BAH...

Really, put the Hat in the Hub in front of the Castle? o_O

I hope that was sarcasm on your part. Horrible idea...
I was posing a question.

Both Cinderellas Castle and Mann's (to a lesser architectural degree) have thematical disconnects. The BAH is a huge optical, thematic, and architectural disconnect. The equivalent effect of the BAH on the optical vista anchored by Mann's would be placing the BAH in the center of the Hub at MK. How would the BAH impact the vista of MSUSA?

The Chinese Theater was not the original Icon. That would have been the Earful Tower. I don't understand how anyone can look at the picture of the original view down Hollywood Blvd and think the BAH belongs there. On top of that the Mickey (hidden) that was also desecrated by its presence should throw it over the top.
Both Grauman's and Earful were icons.

See some of The Magical World of Disney specials, they promoted Grauman's and Earful, they just couldn't use Grauman's in advertising. They also couldn't use the Disney-MGM Studios name in advertising.

It was known as the Disney Studios.

I get the point of placing something in front of Cinderella's Castle, or The Tree of Life, or Spaceship Earth ( the big golf ball LOL ). So... if the Chinese theater or the earful tower were supposed to be the icons, then why did they block it? Who knows? So... is BAH the centerpiece of DHS? I guess so for now. Whether we like it or not!

Sadly, I believe the old Hollywood theme is dead.

''the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer—in music, television, movies and theater. '' Queen Meg.

Meaning: '' we ran out of ideas and don't like spending money so we just put any old thing in there and pretend that it fits''
I don't think the park was ever themed to Old Hollywood entirely, it was just Hollywood Blvd, and later Sunset Blvd that were themed to be that way.

Still, those are the best and most memorable aspects of the park, at least to me... If they moved or fully demo'ed BAH, that section of the park would be restored to its former glory!

Then all they need to do is bring back Sorcery in the Sky ;)

EDIT: which of course will never happen, but it's fun to dream!

According to those Travel Chanel Disney specials, the park originally didn't have an icon, so that's why they built BAH in 2001. This is BALONEY!

They built BAH for the 100 years of magic promotion as a "temporary" structure. It's just overstayed it's welcome, and kinda kicked Grauman's and Earful as the park icon unintentionally...

As I've said in previous threads on this subject, I love the Hat and want it to stay where it is. As Lazy so correctly pointed out, Cinderella's Castle doesn't fit the "theme" of Main Street, but would any of you suggest moving it? THAT would be sacrilegious. Imagine walking into MK, coming around the train station, standing by Roy & Minnie's bench and NOT SEEING THAT VIEW. I would cry and I'm getting too old to cry.....

Just take the pin stations and other stuff out underneath it, put in some benches and foliage that don't distract from the Hat, i.e., make them subtle and you have a wonderful place to sit and reflect. Watching the SW Fireworks show explode around the HAT was awesome! And btw, the BEST fireworks we've seen at WDW.

The. Hat. Stays. Period.
I said Cinderella Castle does fit Main Street, USA.

Why not? According to you the Hat is Disney and it could be used for your same suggested purpose of reflection at the Magic Kingdom, a park whose organization at least is drawn directly from the work of Walt Disney.

Since the beginning they have always had a perfect place for it. Right in the Animation Courtyard. If it belongs anywhere, that would be the place. It wouldn't be blocking any view or even be out of theme. There is some reason why they put it there, but perhaps whomever, made that decision has since been committed to the proper institution.

It would just take up a lot of the plaza and still be visible from Sunset Blvd.

Actually, it was originally slated to go out in front of the park entrance, near the lake. That would have been just fine, in my opinion. And if they think it's such a great icon, they can just move the thing out there and restore the original look inside the park.

I always find these discussions about the hat very interesting. Yes, the theatre is nice but is in no way a Disney icon. And yet people hate having something that is absolutely iconic, the hat from Fantasia in DHS. In many threads, like the Avatar and Starbuck's ones plus others, people are always upset about non-Disney things being in the parks. The hat is one of the most important Disney icons. Guess it's my fault for expecting consistency on a Disney board.

Now if the theatre at the end was the Carthay Circle, where Disney's most important film Snow White premiered people might have a case, but it's Mann's.
Put the hat between the parking lot and the front entrance if it is at all able to be moved, which I doubt. Probably built on the cheap to be in place forever.

Have you been paying attention to WDW? They do not put in benches, they take them out to storage and then auction some of them to cast and resellers. A neighbor bought some and put them in his yard under a tree. What an idea a bench and a tree together.

Ok, I know I'm going to sound so ignorant and like such a newbie, but this is a legitimate question: What's with all the hate for the BAH in HS?

Is it because it blocks the GMR? Or do people just genuinely think it's ugly? I wanna know!

Because....THIS is what the park looked like before the Big Blue Turd landed.
hollywoodblvd.jpg

The Chinese Theater is supposed to be the "weenie" of Hollywood Boulevard.

Also.....

It's bad enough Mickey sacrificed an ear for Sunset Boulevard.
But, now he's drunk and wearing a party hat on his nose.

EDIT -- Also...it was supposed to be temporary for the 100 years of Magic celebration.
It has long worn out its welcome. They removed the stupid Spaceship Earth Wand back in 2007. Why is the hat still here?

For me, it's both.
It blocks the majestic GMR with its out-of-place plastic, cartoonish ugliness.

I agree. If they did this, DHS wouldn't even be the first Orlando theme park to have the icon just outside the park gates. It's not uncommon.
