Be Aware: Traffic Enforcement

Speeding remains a significant problem on Walt Disney World Resort property and impacts the safety of our Cast Members and Guests. During the past year, Florida Highway Patrol has had an increased presence to help reduce the number of Cast Members, Guests and others who speed while traveling on our property. In addition, the cities of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista, which provide municipal services to the Walt Disney World Resort, have recently signed a services agreement with the Orange County Sheriff's Office to provide an increased law enforcement presence, including traffic enforcement 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Florida Highway Patrol has issued almost 1,000 citations on our property, some as much as $540. For most of us, this would be a huge financial burden. Unfortunately, Cast Members continue to constitute the majority of citations that have been written. A combined speed-control effort -- a partnership between the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol -- will be ongoing. I strongly encourage voluntary compliance of posted speed limits.

In future Eyes & Ears issues, you will see information about the physical and financial risks of speeding. Some of these risks include harm to yourself and others, premium increases in your car insurance and points against your driving record.

The Walt Disney World Resort has more people in a concentrated area than downtown Orlando. Because of this, the risk of accidents is greater, and speeding increases this risk factor. Please pay attention to and comply with posted speed limits. Voluntary compliance of posted speed limits helps create a safe environment for all who work and play at the Walt Disney World Resort, and in turn, enhances the Cast and Guest experience.

Thank you.

You're not the only one who thought "Rob!" when you read this. I myself have been known to "cruise" a bit quickly when entering the property; I'll be more careful from now on.

This is a bigger problem than most people think. With all the Disney transportation plus all of the tourists who don't know where their going it makes it a mess. On my last visit I saw what was left of a car that cut in front of a Disney bus. Not a pretty sight. My guess is that has to happen more than you think. I've been cut off by people. I've been passed like I was standing still.

They need to do something for sure. I would prefer to see something other than normal police cars flying around. I would say that I saw a lot more police when I was there in Dec. On and off stage.

I want a set of "Cast Only" access roads that go from one of the property to the other. This way, I can get to work without having to worry about getting side swipped by everyone who has no freaking clue where they are going all the time.

I wish they would raise some of the speed limit postings.....Like the 45 mph limit on Oceola Parkway coming into DAK. That is just RIDICULOUS and if you do follow the speed limit then people are fllying around you like you are standing still.

I have rarely seen any police presence on the highways inside of wdw, and not much when coming from the airport or driving around the area. Nor have i seen many accidents, but alot of dumb actions by drivers due to not knowing where they going and taking abrupt actions because of this.

I am glad, but I have to remember that for myself. When you exit off 192 towards MK, if you do not speed you practically get ran over by others around you which encourages you to speed to be able to keep up with the flow of traffic. It seems most around us were passing us like we were standing still and we were exceeding the speed limit ourselves.

I saw one - whilst my face was plastered against the front screen of Rob's old car as he threw the anchor out to adjust his speed for the nice officer!

Haha that doesn't mean anything. The first driver's license I was issued (the one I have right now) was issued to me with the Safe Driver on it. I thought maybe it was because I took Driver's Ed, but it turns out all of my friends have it, too. Sorry Rob, hate to burst your bubble.

When you're first issued your license, it will say safe driver because there are no points on it. Renew your license, or get it duplicated after getting a ticket, and it will be taken off.

they have slowed me down before.

I must admit I am not a speeder, but I do tend to get upset with guest who don't know where they are going, so they go slow.

But I can't really be upset with them if they have no clue where they are going, since they are new.
