Beccone's (now) annual August Trip

Hi all, I'd llike to start off with this is my first trip report so please be kind. I've enjoyed reading many reports over the past 2 years and hope you all enjoy mine :)

I'll start off with a little info about my family. There is Chris (39) my husband, myself Lisa (34), Christian (14), Ben (7), Sam (5) and Emily (2, will be 3 in September). I have been to WDW as a child, my grandparents used to take me to visit family in Florida alot and they took me. My dh's first visit was with myself and our older son in 2002, he is not a crazed Disney fan like myself but I can tell that I am wearing him down, lol. When we went to WDW in 2002 I was pregnant with our second son and I promised Christian (then 6) that we would go back when Ben was 4, well then Sam came along and then Emily so our trip kept getting pushed back. Finally last year I decided we couldn't wait any longer so we went when the kids were 13, 6, 4 and almost 2. My kids quickly became Disney addicts and now we are planning to take a trip every year if possible.
Here's a picture of us from trip.

I should note that throughout this report you'll notice that there are very few pictures of my children all looking at me at the same time, I was frustrated at first because of course I wanted to get that perfect shot but by the second day I gave up and just took what I could get, lol.

On with the report, we had to decided to drive this year because we wanted to have our car with us while in WDW and our kids seemed to do really well driving back last year. Last year we took the autotrain down to Florida but our return train was cancelled due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Fay so we had my mil and oldest ds fly home and dh and I drove home with the little ones. That worked well for us so we had my mil and ds fly again and dh and I drove. We left on Thursday August 13th around 9am, dh wanted to miss the rush hour traffic around DC and it worked well for us, we didn't encounter any traffic at all on our way down.

My dh likes to drive while I entertain the kids so he drove the whole time, we stopped a few times for lunch, dinner, gas and potty breaks and thought we might make it down to Orlando but dh was tired so we finally stopped for the night around 10pm about an hour and a half outside of Orlando. We got a room at The Quality Inn, $40 for the night, figured it couldn't be too bad as it was a Quality Inn. Wasn't horrible but definately could not do more than one night there. I was awoken by my cell phone ringing at 5am, it was my ds to tell me that their car wasn't at the house yet to pick them up to go to the airport. I had arranged for a towncar to take them to and from the airport with a friend who owns a limo business. My mil had called the guy and got no answer and I then called the guys home phone and got no answer as well. So panic is setting in at my house because my mil hates to fly and she's stressing that they will miss their flight which was at 6:50am. Finally the guy gets there around 20 after 5am (a very long 20 minutes late), luckily we live only 15 minutes from BWI airport so they got there in plenty of time. At this point my 3 younger ones had woken up from dh and I talking and since we were all so excited to get to WDW we all got dressed were on our way by 6am.

We got in to Orlando about 7:30, stopped at Perkins and had a good breakfast. Then although it was only around 8:30 we decided to head over Pop Century. I checked us in, they told us they would text us when our room was ready, so we decided to tour the grounds a little and take a swim in the Hippy Dippy pool.

My ds called us around 9:15 to let us know that their plane had landed, we told them that we were at the pool and to call us when they got on the ME. They got to Pop about 10:00 (they had a hard time finding the ME at the airport), after my mil checked in we went to the food court because my ds and mil hadn't had time to eat at the airport, so they ate while we got the kids a snack and got our mugs. By the time we were done we got a text letting us know our room was ready so we all headed over there. We had requested adjoining, ground floor rooms, in a preferred location close to food court and parking lots (my ds Ben is physically delayed so he just started walking on his own this past year and cannot walk too far without needing help). We got a great location but our rooms were not connecting ( I never knew there was a difference between adjoinging and connecting), but we were happy with what we got because we were close to everything, we were in the 70's right across from the playground, very close to the 90's parking lot, foodcourt and Hippy Dippy pool. I was a little worried about hearing alot of noise from people passing our room being on the ground floor but it was actually pretty quiet.

My mil and ds got into their swimsuits and we went back to the pool for a while, then we went back to our rooms, showered changed and relaxed a little, then it was off to DTD!

We got to DTD maybe around 3pm and we headed over to our favorite sandwaich shop, Earl of Sandwich. Another a wonderful meal (my oldest said he could there every day and never get sick of it), we did some shopping, Sam made a lightsaber, Ben got some cars and Emily got a Tinkerbell doll. I got to do some birthday shopping for Ben and Emily, I must say one thing I absolutely love about staying on property is getting our packages sent to the hotel, how great it was to not have to carry all of our stuff, and with the amount of things I bought it would have been alot of stuff to carry, lol. We went to the Christmas shop and got our 2009 ornament. We got some Italian ices and sat and people watched for a while then we headed back to the hotel about 7pm. We walked around the resort some more and then I took the 3 little ones back to the hotel to get ready for bed and Christian and dh went to the pool for a bit. Kids all crashed by 9pm and dh and I were down as well by about 10pm, it had been a LONG day :)

Day 3 started with Dh and Christian getting up early to go over to Blizzard Beach. I got to sleep in a little bit with the little ones and then we got up, dressed and headed over to the Poly for the kids surprise, breakfast at Ohana's! First time there and we absolutely loved it, the restaurant was not real busy so the kids were not rushed with the characters and the food was great.

This was taken after the kids had already dug in, so much food! I had read how good the eggs were but had thought to myself how good could they be, well let me tell you they were the best scrambled eggs I have ever had, would love to know what they do to them.

After breakfast, we toured the grounds, watched some Hawaiian dancers and just fell in love with the Poly, definately on our list for possible future resorts.

Love the volcano pool (no we did not pool hop, lol)

I'm loving all the pictures! It's good to see another crazy person with four kids taking them all to disney!

Thank you! I know we are crazy right? It's funny because although my kids are usually wild and crazy at home when we go out to places like Disney they know they need to be good and listen to me so they are actually a joy to take places, people still we are crazy though, lol.

After touring the Poly we headed back to Pop Century to swim at the pool, Chris and Christian came back from Blizzard Beach around 3pm and they hung with us at the pool for a while. We went back to our rooms and got ready to head over to the Boardwalk. Once we got there we took the boat over to the Yacht and Beach Club right away, we were on a mission. We went over to Beaches and Cream where there was a 45 minutes wait for a party of 7, no problem, we just took the kids next door to the arcade. About an hour later our table was ready, I didn't realize just how small this restaurant was so we were all kinda sqeezed together but it was ok, we like each other for the most part, lol. Christian and I had burgers, Chris had a chili dog, and the kids had nuggets, I think, not sure what mil had, I did not get many food pics this trip, everyone dug in too fast for me. After we finished up we began our mission, The Kitchen Sink.

Of course we didn't finish it, but we had fun trying :)

We then headed back over to The Boardwalk where we had planned on spending the evening doing a little shopping and watching the performers. After taking the boat back over we watched a guy doing some tricks with an assortment of hats, the kids loved him. After the show he was teaching the kids some of the tricks. Then all heck broke loose, Ben (who doesn't walk that great and falls often) and Emily were playing around and collided really hard, Ben fell and broke open a previous scrape on his leg, which started bleeding and when him and Emily hit each other he hurt his mouth, which was also bleeding. I instinctively as a mother, hugged and held him to my chest, when I pulled him away I looked down and my shirt was covered in blood. Ok time to go, Chris offered to go buy me a shirt but Ben was still shaken up (although he was fine) and I really just wanted to get back to the room and rest up for the next day. I felt bad that we didn't get to do more at the Boardwalk but there's always next year:)

Picture of Boardwalk from the boat dock at the Yacht and Beach Club, and can you believe that we didn't get rained on? Don't know how that happened by the look of that sky.

We went back to the resort and after a little tv watching the kids were asleep by 9:30. Again Chris took Christian to the pool while I stayed in the room with the kids.

Day 4

We woke up around 6:30, Epcot had EMH at 8am so we had to get an early start. We had just gotten to the park, getting the kids out of the car and my right ankle gave out on me and I twisted it. I have had problems with this ankle for years and I twist it probably once a year so I knew I was in trouble but what was I going do so I started taking Motrin for pain, got an ace bandage at first aide and we went on. We arrived at the gates at 7:45. Once we were let in, we headed over to guest relations to get a GAC for Ben and to get a tag so we could use our stroller as a wheelchair. We then headed straihgt for Test Track, one of Christian and Chris's favorites. My mil stayed with Emily and Chris and I took the boys. There was no wait, they were not even making us watch the intro video. But as Ben and I started to get on he cried, so we didn't even sit down, we kinda stepped over the seat to the exit. After the boys ride was over I rode with my mil, Christian and Sam. Something must have been wrong with the ride (although the cm's never said so) because we walked right on to the holding pen*right before you watch the intro video) and then we waited about 30 LONG minutes and we didn't hear the ride going. After that, which pretty much was our whole extra hour, we went over to Mission Space, Chris, mil, Christian and Sam rode the mild one, got a baby swap so I then rode with Christian and Sam but we did the orange this time. Big mistake :hurl:, I forgot how quesy I had gotten on the ride last year, next year I won't forget.

Everyone was hungry (but me the quesy one, lol) so we went over the The Land to eat and ride Soarin. Had lunch at Sunshine Season's, I had the cuban vegetable sandwich, Chris had a ham and cheese sandwich, Christian had the chicken dinner thing and the kids had pb+j's meals, can't recall what mil had. After lunch mil stayed with Emily again while we rode Soarin with the boys, we got a baby swap pass so she could ride again with the boys when we were done. We then headed over to The Seas and watched Turtle Talk.

3874369569_c366d65229.jpg

We then headed over to Innoventions, Chris and my mil took the little guys to do the piggy bank thing, Christian played some games and Emily had to go potty so I took her out. On our way back look who we ran into with a very little wait.

First off. Adorable kids. Love the report thus far. Thanks for the driving info, we are debating whether to drive next year or not (we are bringing the entire family with us)...yest this DC area traffic is crazy. I do it every day. It gets old.

Love the Beaches N Creme stuff. Never been there but it looks fabulous.

Can't wait to read more.

We then were heading to over to see HISTA amd ride Journey into Imagination with Figment. On our way we stopped into Club Cool where I tricked Sam and my mil into the Beverly (I know, I'm mean). I made up for it by buying the kids each a Coke slushee where they made their own cups.

So orginally after finishing up FutureWorld I had planned on us going back to the hotel for a rest but dh and I had decided back at Soarin that since we were all in good spirits and doing pretty well that we would stay for the day. We then headed over to Mexico.

Thank you, they are kinda cute, lol. I actually liked the drive down alot and although people were a little perplexed at the time we were leaving, most I guess leave either real early in the morning or real late at night, it really worked out well for us.

Great report...that was kinda mean tricking them into the Beverly...but i love that photo :D (that gives me an idea....)

I tried to get my oldest but he remember it from last year, lol. It's really my mil and ds's fault, they should have known something was up when I had the camera aimed at them, lol.

Day 4 continued

After Mexico we moved on to Norway where we had 5:30 dinner reservations for Akershus. It was only 5pm when we arrived but dh decided to check in and see if we could get in earlier. We only waited 5 minutes or so and our name was called so we got lucky. We went in and had the kids had their picture taken with Belle, I was a little bummed because I had bought a new Belle dress and crown from the Disney Store before we left home just for this dinner but since we never went back to the hotel for a break Emily didn't get to wear it

Belle was showing Emily how to pose

We got seated, had a great server and good food. The pork shank which we all loved last year was not on the menu anymore but we all got great meals. Chris and Christian got pork chops, I got a chicken breast with risotto, kids got hot dogs and my mil got some kind of fish. I just looked over on the menu listed for Akershus both on here and on AllEars and the menu has changed, just a heads up for anyone that may be eating there anytime soon. And the desserts were wonderful, a chocolate cake, rice pudding with strawberries and the best one of all, the schoolbread.

We moved on to China, didn't spend too much time there because we were going to have a whole day just in WS later in the week but we did meet a nice friend who gave Emily (who totally took to this guy) an origami flower.

After China we moved onto Germany for a bit then I decided to stake out a spot for Illuminations, my foot was hurting and my ankle looked like I had a baseball attached to it. I sat with Emily and Christian while mil shopped a bit and Chris and the boys got snacks. Another family with young kids was staking out a spot right behind us so we chatted with them for about an hour, it was nice to just sit and relax. Illuminations was great as usual but Sam didn't cry this year, last year he was in tears and we thought he was upset but he just said that it was so beautiful and he was so happy he was crying, lol.
