off. I am in love with your TR, seriously its fabulous. The pictures are amazing. And the fact they are in-for the most part-black and white is stunning. While I love seeing them in color, sometimes the black and white ones you have produced are enough to make sit back and just say wow...beautiful I say continue to do them no need for color at all.

Second-the bed bugs made me itch, in fact I am sitting here thinking ewwww. But I am so glad to see how you handled this, and how they handled this. Both were done with class. Could you have gone off in a tangent? Yes. Could you have lost it? Yes, but you didn't and that is so impressive. And the way they helped and dealt with the situation is just as impressive, I am sure your feelings and how you handled it was refreshing as I have seen my fair share of not so pleasant people go off on CM for reasons a lot less critical than bedbugs.

WL is amazing isn't it? We love it there so I think your wife has the right idea....go back and stay the experience is amazing.
