Backlot Tour Refurbishment

Does anyone know what kind of changes they will bringing to the Backlot Tour?

Not quite yet.

I say another 5-7 years before that happens. If we do get our own Radiator Springs (which would fix perfectly back behind Pixar Place/Studios since that is a Pixar movie) We'll have to wait until Disneyland's is done. What's the opening date for that...2012?

My guess is that the Backlot tour is just getting spit polished. Some work done on Catastrophe Canyon, new props in the Villans room...maybe a new preshow?!?!

we'll see...

Just isnt the same without The Goldens Girls home. *sigh*
The love for residential street is something that I have never really gotten. People being ticked off about 20k, Horizons, and imagination I get but residential street? I only saw it twice so that might explain my apathy toward the thing but it was just a series of false house fronts. The way some talk about it you would think that it was a magical place where you got to make out with Blanch and Ms. Brady.

The tour didn't really have anything else to offer. At Universal Hollywood, you go through actual facades used in movies as well as other sets...Disney's is just fabricated, like a mock tour of what a studio backlot would look like. What's so exciting about going through a wardrobe warehouse?

I do agree....residential street was the best backdrop for the Osbourne lights but aside from that it was rather ho hum.

Nothing.... which is why I can not see why someone has not taken high explosives to the Backlot tour yet.

i agree. I also agree with watching a bunch of people making outfits like a sweat shop is a borefest. The only thing i can really say i enjoyed about the tour, was 1) the nice breeze the tram made on my face 2) the water tank skit... i got to particiapte in that (i was in the tug boat, sam on the sub) 3) catastrophe canyon.

That about sums it up.

I enjoyed Residential Street being back there, the tour has never been the same since their demolition it really does lack now, when the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights where housed there it was incredible, far far superior to what is currently done.

My mom was obsessed with the Golden Girls house :D

It would be nice to have an updated pre show, Pearl Harbor is so old now, there have been so many more films with incredible special effects since then.

I love the back lot tour! I think seeing all the props actually used in the movies is so awesome.
But as for the pre-show, I agree, it needs updating (especially since I've already been in it, so watching it just doesn't seem that exciting! haha). I suggest a pirates of the carribbean themed one. Now THAT would be awesome!

The wardrobe department is my favorite part of one of my favorite attractions at DHS!
I'm an apparel design major and plan on becoming a costume designer so seeing the work area and some pieces from Disney films is quite exciting! & I'm sure theres many who agree with me.

As for all the hating - what gives?
The Backlot Tour is SO fun! Movies are a huge deal to me, so getting to see the props and hear about behind the scenes info is great. I've seen the preshow a million times and have been in it once and it doesn't bother me that they havn't changed it. It would be cool if they switched things up a bit, but theres nothing bad about it.

If the Backlot Tour is replaced by Radiator Springs I will be severely disappointed. (And I love Cars!)

The Backlot Tour is sort of a meta-attraction now. Think about it. The backlots of movie studios are where facades simulate reality. DHS's backlot is even one step faker, as no movies or shows have been made there since forever. (Ever notice that some of the props in the walkthrough prop warehouse are just leftovers from long-gone Disney attractions?) And even when the place was a working studio, the production facilities had been added pretty much as an afterthought, when Eisner and co. figured people would feel cheated if Disney-MGM was not a real studio.

The Backlot Tour used to be a highlight for me. In fact, I did it twice in one trip back in 1990. I loved seeing the old props and vehicles, and also seeing the windows of animators and other production people (remember when there was a hand-made sign that read "This is Jim Henson's office"?). But today I just cannot get over how wasted that area of the park is, when it could be used for more rides and shows.
