BAH...

Even if you ignore the "appropriate icon" or sightline-blocking discussions, or even if the hat was built as the original icon of the park instead of the Chinese Theater, I would still want it gone. Disney parks are not about recreating giant objects at 1000x the original scale, no matter how well the object "matches" the theme. Disney parks are about creating environments, places that transport you to another place/era, and the entrance to D-MGM in the form of Hollywood Blvd was quite possibly one of the best environments ever created up to that point. Unless you can tell me you'd find an enormous blue hat in 1940s Hollywood, I'm not sure there's a real case for the hat as an appropriate part of the park.

* Before anyone brings up Cinderella Castle, I'd like to point out that the castle is a perfect entrance to Fantasyland, and at least represents a full-scale architectural building. The BAH fits nowhere and isn't believable in any sense of the word.

There is California Crazy...

And Cinderella Castle also works quite well for Main Street, USA as a twist on the typical organization of such streets.

The Chinese Theater was not the original Icon. That would have been the Earful Tower. I don't understand how anyone can look at the picture of the original view down Hollywood Blvd and think the BAH belongs there. On top of that the Mickey (hidden) that was also desecrated by its presence should throw it over the top.

The BAH is bad because it destroys the narrative of DHS as a tribute to Old Hollywood. The only hat in Old Hollywood was this one:

Plus the Sorcerer's Hat just plain looks tacky. Cheap plastic amongst the brick and stucco. :p

As I've said in previous threads on this subject, I love the Hat and want it to stay where it is. As Lazy so correctly pointed out, Cinderella's Castle doesn't fit the "theme" of Main Street, but would any of you suggest moving it? THAT would be sacrilegious. Imagine walking into MK, coming around the train station, standing by Roy & Minnie's bench and NOT SEEING THAT VIEW. I would cry and I'm getting too old to cry.....

Just take the pin stations and other stuff out underneath it, put in some benches and foliage that don't distract from the Hat, i.e., make them subtle and you have a wonderful place to sit and reflect. Watching the SW Fireworks show explode around the HAT was awesome! And btw, the BEST fireworks we've seen at WDW.

The. Hat. Stays. Period.

It was supposed to be " We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was—and always will be"...The hat really takes away from the central theme as you look down the street upon entry. I am not against the hat and it could go somewhere else where it would work better...honestly I think DTD would be the best placement but even just moving it elsewhere within MGM (DHS) would be fine.

I personally see it as kind of a sad commentary on management that where once we looked down the street at an iconic piece of hollywood architecture that was meant to be a pinnacle ride of the park (yes, it needs help these days) and instead we are expected to stare longingly at a gift shop...let that sink in for a minute. It is a gift shop that is the centerpiece of the park now...I can think of no better epitome of the current culture in management than that. Yes, I understand that it is a business and yes, I understand they need to make money but I resent the blatant underlying tone of making a gift shop the centerpiece of the park.

There it is in a nutshell...my $0.02 on the BAH;)

Why not relocate the BAH into the middle of the Hub at MK. How out of place would that be? The BAH needs to be airlifted out to sea and turned into a coral reef

That's why I suggest taking the gift shop aspect out of the Hat and making it what it should be - a place of rest and reflection on the magic that was/is Disney film making and an ode to Walt's favorite and best film.

The view without the Sorcerer's Hat blocking the Chinese Theater is undoubtedly breathtaking. I wish it could be seen in it's entirety at DHS. That being said, I don't think the entrance of DHS is the place for the full 1940s Hollywood art deco theming.

I would keep the Sorcerer's Hat as the icon of DHS, and leave it as the visibly climactic icon as you enter the park. I would put the wonderful art deco building-fronts and Chinese Theater as more of a side street where people can fully enjoy the amazing recreations. I would then put lots of shops and store fronts along the main entrance of DHS that pay infinite tribute to Disney movies and shows throughout the years; where you could essentially find merchandise from EVERY Disney (and Disney-related) movie or show ever made. Having a variety of merchandise to choose from would, in itself, draw people into the park.

I understand that when a park is opened, the full gamut of possibilities is hard to foresee, but I sometimes think Disney just "drops" rides, merchandise, theming, etc. where they don't fit.

Sadly, I believe the old Hollywood theme is dead.

''the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today’s Hollywood has to offer—in music, television, movies and theater. '' Queen Meg.

Meaning: '' we ran out of ideas and don't like spending money so we just put any old thing in there and pretend that it fits''
